Your most unusual catch...and what bait did you catch it on?
While fishing on the Deerfield Beach Fishing Pier, Deerfield Beach Florida, I caught a seagull about 20' above the water in mid cast on a Mirro-Lure. Fought it down from the sky. That was one po'd bird. > Also caught an 18# softshelled turtle in Cypress Creek right next to my grandparents house in Ft.Lauderdale Florida. Another po'd creature. Happy fishing.

anyone a member of north american fisherman?
I've been a member for 3 years and I like their multi-species magazine. The books are very informative but can be found on e-bay for far less than N.A.F.C. sells them. If you are a member of B.A.S.S. and are familiar with their books, they are very similar and equally informative. The field testing is for the patient. Remember, there are thousands of members and only a few products to test each month. If that is all you want (free gear) then don't join. They do have a great forum though. I hit their forum and this one almost every day. I got a terrific 8 piece fillet knife, scissors, sharpener set that is worth more than the membership fee just for joining. Happy fishing.

Kidnapped/Missing! Found!!
My hopes and prayers are with all involved with this event. I know all too well the horror of this situation. My not quite 3 year old daughter was kidnapped, raped, and murdered 6-27-86 in Tucson Arizona.

Boat towing?
I suggest buying a cooler larger than you think you need. My boat and trailer weighs @ 2500 pounds. I bought a transmission cooler rated for 3500 pounds. My rig is a Chevy S-10 Blazer with 2.8 liter V-6. My boat is 16' fiberglass with 80 hp motor. The Blazer tows fine, a little slow going up hill, and I need to keep plenty of stopping distance ahead , but it works fine for me. Happy fishing.

Whats your boat payments?

Music Poll
I've been a pro/semi pro musician all my life. I've played classic rock, blues, zydeco, swing, jazz, country, and bluegrass. I like all the above. I have sirius satellite radio on my boat and listen to everything mentioned, however when fishing I prefer the Spa 73 channel, which is new age. Very peaceful and appropriate for fishing. Happy fishing.

Marker Buoys
Do you like to night fish? Here's how I make lighted bouys for night fishing. Take empty 1 gallon water bottles. Drill a hole in the cap just large enough to pass a 1/4 inch by 2 inch stainless steel eye bolt through it. Use 2 stainless fender washers almost as big as the cap, one inside cap, one outside, and add an empty fishing line spool to the assembly, on the outside of the cap.Add the nut and screw it together using silicone as a sealant to prevent leakage. Wrap nylon surveyors line around the line spool, then add a 2 ounce weight. Before you toss out bouy, snap a light stick and place it in the bottle, then screw on lid and toss out your bouy. The whole bottle will glow from the light stick. When I catfish at night, I mark 3 spots before dark and return to them through the night. Light sticks last @ 8 hours. Happy fishing.

primer bulb question
My motor is a 1967 Evinrude Starflite 80hp. I have been having consistant fuel problems with my boat. The primer bulb has always SEEMED to be working properly until today, I couldn't get it to pump up firm, and the clear glass fuel filter never filled up with fuel. Also, fuel flowed out of a small port at the top of the carb. Motor would fire, then die. I'm replacing the bulb tomorrow, and doing a carb rebuild next week. I've had a constant fuel delivery problem for months. >

My babies.
My boxer, Molly, insists on going wherever I go. ;D She has her own PFD for when she's on the boat. If you take your boxer fishing (boating) make sure she wears one too. Boxers are poor swimmers. Happy fishing.

