Swimbait Fishing Florida
I did use the EZ Gambler a couple of times, used in canals and ponds. I know many people have had success with it, one guy I know showed me some bass pics and they impressive. My reaction was not the same, I didn't care for it, I did catch a couple of small bass with. I fished both keel weighted and an EWG hooks. I was anything but upset when I hung up and had to break one off, went to fluke and did much better. My bass days are pretty much over for this year, just do a little bit of knocking around the neighborhood, it's getting humid and buggy. Not an impressive fish but I did catch this one.

My 4 am Sunday morning awakening a few months ago. I could have stocked my home with fish. Where do you get an emergency plumber at 4 o'clock Sunday morning?

Plastic On Cork Grips
It's an everyday sight down here, why I don't know, many keep the plastic straps on the combos. I keep the plastic on the cork until I've decided I'm keeping the rod, I want to return a rod as clean as can.

What Are Your Goals This Year?
^This is goal.^ I have no actually goals in mind, I do know that I will be fishing a good 340 days this year. Anyone fishing that much is going to have something good happen, the percentages are on my side. I just want catch big fish but that's really a hope and not a goal, I have no control of what is swimming around when I'm fishing. Actually size and records are meaningless to me, I don't even carry a scale. All I want is my rod doubled in half and tons of drag being pulled out.

Reevaluating High Reels
I tried the Gambler EZ, the larger version yesterday, may have just been an off day. Had a few short strikes and caught 1 fish, wasn't real impressed but I'm not ready to condemn it yet. I was using an ewg hook, I think it may work better with a keel weighted hook. I'm going out to give it another shot now, don't know if I have any keel hooks, if I do I'm changing.

What's On Your Mind Today, Fishermen?
Same thing on my mind today as everyday, that's catching fish. Today's target is snook with the outgoing tide. If mullet show up the 10+ jacks might be in the area at first light. In the PM I'll do a little bass fishing as I do most days.

Improved Clinch Knot - How Much Faith With Mono?
100% faith, but I don't use it for mono. I use a total of 4 knots, braid does get the improved clinch but with a double wrap at the end, 20# is the heaviest I use. My leaders whether they are mono or F/C get an ordinary clinch, 40# offshore, usually 20# inshore and 10-15# for freshwater. Loopknot for lures, but I just use an ordinary clinch for jigs, both fresh and saltwater. Finally an alberto for line joining. These knots work just fine.

Boss
I actually started off in the corporate world working for Diners Club. Without being an eye witness I could not comment on whether RootBeer's action was right or wrong. If he felt justified so be it. What the reaction will be in the future from fellow employees or upper management remains to be seen. One thing I've learned in the business world in the last 40 some odd years, to make a move in any company getting noticed helps quite a bit. However sometimes that move may be out the door.

St Croix Warranty ??
IMO any rod by any company should be replaced if defective without the consumer having to pay any shipping charges whatsoever. If YOUR favorite rod company offers a warranty but charges anything extra, it's a crappy warranty, however this crap is becoming commonplace. I don't know if any companies do this or not as I have never broken a rod, but the shipping container back to the company should be furnished too. Logic is simple, you buy a rod in good faith, it fails because it's defective, consumer should not have to lay out any money for any reason. $20 for a processing fee, haha, that's another joke. That's no different than taking a new defective product back to a store and they want to charge a re stocking fee. Why would a store restock a broken product? Does a car manufacture negate a warranty because more than 1 person is driving the car? There is no evidence this rod was broke due to mishandling.

How Many Rod/reel Combos Do You Really Need?
If the bite is hot there is no real reason to change lures or rods unless the fish are small, then maybe a need (or is it a desire) for a big bait set up. If the bite is slow there is nothing but time to retie or change lures, which only takes a few seconds anyway. I don't think that many rods is more efficient, you can have only 1 lure in the water at time. Efficiency is doing the most with the least.

How Many Rod/reel Combos Do You Really Need?
Not counting dust collectors I have 2 freshwater set ups. ML spinning for ponds and Med spin for high banked canals, I use the same lures on both set ups. I have quite a few inshore set ups, wind and location dictate what I take with me. I use pretty much the same lures on all my setups. The size of the fish has very little to do with my combo selections of the day, I usually fish with one, but at fixed position like a jettie I'll have 2 plus my barracuda set up. Everything I have is spinning general purpose rods, nothing heavier than mh.

