  1. Thanks for all the suggestions. Since I plan on going to grad school, I'm pretty sure they will be looking at my transcript to see what kind of grades I have. I do well in most of my classes and have a 3.22 GPA right now. I go to class and pay attention, study when I feel like I need to, and do well on tests. My problem is only with one class, and only with work assigned outside of class (my term paper). I hate to admit it because it makes me sound like an arrogant *****, but the best way to describe why I am having trouble buckling down and getting my work done for this class is because after taking more advanced classes in this subject area, I feel as though this class, which should be my easiest (people in my major usually take it as a second semester freshman or first semester sophomore. I am a 2nd semester junior and have enough credits to graduate a semester early), is beneath me. As a result I find it hard to take seriously even though it is a class within my major and is directly related to the field I wish to go into. I guess I just need to get over myself and write the paper. I would just much rather do work for my other classes which I find interesting and challenging, even though it is due much later in the semester.
  2. I am in my junior year of college, and I am having problems staying motivated in one of my classes. All of the classes I am taking are upper level classes, except one. I took this one class because I figured it would be an easy A and provide a break from my more difficult coursework. This plan backfired because I find this class boring and difficult to take seriously compared to my more challenging classes, and I am falling behind as a result. Does anyone who has found themselves in a similar situation have any tips or ideas on how I can become more motivated to do my work for this class?
  3. Like I said, I was surprised when I heard this, and the only reason I believed it at all was because my dad and the friend he heard it from are not they type who have nothing better to do in life than make stuff up, as you put it. Thanks for confirming that they are not closing.
  4. Today while I was home from college for Easter I heard from my dad that the Gander Mtn in Henrietta was closing. He heard this from a friend of his and I was wondering if anyone else had heard this? Whenever I went over the winter it seemed like they had less and less stuff in the store. I thought that maybe they were getting ready to close, but I never heard anything about it and when I was in there last a few weeks ago they had redone their fishing department and seemed to have lots of new stuff, so if this is true I am a little surprised.
  5. X2. Don't serial killers start off abusing/killing animals? In young children, this can be a warning sign for antisocial personality disorder, but every kid who burns ants with a magnifying glass does not develop APD, and everyone with APD is not a serial killer, so it is difficult to make broad generalizations. I don't know much about the correlation between animal abuse and the likelihood of becoming a serial killer in adults, but I would guess that while it is possible they are related, every animal abuser is not a serial killer and every serial killer is not a current or former animal abuser.
  6. curado E5 6' M Ugly Stik 12# triple fish camo escent I am looking to upgrade the rod, something about a curado on an ugly stik just doesn't seem right ;D
  7. I agree with you about it being less dangerous, but it does not surprise me at all that alcohol is legal and pot isn't. The government wants their cut of everything. Alcohol is legal because it can be taxed. They could try to legalize and tax marijuana, but it would probably not be very effective because it is relatively easy to grow your own, compared to a home brewing or distilling operation. So what do they do to get their cut? Keep it illegal and then fine those who are caught using/ possessing it. Back on the original topic, I don't see anything wrong with enjoying a drink or two out on the water if the person is of legal drinking age and makes sure they regulate their consumption so they will not become impaired. Personally I would rather not take the risk of having anything at all, especially if I am the one driving the boat..
  8. The original post specifically asked about putting righty gears into a lefty reel, that's why I thought some clarification was necessary.
  9. Depends on the reel, you can change the gear ratio in the Citica and Curado. But you can't put the righty Curado gears into a lefty Citica, and I don't think you can with any other reel either.
  10. If you plan on fishing topwaters, stay away from flouro. It sinks and will impair the action of topwater baits. For an all around line, you can't go wrong with 12# mono IMO.
