  1. only thing i see is that i like to use a heavy powered , moderate fast tipped , 7' or longer rod for frogs , plus a faster reel (7.1:1 ) to get them moving fast over the slop !! other than that , you got the bases covered !!!! good collection
  2. seems that link doesn't work .... :-?
  3. i have never done big hook sets , probably cause i fish braid most all the time , except for big swimbaits , anyhow i have always swept the rod and when i feel the rod load i know it's on there , i just reel em' in . i don't mind if one or two fish come off cause of my power fishing methods , it just makes me anticipate the next bite !!!! ;D
  4. x2 on every thing he said (bigrickrolled) !! your medium heavy is good for light cover pitching but for punching mats , i would suggest you get a heavy powered , fast action rod . the 7'6'' rod you have will suffice but if you flip and punch mats alot , you might make an up grade to the previously mentioned rod . as for reels , you want to get a 7.1:1 reel , a 6.2 or 6.4 :1 reel will suffice but is not optimal . i guess like everything , you can make do with what you got and it will get the job done just with not the most efficiency !!!
  5. the post above is the best plan , the silver max and black max are okay reels but you would be sorry you didn't wait and get up a little more money to get the revo s . that reel is a very good one ( revo s ) , if you buy the silver max and use it alot it will not hold up over the long run. get the revo s , you will make a good choice !!!
  6. you posted about these lures on the 22nd , i guess no one responded yet , give it time and people will if they have used them before or if you do get some , post a review about them after you have fished them for awhile
  7. i have been on this forum for a little while now but i most always don't go to this section , that has changed today !!!! BIG M you paint some nice baits , very nice . i guess now i gotta think about getting some cranks custom painted by you one of these days ;D ;D
  8. i also love the color scheme on the first bait in second picture !!!! i don't fish for smallies , but in a clear lake like the one i fish cranks at , i KNOW the bass would be all over that one !!! good job !!!
  9. who is it made by , got a pic of it or link to it ?? :-?
  10. what # test line are you using with those baits and is that what you keep spooled on the toro ???
  11. nice concept , just wondering how their hooks are ?! i use owner hooks for everything but catfish , crappie , bluegills . all my bass stuff has owner hooks , just tried and true product that is second to none . so tryin' a new product when i already have something that works so great it is hard to even give consideration to something new .... anyhow , i imagine that they will work good , tho i never had a problem with fish leveraging out treble hooks , i just don't give the fish time to work against me , i just reel them in as fast as possible , no ''playing the fish'' for me . i guess lite tackle guys would appreciate this concept better , i'm just a power fisher
  12. Hmm... It's pretty hard to identify a problem with a reel that has never been used. If there is a problem, exchange should not be an issue, but I suspect the reel is just fine. Well, other than being an Abbadabbdo! : don't you use a REVO STX ??? ;D ;D
  13. another rod you should check out is the DOBYNS 795MLSB, this rod really excells at throwing small swimbaits and can handle medium ones also. if the handle is too long for you , get the DOBYNS 795SBMT . you will really love this rod , in my opinion , WAY better than the G.LOOMIS rod you were thinking of
  14. what does that have to do with ANYTHING !!!! that is a lame question ............
  15. yeah , that's the reel . when your throwing big swimbaits , you really take a beating throwing all that weight cast after cast so most people want the least weight in their gear . for instance , i have two swimbait setups , one is rated for 2-6 oz. lures/baits and that rod weighs approx. 5-5.5 ozs. it's a 7' 11'' rod as is my other swimbait rod that is rated for 3-8 z. lures/baits . that rod weighs about 6.25 oz. the 2-6 oz. i have a revo sx on it , the 3-8 i have a revo toro on it . the toro weighs 10.3 ozs. ,the pluton weighs 12.75 ozs. that 2.5 ozs. is quite a difference !! anyhow , if those are the baits you are only gonna throw , you don't even need a ''swimbait set-up'' , you can throw those baits on a standard heavy powered rod or a flipping rod and any low profile bait caster . you can use 12-17 lb test line for all of the baits you mentioned . a round reel or larger sized low profile reel ( shimano curado/ revo toro ) is needed because of higher test line (20,25 and 30 lb. test ) so my advice is get a nice flipping rod and put your favorite low-pro reel on there and you are set .....
  16. caught one the night before last that could of been his twin , wish i had my camera , seriously it looked just like that one !!!!
  17. i was just wondering why you would want to use such a big , heavy reel like the pluton ??? :-?
  18. i would suggest that if your set on a G.LOOMIS , get the 955 7'11'' medium heavy . that way you can throw a wider range of baits . btw , that pluton is a tank !! i would suggest a shimano calcutta or cardiff , a diawa luna is also a good choice . i , myself use a REVO TORO 51 , i love this reel ( i prefer low profile reels )
  19. i know where i'm going to get my jigs !!! good looking out by posting this , much appreciated
  20. i have a 7' XH Carrot stix (LTX) and i use it for flipping and punching and it works great and is super light which i think is VERY important for doing alot of flipping all day
  21. i also think that the more people use longer rods the more they will start converting over to them . i use my med.heavy swimbait rod for deep diving cranks and just love it !!! btw , the rod is 7' 10'' ...........
  22. i must say that the picture / post BigRickRolled posted was hilarious !!!! funniest post of the year in my opinion ;D ;D ;D
  23. been thinking of getting some to fish for crappie in a lake i just started fishing regularly . do they really suspend , and do they track straight when reeled fast ???
  24. this is directed to Matt , but on subect/topic , i was fishing at dixon lake in trout cove (lake in san diego,ca.) while fishing from the bank i kicked a ball of slop on the ground and it had 2-3 tadpoles in it . i grabbed 1 and threw it on a octopus hook and cast it out about 5' and had atleast 5 bass rush it !!! they were between a 6'' lil dink to 2-3 lbs. , i was tryin to catch one of the 2-3 lbs. when that lil tiny dink got his mouth around it too fast for me to pull it away , anyhow , i wish i had a bunch of those tadpoles !!! the bass were fighting over them . later that night i was looking up on the internet where to get some but they are too expensive !! > so anyhow , i am 110% convinced that bass love to eat frogs .... btw , that little super dink did eat that tadpole , yes swallowed it !!!!
  25. hilarious !!!!! anyhow , i seen them at BPS awhile ago , they don't look realistic at all , but you never know . the 22nd Century Triple Trout doesn't look real either and that bait flat out catches bass !! i guess i'm leery of bps products that are not exact duplicates of others , know what i'm saying !!! but it does kinda resembles ''STRIKE PRO'' swimbaits and i am not at all interested in them , just my opinion : .....
