Gander Mountain Fishing Rods
I originally posted this in my thread about a crankbait rod for around $50, but haven't gotten any answers, so I'll try here. Has anyone used the Gander Advantage crankbait rod? Also, does anyone know what this rod is made of? the rod says e glass but the tags say IM6. So is it a glass rod with the same tags as the non cranking advantage rods, or is it a glass/graphite composite?

T.O. cut by the Cowboys
We got a few in Green Bay as well. But WOWI didn't see this one coming. TO to the Buffalo Bills. Let the destruction of the Bills begin. There has to be something to destroy... As a lifelong Bills fan it pains me to say it, but atx is right. The Bills haven't needed T.O. to miss the playoffs for the past 10 years. I don't foresee this changing anything.

gear ratio preference for future reel
With the exception of my crankbait reel, all of my baitcasters are 6.3:1. If you look, you can find 6.3:1 reels that are just as fast in inches per turn as most 7:1 reels are. This way you get the extra speed without any loss of power. Best of both worlds IMO.

crankbait rod around $50
Today I was in Gander Mtn and saw their advantage series crankbait rod. It seemed pretty light and had the action I was looking for. Best part is it was only $30. Based on my limited in store experience with both, I like it just as much as the BPS crankin stick, maybe even more. Has anybody used this rod? I think for the price this will be the way to go unless everyone has terrible things to say about it. I am a little confused about the construction of this rod. The normal GM advantages are IM6 blanks. The crankbait version has E glass printed on the rod, but the tags say advantage IM6. I'm not sure if this means the rod is a graphite/glass composite, or if it is an all glass rod, but they just use the same tags for it as the other advantage rod. If anyone can tell me anything about the materials in this rod that would be appreciated as well.

Ipods? Yes or no?
No for me if I am alone. sometimes if I am out with a few friends we will have a radio on the boat playing music. Often when this is the case it is a hot summer day with bluebird skies and the fishing trip quickly turns into a swimming trip. Other times we are focused on fishing only and have no music.

Would you eat a pot bellied female bass full of eggs in the spring?
Why? As long as its a legal fish I see nothing wrong with keeping and eating it if thats what the person chooses to do If you answered, "Yes, " then the second half of the question doesn't apply to you, and there is no need to answer the thread. Read th initial post again, and you'll see what the OP is getting at. I never said anything about whether it was right or wrong for you to keep and eat bass, as you said, its legal. Legal issues and moral issues are two different things. The assumption is, that if your answer to the title is, "Yes, " then there is no need to explain bed fishing, since you'll keep and eat those as well. As its legal. The OP is referring to a bigger moral question, and possibly trolling in the meantime. Gotcha. I understood the point you were trying to make, but this particular part of your post that I was questioning seemed as though you were making a moral judgment and stating it as a universal truth the first time I read it.

St Croix Mojo Bass thoughts
I just got my MBC70MHF today. This is my first split grip rod. At first glance, the handle seemed shorter than that on another 7' MH rod that I have, but it was actually about an inch longer when I compared them side by side. Must be some sort of visual trick with the split grip. The split handle fits much more nicely under my arm than a full handle does. I kind of see what you mean by the grip being too short, but I also disagree. While part of my hand does rest on the blank behind the handle when holding the rod as if I were casting, the transition is smooth and comfortable. As noted, it is a non issue when palming the reel. So far I am impressed with this rod. Now I just have to wait until the ice melts and I can go fishing to see what it really can do.

Help!!! frozen rods and reels
Rods should be fine. Reels probably should be too, but if you are really worried about it open them up and see if there is any moisture inside. If there is clean and re lube.

Need help deciding on what model of rod (Mojo)

crankbait rod around $50
I am looking for a crankbait rod in the $50 range to use with shallow-medium divers, jerkbaits, and topwaters. for power and length, I was thinking medium power 6'6" would be a good all around for what I want to use with it. What rods in the price range do you recommend? A few I have considered are: Lightning rod shock (haven't handled one yet) BPS crankin stick (really liked it when I handled it in store, the frontrunner at the time. Just waiting for it to go on sale) Ugly Stick lite ( heard these were good crankin rods for the money, but I liked it less than the original ugly stick I am currently using when I handled it in the store) If anyone has any feedback on these rods, or other suggestions in the price range, it would be appreciated. I plan on pairing it with a curado E5.

Need help deciding on what model of rod (Mojo)
I have a MBC70MHF on the way that should be here on Thursday according to ups. I plan to use it as a jig, plastic, and frog rod. I'll let you know my initial thoughts when it arrives, although I probably won't be fishing it for another month at least. I would imagine this rod would do what you want it for though. What reel are you planning on using?

When you have a baitcasting reel do you?
I cast with the rod in my right hand and reel with my right hand. For those who cast right and reel left and say you don't have to switch hands that way, how do you hold your rod/reel during the retrieve? Reason I ask is that I do not hold my rod the same way when I cast as I do during the retrieve. With a right handed crank reel I cast right, then transfer the rod and reel to my left hand for palming. If I was using a left reel, I would cast right, then change hands to my left so I could reposition my right hand to palm the reel. So basically with a right reel I am only switching once, but with a left reel I would be switching twice.

Great Sacandaga Lake Nav maps
Does anyone know where I can get some good navigation maps for this lake? My grandparents live on this lake and I usually go up at least once a year. I already know a few spots, but would like to find some others. Up there I fish out of v hull with no electronics so a good map would be very helpful. I am planning on going up in a couple weeks while I am on spring break and would like to be able to go for a walk on the ice and mark structure that I find that is normally covered during spring and summer when the water is higher.

Pet peave's that shouldn't be
I was once stuck behind someone who stopped before the plates in the road that trigger the light. Held up traffic for at least 5 minutes before they finally decided to inch up a bit, and the light changed within 10 seconds. :

Pflueger Asaro vs. Daiwa Black Widow II
I have a team daiwa advantage 150H, which is basically the same as the black widow II but without the fancy paint job, and one less bearing. It is a solid reel for the money. I haven't used the asaro so I can't make a comparison, but i can recommend the daiwa.

Dumb Purchases
I'm surprised that so many people are mentioning the storm swimbaits. The 3 and 4 inch swim shads in the pearl and shad colors are some of my best producers. I will admit that I bought a pack of the 5 inchers in perch that I haven't caught anything on so far, but I remain optimistic that they will produce some bigguns in the right situation. My dumbest tackle purchase was probably when I was 12 or so, and first started getting into bass fishing somewhat seriously. I would read articles in bassmaster and other magazines and get convinced that i needed a separate combo for every lure in my box. Being 12, i didn't have a lot of money, but I spent my birthday money on 4 combos from kmart for about $20 each. I actually still use and like the ultralight i got back then, and my girlfriend, who is new to fishing, uses the zebco 33 i bought (when the magazines talked about baitcasting, i thought it meant the same as spincasting, it was a couple years later that i realized the difference). But other than those two things, all the other stuff got upgraded within a year or two when I had a little more money to work with and realized quality>quantity. These relics of my fishing past now collect dust in the corner of my bedroom.