My new project.
Hey simplejoe. I wrote this post about a year and a half ago. Hope you find inspiration in it. Feel free to ask me if you have any questions. Have fun Happy fishing. Hi Susan . I've been where you are . 18 months ago I bought a boat that looked really nice and was told was in excelent condition. Before ever getting it in the water I spent $2000 to have the motor completely overhauled. The motor is a 1967 Evinrude Starflite 80. Runs like a champ now . Arter a few fishing trips on the lakes around here I noticed an ever worsening crunching sound under foot in 2 areas of the deck. The boat is a 1977 Glastron Sportster, 16'. I pulled up the carpet in those areas expecting to replace a little plywood and be done with it. WRONG. The plywood was so rotten I could just rip out chunks with my hands. My mechanic told me to replace the deck and stringers. Never tackled a job anything like this before, but at this point I was commited. I cut out the fiberglass all around the inside perimeter with pnuematic cutting tool and removed all plywood. I left the old stringers in place (1 down the keel, 1 on either side 1/2 way between keel and side of hull) as they weren't totally rotted out. The original stringers were pine, and plywood deck was 1/2" plywood. I bought red oak to make new stringers and 3/4" marine grade plywood for new deck. After cutting and shaping stringers to fit in place I treated all the new wood to waterproof it before installation. Mixed fiberglass resin, then diluted it 50% with acetone to allow it to penetrate into the new wood, and treated the old stringers as well .I applied 4 coats to completely seal and coat wood. Pulled out all the old open cell foam from the hull (it was all waterlogged and weighed a ton ), bought twice as much new foam, closed cell to prevent waterlogging. Installed the foam, and bolted new stringers to old ones, sandwiching the old ones with new on either side, Useing stainless steel bolts. Screwed down new decking with brass screws. Applied new fiberglass cloth and resin to seal down new deck and form it to the hull. Bought new high quality outdoor carpeting and glued it to the new deck, using a roller to get it smooth and even. Then installed new high end pedistal seats fron Cabela's to replace the original back to back lounge seats. Since then I have also added a new bimini top, Minkota Edge 50# thrust trolling motor, marine band radio, Serius satellite radio, Eagle 620c depth/fish finder, compass, submersible fishing lights, dual batteries on a 1/both/off switch, fishing rod storage tubes for 8 rods, motorcycle headlights for night time operation, interior cabin lights on both sides of boat, and a solar battery charger to keep batteries full charged at all times. I did all the work myself (except the motor overhaul ) over a period of about 5 monthe last winter. I love the end result . I get constant compliments on the boat , it looks brand new , and runs like it too. Total expenses are about $6500 . That might seem like a lot, but try to buy something in the condition that this boat is in now for that amount. It was a lot of work, but for me it was well worth it. Don't hesitate to ask me for any advise or help you would need should you decide to rebuild your "good bones" boat. Happy fishing. Allen ~N.A.F.C.~B.A.S.S.~BoatU.S.~N.R.A.~A.M.A.~ Back to top

What time do you have to go fishing to beat this heat in Texas?
It was 114 here today. When I go fishing I'm usually on the lake for 30+ hours straight. Hit the water @ 12:00 P.M. first day and overnight to about 6:00 the next day. I have one of those 5 gallon drinking water coolers you can buy at Lowe's and fill it with a block of ice, a small bag of ice, then top it off with water. The ice will last @ 48 hours, so I have ice water the whole time. I also have a bimini top on my boat for shade, and if I need further cooling, I'll take a dip in the water. I also wear a fairly wide brim camo hat that I bought at Wal-Mart that has a mesh crown for ventalation, a light weight turquoise colored long sleeve fishing shirt from Cabela's that is rated SPF35, and white painters pants from Dickies that are light weight fabric. This gives me nearly full protection from ultraviolet rays, and I can stay quite comfortable with this combination on any fishing trip. 8-) Happy fishing.

WOW! Bass fishing has changed!!
Hey hightide, I still use Jitterbugs, Hula Poppers, and Dardevl lures and catch bass with them . My boat cost me @ $6000 with all the modifications and equipment I have added, and I only own 6 rods & reels, 2 medium sized tackleboxes of gear, some for bass/striper/crappie fishing, some for channel/flathead cat fishing, and I do well with what I have. Happy fishing.

Lack of storage
Hey Travis. I haven't had too many problems with the rods vertical on the transom, but I'll admit sometimes it can be a pain. btw, my son's name is Travis also. 8-) . What's a bac-rac? I never heard of one. Happy fishing.
