  1. The Flyers do have a lot of offensive weapons, but I think Boston's D should match up well against them, and I'm not convinced you'll need much offense to expose Philly's goaltending. They started three different goaltenders against Buffalo, and it had nothing to do with injuries, just poor play by all three of them at times. I will say Philly seems to play much better after one of their goaltenders gets yanked, but that's not a long term winning strategy in the playoffs.
  2. I think the Bruins should be able to handle the Flyers. I'm a Sabres fan so I watched every game of the Flyers last series. As much as love my Sabres, it was easy to see that the Flyers were the superior team at every position but goaltender. The Sabres were lucky to make the playoffs and that series had no business going 7 games as the Flyers should have been able to win easily in 5, yet the Sabres had the Flyers on the ropes late in game 6. If the Flyers let Buffalo hang around and almost beat them, I don't think they have much of a chance against Boston, which unlike Buffalo actually appears to be a playoff-caliber hockey club.
  3. The bottom line is you're at work, you should be working. I'm not saying I've never taken the occasional unscheduled break, but I realized I had no right to get angry when my boss called me on it either.
  4. I've seen lots of people advocate this approach and every time I wonder how many of them have actually done it or actually would if the opportunity presented itself, and how much of it is just their internet muscles talking. At any rate, it seems like a bad idea that would only escalate the situation.
  5. Right now I'm in the midst of my end of semester crunch when all my big projects are due. I was planning on staying home all day yesterday to work on them, but my cousin called and asked if I wanted to go fishing, and I couldn't resist. I thought some time out on the water might clear my head and help me to focus when I got back, but it didn't work out that way. The whole time I was fishing, I just felt guilty and anxious because I wasn't getting any of my work done. On top of that, the lake was too high to cast from shore effectively because of all the brush, there was a cold wind blowing in our faces the whole time, and we got skunked. It was worse than not being able to go at all IMO.
  6. Perfect. I love having the possibility 100's of strangers touching my food before I eat it.
  7. They (BPS) aren't charging anyone sales tax, the state is. I'm not sure about other states, but in NY if the store has a brick and mortar retail store within the state, they can and will collect sales tax on online orders.
  8. Thanks for the heads up on the Light and Tough, J. I'll keep it in mind as an option if its still there, but I'm still at least a few weeks away from making a purchase as I need to make sure I can pay for my summer classes first. I was leaning toward the crankin' stick myself and most here seem to be confirming this. If do go that route, should I go M or MH for the baits I want to use it with?
  9. Another thing you can do to save line is put old line from one reel onto another reel. That way the used part of the line is at the bottom of the spool, and the good unused part of the line is at the top. I do this with braid. I've never tried with mono or fluoro, but it might not work as well because of the memory of these lines and the tight coils at the bottom of the spool.
  10. I'm looking for a 7' cranking rod for under $100, and was just wondering what everyone has used in this price range. The rod would be paired with a Curado E5 and used for everything from Storm Subwarts and Manns 1 minus to Rapala DT10's. I prefer a full handle for cranking, but a split grip isn't a deal breaker either. I've handled several in stores, including the 7'M BPS crankin' stick, the 7'MM Carrot Stix Wild, and the Field and Stream Tec Spec 7'MM Cranking rod from Dick's. Of these, I liked and have heard good things about the Crankin Stick, The Carrot seemed nice but I've heard mixed reviews, and I haven't heard much about the Tec Spec, which I liked except it seemed like it might be a bit underpowered for what I want. Other rods I've looked at online but haven't had a chance to handle are the American Rodsmiths David Fritts Glass cranking rod and the Team All Star cranking rod. Any input on these or other cranking rods in the price range that I have overlooked is appreciated.

Well, if you don't like the weather in Western New York, stick around. It'll change in a minute.
  12. That may be true, but without looking at the stats, I'd say its probably just because the team that wins more games has a higher probability of winning any individual game. I doubt there's anything special about game 2.