  11. Bobby, you say that fish can't detect oils because they don't have chemo receptors for them, since oils aren't found in their natural environment. What about fats present in the food they eat? Fats are oils. Can fish taste and smell these? You also mentioned that crawfish scents don't have any food value. True or not, I fail to see how that would automatically make it undesirable to fish. There are many recreational drugs and drugs of abuse that have no food value and are in many cases extremely maladaptive, but people continue to use them because they stimulate reward pathways in the brain and make the user feel good. Isn't it possible that some chemical compounds have similar drug effects on fish? I'm not saying that scents are crack for bass, just pointing out the possibility that bass may be motivated by factors other than food value.
  12. Did it only happen when the line was tangled with the hooks? If so it is normal.
  13. Here is an interesting article about fat raps. If you read the comments section it talks about how their sales never went down. They were basically cut to make room for new baits in the lineup. http://tackletog.com/battisti/2009/03/21/what-were-they-thinking/#comments
  14. Mine is going on its fourth season and mechanically its as good as the day I bought it. With proper maintenance this reel should last you a long time.
  15. I thought so too, especially when you said they were 5+. I just figured it was because I was comparing them to the one in your avatar though. How big was she?
  16. which model number advantage is it? If it is a 150H, IMO $70 is a bit much for a used one. I have one, it is the reel I learned B/C on. It is a good reel and has treated me well, but I think $70 used is a bit much for a reel that retailed new for $100, JMO. (I might be biased because I got a great deal on mine, $25 new.) If it is the 153HST, it is probably a good deal. I have not used this reel but it has some upgrades over the 150H that would probably make it worth the extra $
  17. I always thought you were supposed to hit the mesh behind the goalie ;D Lacrosse is a great sport. when I was in 8th grade my school got a lacrosse program, we started with modified and built from there. My junior year of high school was our first year with a varsity team. I played defense and I loved it. This past winter we got together for an Alumni game and had a blast, it was great to put the pads back on and get in a game with the guys. I hadn't played in so long that it took me a while to readjust to how fast the game really is. Dmac-I went to Churchville-Chili. I remember playing a game against Irondequiot my senior year. We came out fast and had a three goal lead at the end of the first quarter, but they dominated us the rest of the game. I remember at the end of the game feeling like they were just toying with us that first quarter lol.
  18. Thanks a lot. I downloaded the Great Sacandaga map, it looks like it should be helpful for planning, keeping track of what I do, and entering rough waypoints like you said, which is also what I wanted it for. I noticed one pretty significant inaccuracy in the map of the surrounding area, but I don't need it to find my way around town so as long as the actual lake is correct it should be fine. I just hope the mistake was an anomaly and not indicative of the overall quality of the map of the actual lake, lol.
  19. Thanks. I just got back from there this weekend, The ice was starting to break up and was too dangerous to walk on so I couldn't explore the lake bottom as much as I would have liked. I will have to look into those Sportsman's Connection books. I have actually thought about getting one in the past, but it seems expensive considering the only lake I fish in the CSE Adirondacks volume is Great Sacandaga, and usually only 1-2 times a year. How helpful are the volumes you do have?
  20. Do they have powell rods also? I don't think so, at least I didn't see any when I was in there last Friday. Their selection of carrots was pretty limited, they had mostly spinning rods from what I saw.
  21. Thanks for the information. I am shore bound, so I don't need ramps. Hopefully I will be able to make it over thee this weekend for a few hours for the first trip of the year.
  22. The biggest of the big are found in HUGE concentrations in springtime in VERY shallow water. The spawning ritual is basically several males corner a female, and smash into her, forcing the eggs out to be fertilized. it creates almost a geyser like commotion that can be heard across the lake. Very easy to spot them, nothing at all like trophy buck hunting. Thanks for the information. I looked up some videos of the carp spawn on youtube, it looks pretty cool. I can definitely see how it would make for some easy pickings for bowfishers though.
  23. Does anyone know if there is still ice on Conesus?
  24. I felt it was slightly tip heavy when I first got it, but it balanced nicely when I put a reel on it.
