  1. Thats cool! We just say Lookin fer number 1..... Lookin fer number 2.... and so on.... Helps keep count.....
  2. My partner and I used to fish a small lake that had Duck blinds and the biggest bass in the lake lived in them... So we cut off about 3 ft on a couple rods so we could lay down on the boat and fish the inside.... Caught alot of 3 to 5 lbrs this way... [glb]Life Member 420 Club [/glb]
  3. Loc-Tite @ Wal-Mart has a brush inside it....I use it for everything... Jig Trailers Trick worms Flukes I use 4" ring worms in the illinois river and I ran out of Black with white tail in a tourney... But I had black with blue tail and I had 1" white twisters.... So I cut off the blue tails and glued on the white twisters....Super Glue Is Awesome stuff... Gashes in my hands from a big ole northern Who needs stitches when ya got Superglue...LOL
  4. Depends on the type of weeds and what the fish want....If they won't look up to hit a frog or surface type bait then I put a heavy Jig inside and yo yo it....
  5. You chose a great thing! Bass fishing that is.... Keep it simple.... This forum has a wealth of bass knowledge to use..Use it! Love It! Live It! LOL
  6. Yes sharpen the hook...I use a dremel and take the hook point down in diameter a little.... I like to use the White 4" uncle josh Bass strip as a trailer....Iv'e had to resort to this lure when the Bass were blowing a rat out of the water and not getting the hook ups... This lure will literally fall in thier mouths when working over and through weeds.... Heavy Rod and Heavy line is a must....Set the hook hard....
  7. Wow what a thought! I met most of the old timers at the Superstars tourney in peoia il.. I was a Rig driver...Took them from the civic center launched them and then went back and got them... David Fritts was very conceded and had no time for a regular person.... Kevin Van Dam was nice to me but was fighting with his old lady....LOL Hank Parker was a great guy... Denny Brauer was an ***..He sat in the back seat... Larry Nixon was cool... Ken Cook was very nice also.... Jimmy Houston was the nicest person you could ever meet... But the person I would like to share a boat with would be....Shaw Grigsby What a guy....He invited me and my girlfriend up to meet his wife and talk in his motel room.... When it was all over he cut off all his lures and handed them to me, and said here take these I told him no but he insisted...What a great guy... A Jig $23000.00 spinner bait....Stanley Wedge Can of Bang...
  8. If I'm fun fishing I will tell all...Lure, cover, even location....And have given a lure to a newcomer... If I'm out there in a tourney thats a whole diff story...I'm there to win...If its a state championship where I have a Team of guys...I'll tell everything that they need to get the job done....
  9. As you pitch and your Jig is nearing the landing zone raise your rod slightly to alow a little more line to come of as it enters the water click it....Let your rod tip fall as it sinks ....I really don't think the physical heat of your Jig has an effect...As soon as it hits the water it cools....
  10. Mechanics! Learn from that....I try to click and be ready before my Jig ever hits the water....I know its hard when your learning but force yourself to click that button with your thumb before the lure hits the water.... Water temp is never to hot for a Jig...I'm fishing 85-87 water temps and still getting bit in 2ft of water...
  11. There are lots of ways to fish the Jig....Hopping slow, Hopping really fast ,Swimming, dragging... 90% of your strikes will happen on the first fall... Summer time jiggin on a res with lots of points can be awesome...Drag them and if no bites happen try lifting it off the bottom sometimes 3-6ft if they are suspended this will work.... The bite while draggin will feel like a bluegill peck....Set the hook hard.... Blow down trees are perfect for a jig... Learn to skip! Under docks and hanging tree branches... Don't be afraid to work the jig deep! Were catching them right now down to 30ft... Most bites are about 12-18 ft with 87deg surface temps...
  12. I stopped using pork when I found Zoom Trailers. I was a non boater in a Federation Tourney and my boater was using them...He threw the used ones on the floor and said use them so I did and won't go back to pork... I was loosing fish on pork and realized that the pork was turning around and the hook point was trying to bury in the pork and not the fish....
  13. Try a 1/2 Ounce Strike King Bitsey Flip in a color that matches your rivers crawfish on a baitcaster... If your using a Spinning Rod try a 3/16 ths Bitsey Bug in the same matching color.... Sometimes a 3" mister twister on a Lead Head is kick butt smally bait in rivers...