  13. I usually just hit the tips with a lighter for a few seconds.
  14. I wear mine until they are visibly dirty or noticeably smelly, which can be anywhere from 1 wear to 10 or more depending on what I was doing in them. I usually won't wear the same pair multiple days in a row though.
  15. Just curious, did you get this deal at Gander Mountain? I went in there a few weeks ago and they had all of their Avids 25% off. I really wanted to get a 7'MF spinning rod, but I didn't have the funds at the time. When I went back a couple weeks later, they were all gone

It doesn't seem much different to me, other than the fast reply feature and the ability to add subtitles to the thread description, both of which I like. What do you guys who don't like it feel the old format did better?
  17. Well yesterday being nice and sunny and warm here in Western NY I decided to take the canoe out for the first trip of the year. I called my cousin, he came over after work and we headed up to the boat launch on a local creek. We fished for a couple hours before it got dark out, with neither of us catching anything. I did learn some new to me information the hard way though: stick jackets sink. As I was taking it off my rod, it was dangling in the water. I accidentally dropped it, and watched as it slowly slipped beneath the surface while gently drifting away with the current, just out of reach of my outstretched rod tip. I tried dragging it back up with the heaviest, snaggiest lures I own, but no luck.
  18. The one near me has some good stuff. They carry St. Croix rods, mostly Mojos, Premiers, and Triumphs, but last time I was in there they had some Avids as well
  19. A couple years ago a willow tree at my friends cottage fell down into the water next to his dock, and he just left it there in the water figuring it would be good cover for bass, and was still far enough from the dock to get the boat in there. One time I was standing on the dock pitching a texas rigged brush hog at the tree. On my third or fourth cast, my line went over a branch I was trying to get it under about 2 feet above the water. Of course I get a hit as soon as my bait hits the water. I set the hook on a dink so hard that it lifted him right out of the water, and embedded the hook point into the tree branch, so I'm standing there on the dock with a fish nailed to a tree at the end of my line! I ended up having my buddy hold my rod while I went over and climbed out on the tree from the bank to unhook the fish.
  20. They're really easy to turn inside out. Just figure out how high you want to be, and pinch it there. Then push the open end over the part where you're pinching. Works great for the casting models. I haven't tried it on a spinning rod one, but you might have trouble getting it over spinning guides if you use the method because doubling it over makes it tighter.
  21. I don't own any Loomis' and the price is already way too high for me to bid on it, but I'll be following this auction just out of curiosity to see how high it goes. Definitely a nice rod and a great cause.
  22. mine works fine. See? Eye halve a spelling chequer It came with my pea sea It plainly marques four my revue Miss steaks eye kin knot sea. Eye strike a key and type a word And weight four it two say Weather eye am wrong oar write It shows me strait a weigh. As soon as a mist ache is maid It nose bee fore two long And eye can put the error rite Its rare lea ever wrong. Eye have run this poem threw it I am shore your pleased two no Its letter perfect awl the weigh My chequer tolled me sew.
  23. Theoretically, if a rod is perfectly balanced at the center of the reel seat it will still be perfectly balanced with any reel you put on it, no matter how much the reel weighs. Imagine a lever balanced on a fulcrum. adding weight to either side will tip the lever to that side, but if you add the weight directly on top of the fulcrum the lever will stay balanced because the weight distribution is still equal on both sides of the fulcrum. In the real world of fishing this doesn't work out perfectly because not all reels have an equal weight distribution from front to back across the center of the reel foot; however, the closer the rod is to being balanced to begin with, the better it will usually feel with a reel.
  24. Nice work. I made one for my Subaru Outback by drilling holes for the butts in a piece of wood and mounting it to some threaded holes that are in the roof in the back with a couple 8" lengths of all thread rod, but I just have a shoestring that goes across the backseat handles supporting the middle of the rods. I think I'll be replacing that with your bungee cord and egg crate foam contraption. Also, I'm not sure how the Tribute compares in interior length to my Outback, but mine will take 7'rods fine. I don't think I could go any longer though.
