  1. The east will be a four dog fight this year. The Bills are better than anyone is giving them credit for.
  2. What is everybody expecting from their favorite NFL team this year? I'm a Bills fan and although they've been disappointing for a decade, I'm optimistic that this is the year they start to turn things around. Chan Gailey seems to have brought a new winning attitude to the team, and the offense looks vastly improved based on the preseason. I was disappointed with the Spiller pick at first because running back was not an area of need, but he appears to be a game changer and could be the difference in a couple of games this year. The D will probably have a tough time transitioning to the 3-4, but they should improve every week. Although I would love to predict a playoff berth, realistically I think they are still a year away. That said I honestly think that an 8-8 or 9-7 record is a possibility for this team.
  3. A couple years ago, i got my dad a triumph ultralite from the gander in Rochester. He decided he wanted a premier instead, So we took it back to exchange it. Right away they start giving us the "st croix warranty exchanges must be done through the manufacturer" line for a rod that was purchased 3 days before and still had all the tags on it. They finally let us do it when after about 15 minutes of going back and forth, they realized there was nothing wrong with the rod and the only reason we were taking it back was so we could spend more money there :
  4. Does anybody use a non-OEM AC adapter for their laptop? Mine crapped out on me recently (had a short in the wire & burned through the insulation) so I need a new one. My computer is a Toshiba Satellite A105. I went to Toshiba's website and they want $90 for a new one, and the reviews are pretty negative. I went to ebay and there are lots of aftermarket ones available from $10-$15. Will one of these be fine? are there any sellers or manufacturers that are either recommended or that I should steer clear of?
  5. When I was 8 or 9 I threw a zebco spincast combo in the lake when I was casting and it slipped out of my hand. A few months later, my uncle was scuba diving in the same area and he found it. It still worked for a few years after that, but was never quite the same even after being cleaned.
  6. It's a graduation requirement at some.
  7. does anybody know what the estimated driving times are based on when you get driving directions from google maps? Yesterday just for fun I googled the directions from my college apartment to my parents house. The estimated time for the route it gave me was 42 minutes, which seemed about right for that route, but that isn't the way I normally go. When I modified the route to match the roads I actually drive, it gave an estimated time of 1 hour, 5 minutes, when in reality it only takes me half an hour in normal road conditions going the speed limit when I go this way. I was just wondering if anyone knows why there would be such a large discrepancy between the estimate and the actual time it takes or why the estimate for the suggested route is more accurate.
  8. OMG did everyone in their early 40's, late 30's get drunk on that their first time? How many of us stole those things from our old man and ran out behind the shed! Good times, good times...barf barf barf! Do they still make that stuff? Yeah, they still make it. a 30 block costs 13.99 at the Wegmans near my college campus. Whenever we are shopping for a party, I'll throw one in the cart, even though my roommates would rather drink Keystone light for some reason : BTW, I'm only 21, but when I was growing up, dad usually only had one of two kinds of beer in the fridge- Genny Cream and regular Gennesee. Being from Rochester, I guess he likes supporting local businesses lol. By the way, If you are a fan of bock beers, pick up some Genny bock if you can. Its' only available seasonally, and its not the best bock i've ever had, but at 5.99 a 12 pack, its tough to go wrong. You'll be able to recognize it by the green floral-pattern can with the goat on it ;D
  9. A lipless crank with no rattles with a hole thru the middle that supposedly creates turbulence that mimics a baitfish. I think it was called the Ambush Stealth Diver. I remember reading an article about them in In-Fisherman a few years back and bought a couple when I saw them on clearance at Gander Mtn. Never caught a thing on them, and have loaded the boat in the same spot after switching to a different lipless bait on a couple occasions.
  10. I start out with a 5-6 foot leader and replace it once it gets down to 12-18 inches left, but I usually only use a leader when fishing around rocks or in really clear water.
  11. Usually I just turn over rocks and pick them up with my hands. If I need a lot or am in a hurry though, I have a wire mesh basket mounted on a handle that is probably 10-12 feet long. Throwing the basket out and dragging it back along the stream bottom usually will get 5-6 per throw in a good area.
  12. Probably Zima. looks like Molson Canadian and Coors Light to me http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2010/02/26/canadian-hockey-celebrati_n_477665.html#s71099
  13. Genesee Cream Ale
  14. My buddy has a cottage on black lake and I usually try to get up there at least once or twice every year. There's lots of good northern pike and LMB's. I fish the northern end of the lake mostly, since that's where the cottage is. There's plenty of lodging for fisherman, and most of these places offer boat rentals. http://www.blacklakeny.com/
  15. this statement contradicts itself. If there are no absolute truths then saying that there are no absolute truths would be an absolute truth, which disproves the statement that there are no absolute truths. hopefully that isn't even more confusing for you. I know what i mean but it is difficult to articulate.
  16. Sounds like a bunch of mule-larkey :
  17. Why bread milk and eggs? Wouldn't canned goods and other nonperishables be smarter if you are indeed going to be holed up at home for a while? Does everyone make french toast when it snows down there?
  18. Who is everyone rooting for in the AFC/NFC championship games today? In the NFC, I want the Saints for no reason in particular, and I think they will win. In the AFC I am still undecided on who I want to win. I'm a Bills fan so I should be rooting against the Jets at all costs, but I'm finding it hard to hate them this week as I think it would be awesome if they made Indy regret letting the Jets in by pulling their starters in week 16. So I guess I'm (reluctantly) rooting for the Jets, but I don't think they can beat Indy's A team at home.
  19. the problem with primitive firearms is after 50 yards or so you have no idea where the round will hit. ...which makes the hunt more challenging. I just don't understand why there are special muzzleloader seasons when the effective range of modern muzzleloaders is just as good as, if not better than, the rifled barrel 12 ga. slug guns used in the regular season (no rifles allowed in my area of NY).
  20. I don't get it. I thought the point of muzzleloaders was that they are "primitive firearms"? :-?
  21. What he said, but substitute Bills for Browns.
  22. Children of the Corn "I live in the weak and the wounded, Doc."
  23. my brother made a striker for a turkey call out of a piece of a broken rod once.
  24. You're assuming the employees stocked them on the wrong rack or mispriced them. Far more often, I believe, knucklehead shoppers grab those high dollar baits off the shelf, tote them around while considering whether or not to purchase them and then ultimately decide not to. Rather than return them to their high-dollar rack, they ditch them in the closest spot: the discount box. I agree that this happens a lot more than it should, but there are usually ways to tell when this is the case. There will either be an orange sticker on all the true clearance merchandise and a few baits without them, or something just doesn't fit in with everything else, for example 4 crankbaits in a bin with 200 spinnerbaits and a big sign saying "brand x spinnerbaits 50% off." The situation I am talking about happens more rarely, but I have seen it. In an aisle there will be several rows of an item on hooks which are labeled far below what I know to be retail for that item, so I grab a few thinking they are on sale, only to have them ring up full price. This is when I tell the person working the register the price that it was advertised for on the rack, and if need be show them where I got the item. If it turns out the item was stocked incorrectly, sometimes they honor the price and sometimes they don't like RW said. If they don't and I don't want to pay retail, I say thanks anyway and leave it there. If they do honor it though, I have no problem taking advantage of the deal.
  25. That was tough to watch, but at least they were competitive, which is more than I expected. While I agree that had McKelvin taken a knee the Bills would have won, I can't say I blame him for trying to make something happen. He probably should have gone down once he was hit instead of trying to drag 3 tacklers to get an extra three yards though. Despite the tough loss at the end, I did see a lot of things from the Bills that give me more hope for the season than I had going into this game.