  14. Guido Hibdon said it once.....There are 2 colors.... Black and Blue, and Blue and Black...LOL I agree with the Rogue on clear water Natural greens and browns...Unless I'm fishing below 15' then I'll stick with a black Jig.... Black in dirty water....Sometimes chartreuse... Tommorow morn I'll have a Pink Floating worm tied on and a Natural colored Zara Spook for the morning bite...I to use a freaky color now and again...
  15. Try a 1/2 ounce Jig N Pig with a Big Salty Chunk...Fish in between the docks and if you find rip rap with lights on it hit it also... Summer time bass become mainly nocturnal....So fish shallow and if there are tourneys on this lake all the time fish the ramp area...SoreMouths weigh in just the same.... Black worms are a good bet also....I would stay away from treble hooked lures after dark and stick with single point lures....
  16. After the spawn the biggest females in a system will move to deeper holes...Yet some will remain in relativly shallow water....I agree with Max that docks and slop are key spots for shallow hot weather bass..Along with lay down trees that go from shallow to deep.... I have a private lake that is loaded with big fish(for illinois) and last weekend I could catch 2 to 3 lbr's in 1-6 ft of water on a slow rolled Buzzbait....After the buzzbait died I went to the steepest drop in the lake a place where the creek channel is butted up against the bank, and threw a 1/2 ounce black Jig with a black pro chunk and was able to get bigger fish by working the jig out to 20ft or so...The biggest was 6-4 and it was roughley 17' deep on a stump.... Deep to some may not be deep to others...I have an 18' boat and when I look from one end of it to the other 18' doesn't seem that far...So to me when I start reaching the 30' ft depth I feel that is deep.....I have learned to back off and fish deeper and it has payed big in many ways....
  17. I taught myself to worm and Jig....Watched other people in the begining then decided to go to a lake that has alot of fish and knew I would get bit...Only took 1 rod rigged a 4' worm texas style and forced myself to fish only this rig all day long for several days so I could get a feel for the different kinds of bites....Then tried a saltcraw and then the Jig N Pig...On the water is the only way you'll truly learn these lures, but always read more when you can....
  18. Zoom Super Chunk Jr when Jerking (Violent retrieve) Zoom Big Salty Chunk for a slower presentation or cooler water temps Zoom Salty Pro Chunk is what I have on my Jigs now...It has a little bulk but yet has great tails for swimming action...
  19. I'm facing this very situation tonight here in illinois....We have a tourney that starts at 5:30 and goes till 9:15....The rain started last night late and its still raining very lightly...I think it could be a awesome 3 hour tourney...I'm sure our water won't be saturated with mud just yet...So I will fish the areas that I normally do, but instead of skipping under docks I'll work between them a little more than I normally would...I think a violent Jig presentation is in order..
  20. LargeMouth - 7-1/2 # Spinnerbait Lake Shelbyville Illinois Smally - 6-1/4# Smithwick Suspending Rogue Powerplant lake in central Illinois This lake during the 90's was producing 100+ Smallies a day... All Bass are released....
  21. Shallow submerged weeds that are 2-3 feet under the water and have a defined edge can be a great place to throw a spinner bait over them and burn it to the edge then let it die and fall in front of them....Strikes come on the fall of the spinner and can be explosive....Same can be done with a Jig N Pig, swim it over and let it fall in the weeds then jerk it out and let it fall off the edge.... Surface weeds have alot options....Fluke, Rat, Worms, Horny Toad, and if the fish won't blow the surface I use a Heavy Jig N Pig and punch through it to see if they are on the bottom.....Same with a heavy weighted worm...Or salt craw... Deep weed edges are awesome...Once I find the sweet spots I'll throw a 1/2 ounce Jig N Zoom chunk and let it sink into the weeds and pop it a few times and let it fall off in deeper water....Limits can be caught this way....
  22. Depends on what type of lake your on....In Minnesota where I vacation you have alot of Deep Weed edges...They can be deep as 20-25 feet pending on water clarity...These areas become very important when looking for concentrations of Bigger Bass in the summer...It's hard to pinpoint the best spots on the deeper edges, but if you keep at it you'll find small spots that can hold several big fish or a massive school of smaller fish....