Swimbait Fishing Florida
Only places don't share are private locations where I'm allowed to fish. Hagen Ranch rd about 1 mile north of Boynton Beach Blvd there is a main canal (C, Weaver Canal), fish as work your way to the turnpike about 1/2 mile. I may fish it today with an EZ swimmer. I wish those jacks came back, they have disappeared.

St Croix Warranty ??
Upon reading this how can people be certain the guide did something wrong. All I see is that the guide set the hook on a fish, I would like to think a guide knows what he is doing. Without actually being there no one but Topwaterspook knows how or why the rod broke. Questions that need to be addressed are, was the rod defective in the first place, did some one step on it, what about being jostled around during transport. Without really knowing the answers I don't know if it's a warranty issue or not. From the sound of it I might be a bit agitated at St Croix or any rod manufacturer, a rod on it's second outing should not normally break.

Riviera Maya/ Playa Del Carmen
I have been there, played golf didn't fish. Don't know if this was a bad experience but it was quite unnerving. The Federales have a rod block at the crossroads of the Cancun and Cozumel roads, I was pulled over both body and car searched. They didn't speak English, luckily I made my tee time. On the way back the Federales pulled me over again while I was getting gas. I soiled my undies. I once got pulled over in Cabo for not wearing my seat belt. Make a point to try and see Xcaret while at Playa de Carmen, it's very close.

Swimbait Fishing Florida
About the largest bass I caught this year was located about a 5 minute drive from where you'll be staying. It's only 4 miles from my home, don't know why I don't fish it more often, caught some real nice fish there.

How To Clean Cork?
Best I've found so far. Been cleaning up some of my rods lately and I have not been squeezing them out as hard as I used to. Looks like they work just as well and the erasers are lasting longer.

Anyone Else Struggle Here
Probably all in definition but I don't define sight casting as spotting an inactive fish and trying to get a strike. It happens from time to time and everyone has experienced, if records were kept I do believe the catch percentage would be very low. That is not what I classify sight fishing. When a fish makes a surface ripple, that fish is active. Fish busting on bait, without a doubt those are active fish. Spotting fish moving are active fish. Birds working chances are high fish in the area. Active fish are the ones that strike, sight casting is about being aware of what's going on and reacting to it. I'm always going to be looking for the active ones.

Swimbait Fishing Florida
I bought some EZ's yesterday, didn't realize I didn't have the right hooks, but used them anyway and had a few strikes. After I finished I deciding I was going to use them for snook and tarpon, hooked weedless for the days when heavy seaweed is floating in or on jig head for my normal usage.
-
Anyone Else Struggle Here
I'm always sight casting, my eyes are constantly roving around looking for signs of fish activity. If I happen to spot a fish I'll make a few casts and that's about it. I like to keep on the move, I only stay in a spot if it looks promising. With just about every species I fish for the strikes generally come from the fish I don't see. We get 40-50" followers all the time, they seldom hit, it's the ones that come out of the shadows at 25 mph that strike.

All Star Rods Yea? Or Nea?
I was at DSG about 3-4 years ago, on clearance they had an Allstar inshore redfish rod im 10, so I bought it. The rod casted beautifully but I felt it was short on backbone and I had trouble hoisting a 1# bass out of a canal. I returned the rod 2 days later, bought a Calico Jack and have been using it ever since.

Best States To Live In For Bass Fishing
Taxes and politics aside and not employed by the chamber or commerce I'd suggest not coming to Florida. We have heat, humidity and bugs, with lots of people in congested areas. A good portion of the population lives within 15 miles of a coast the bigger emphasis is saltwater fishing. We do have some excellent urban fishing, not a lot of places you can walk 100 yds to your backyard canal with the opportunity of an 8# bass. Quite honestly if one is hardcore bass fisherman from the heartland of the country, there are better places to go than s/e Florida.

Skunked On The Water Today......
I haven't had a strike inshore fishing for the last 4 or 5 days, not to be alarmed as it's the nature of the beast this time of year. 2 days I did some bass fishing, moderate wind and bluebird skies, not a strike. Yesterday the conditions were identical, being hard up for fish I used a senko. I absolutely dislike fishing plastic worms, but if there is a magic lure it's senko, I did not go fishless yesterday fishing the same place.
