Boyesen dual stage reeds
Just went up today to their factory and bought a set for my 60/45 jet. I needed to replace mine and they are slightly less expensive than the factory ones. My originals were 15yrs old before showing wear. I know the fiber ones won't (most likely) last as long. I am heading up to the lake in the very early am tomorrow. I will let you know.... I was suffering from hard starts and loading bad when coming out of no wake zones. Originals were def. bad, you could see alot of light under them and .020" feeler would darn near fall through them.

Jet Boat RPM's
The jet units are sized to load the engines down to their max rpm. I also have a 60/40 jet (merc) and I see 5100-200 rpm at WOT. GPS speed is 25 normally and 30 if light and water is glass. Running 6000 sounds a little high. It sounds like you need to do a little maintenance on the impeller and sleeve. Here is a small toturial directly from the manufactuer. I did this to mine when I bought it (used) and it was like night and day. Also the the clearance between the sleeve and impeller needs to be tight, really close to 1/32". There are shim washers under the nut and under the impeller. Remove shim from under the impeller and it will sit deeper into the sleeve reducing clearance. Shims that were removed from under the impeller can be placed under the nut. If you have never had it apart, buy a new nut, as it is brass. Anything else please feel free to PM me. http://www.outboardjets.com/faqs.php look at number 19 and follow the instructions.

Raystown Lake, PA 4/23/2010
Because of work I didn't get out to the lake until 2pm. Water temp was 64 at the james creek and 60.1 out in the main lake. What a day got four to the boat with the largest a 3lb 3oz. smallmouth. One nailed a yozuri pin minnow and the other three slammed a spook. I would have never thought of using topwater this time of year without reading about it!!!

Fishers of Men, Legacy open ( I think that was the name)4/10/2010
First tournament that I have fished and what a wonderful bunch of people. The people operating/running the tournament, wow, what can I say what great people! I will keep my eye out if they have another open tournament in the area. Water was 60, wind was, well....alot. My partner and I zeroed but what a time. Partner won the rod that was raffled so it wasn't a wash. If I can find more tournaments like this one I will have a hard time staying home. Thank you Jamie and all who were there.

small child in boat ?
I have had my daughter which is 2 1/2 now out three times since she was born. Once @ 6mnths Next @ 7mnths Last time at 1.5 yrs. Wife was with me every time and she took care of her. PFD always. Most times out were really just boat trips with some fishing and not the other way around. One good thing though she is copying everything I do, so should be easy to get her into fishing. I hope my boy follows, he is only 6 mnths right now.

Susky, goldsboro
Well my friend and I braved the cold this morning (28F) and went up to the susquehanna to try our luck and just get out. Well darn near froze to death while at speed. Neither of us really know the area so we mostly ran around looking for "fishy" stuff. Found some good areas to try once the water temp comes up a little. It water temp was 38F all the way until 11:30am when we decided the truck was a good place to be. I had one strike and it was very light bump and of course I missed it. No fish but it was still a better day than working.

Abu Silver Max reel
Thanks for the info. That is exactly what I wanted to know. I wasn't sure if the Mag side was a twist off. That helps a heck of alot. I could see that there were screws that I couldn't get to and I new everything had to start on that side just couldn't figure out how to get that cover off. I feel stupid now, all of my other reels the sides twist off, duh! All I was hoping to do was a quick clean and re lube. I know it isn't a high end reel by any stretch of the imagination, just figured it should cast better than it does. As I said earlier I bought it used for a very low price and used it for a year as is.

Abu Silver Max reel
I figured that this is as good a place any to post this. I would love to tear my reel apart and clean and lube it but can't for the life of me figure out how to get the covers off. I bought this reel used without paperwork so I don't have a schematic either. I looked at all the schematics on their website and it isn't listed. Just a quick "how to" is all I need. Thank you in advance Mike

Do You Drink While on the Water?
I do not drink alcohol while fishing. I do not allow others to drink alcohol while in my boat. Zero tolerance. I am out to fish and nothing else when I am in my boat. I like to look at the scenery and just bask in the calm (even if it stormy).

Smith Mountain Lake in May
I am used to fishing around the Jetfleas and pleasure boaters. I fish Raystown lake in PA primarily, full of them. Thanks for all the info. I will doing more concentrating on parts of the lake instead of driving around. I only have a Mod V with a 60hp jet on it. 30mph tops and alot of fuel burning to do it.

Smith Mountain Lake in May
Hello everyone, My wife and I are planning a fishing trip this May to smith mountain lake. We have never been there and only reason we are going is I saw it on the bassmasters website. It is within driving distance for me at approx 450 miles. Is there anyone familiar with the lake at this time of year. I am guessing that it will be pre to in spawn time for the area. I figured lizards and jig'n'pig will prob rule. Any info will be welcomed and appreciated. Thank you, Mike

Your Personal Best LMB or SMB?
Biggest smallmouth was last march on the juniata around Newton Hamilton. 4.5lb on a smoke 3in gitzit. Funny thing was it was about 25yds away from the ramp where i hooked her. Biggest largemouth was last yr in Late april at Raystown lake. 25 feet of water with drowned wood on bottom, DT16 in bluegill. That one was about 4lb. I think it was very respectable considering the lake.

Outboard jet
You can buy just a lower unit. It is suggested that you buy water pump and drive shaft for each, then it is just a matter of unbolting one and installing the other. There is, if I remember correctly about mine, 12 bolts and nuts that will remove the lower jet drive. I had mine apart last year to replace water pump. Also, make sure that at least once a year you remove the jet impeller and sharpen the leading edges. Their website has the instructions on how to do it. Huge difference in performance if you let them get blunted. If there isn't a dealer close to you they will sell direct. They are very good people to deal with. I have called and ordered parts from them without trouble. By the way all of the lower jet drives on outboards are made by Outboard Jet of california.

Boating Etiquette?
It is amazing the velocity you can acheive with a 9 foot slow surf rod with a 3/8 oz. little cleo while steelhead fishing.

ethenol free gas brands
Yep same here in central PA, Gulf is ethanol free. What a difference in mileage in the road vehicles.

Boating Etiquette?
Hotrod You have to be talking about Raytown!! I fish it almost every week at least once. I have found that most of the striper fisherman appreciate if you stay a decent distance from them and I do not come off plane unless I am within 100ft. With even some bass fisherman not knowing the rules of the road on that lake it is just as bad. Then jetfleas and other assorted dumb@$$ it is a very difficult lake to fish in the summer and weekends. This time of year though it is rather pleasant, no skiers just fisherman with an occasional pleasure boater.

tunnel hull or modified v? Anyone own a riverpro?
I have a mod v without a tunnel and can run 6in of water. Haven't done it much but I know I can. One thing that most true riverboats take into acount is how they float at drift. You want the boat to sit almost level so the motor isn't the lowest point. This is why most custom river boats have their fuel tanks and batteries under the front deck to compensate for the motor. If you do get a mod v with a tunnel do some research with Outboard Jet, they make the jet part of the outboards, and you will see that there are very specific dimensions and charateristics that will make or break jet operation.

Pinchot lake on Friday
Had today, Monday, off decided to get up early and head to pinchot again. Didn't do well again, only caught one. Did however learn some wonderfull intell from a really great guy at Hawg Heads Bait. Great guy, willing to give some of his hotspots and the danger areas.

Pinchot lake on Friday
I went out in the evening and didn't do great but ran into a couple of fellas that gave me some tips on the lake. I tried them but didn't do any good with the info . However they did say that the bass were busting shad now and then so I tied on my bluegill (only color I have)tru-tungsten mini swimbait. A couple casts a huge boil and I have a very nice bass on that I lost the gunnel. Had a few more strikes on it and landed on 12in. bass. I was going to post the bait on here for sale, never even had a look at it anywhere. By the way if those two fellows are on here thank you for the information. Mike.

pro and con of jet motor
I do have a Jet outboard on a modV and I love it on shallow rivers like the juniata and susky. I also take it on lakes. I like the best of both worlds even though long runs on the lakes are a pain the dupa. Fuel consumption is very high, there is on average 30% reduction of effeciency between prop and jet. As was said earlier my no wake speed just so I can maintain some reasonable control on lakes, the motor is turning 2000-3000rpm. Also high speed manuvuers will make you wet your pants. It will turn in but too much and you will skip like a rock since you do not have a skeg in the water and don't cut the throttle in hopes of saving yourself. (last statement, don't ask)There is no trolling with one either that I can see. As for running skinny water.....it is all in the size of your jewels!! I for a fact know that I can, at full plane, naviagate 6 in. of water. However, I will no way in hell try it unless it is the only way out of somewhere. No brakes, can't turn as well to me without knowing a body of water like the back of my hand i wouldn't do it. It comes down to priority. What do you want to do most? I run rivers mostly and can not afford two boats so I run what I have. Sorry this is long, Mike
