Baitcaster Vs. Spinning
I could not have said this better and could not agree more. One thing I have not noticed in these posts is changing hands after the cast. Most right handed people cast with their right arm then switch the rod to their left hand. My left arm is not near as strong or agile as my right, I'd much prefer to fight a large fish with my stronger arm on the rod, the hand that cranks the reel does not have to be strong. With spinning tackle I hold the rod on the foregrip with my stronger arm, as I've said many times I wouldn't own a rod without a foregrip, my hand is in perfect hook setting position and I've got a bit more leverage when fighting a fish too. My freshwater spinning reels have never needed service (maybe because I use Pflueger) or yearly maintenance. I don't worry about setting brakes or tension, my casting distance is always optimum. For the very few times a b/c may have advantage are in water conditions or using very heavy lures that have little interest for me. I will go out of my way to fish open water, I want to fight the fish and not have a tug of war with plant. Spinning wins for me100% of the time.

Baitcaster Vs. Spinning
True b/c can handle heavier line for a heavier lure, but if the line were braid that one advantage would be negated. Using braid the rod has more to do with weight of the lure than the reel. A talented spinner user can put a lure to any spot. Don't really know what is meant by cranking power. If it's leverage with the handle, many spinning reels appear to have slightly longer handle, I would think that's better leverage or more cranking power. If it's drag the 2 types of reels seem be fairly comparable, not that drag should be locked down anyway, seems to be even from that standpoint. In the case of pulling a fish out of cover some may lock the drag down, a spinner can be locked down too or just grabbing the spool. At that point the rod and your arm is doing the pulling, not the reels. No question spinning reels will get line twist, but they don't backlash. Absolute pure nonsense that spinning is only used for finesse fishing, I can use the same lures with my spinning as some use with a b/c. I wouldn't want a b/c for free, what others prefer is up to them.

Building The World Record Bass
The IGFA does not take records lightly, if it is good enough for them it's good enough for me. Some of the resentment here may be do to the fact that if these fish grow to be record size, not everyone will have the opportunity to catch one.

Prescription Polarized Glasses?
Pretty much all sunglass companies make their frames and buy lenses from suppliers, then grind them to prescription specs. Fit IMO is the determining factor in selection, probably only a handful of companies making the lenses for the major brands. I would opt to buy my prescription eyewear from a local optician. Especially, as in my case with an acute astigmatism, axis different in both eyes and wearing progressive lenses, the fitting and measurement is crucial. I've taken eyewear back to either have them tweeked or remade, I don't care to go the online route. I wear flip ups for a couple of reasons, depending on the angle of the sun quite often I see better without the polarization, my navigation system on my car is too dark, I don't drive with polarized sunglasses. Rhino is right about the glare and having to clean both your prescription glasses as well as the clip ons. I've become so used to it I doesn't bother me.

Guy Builds His Own Kenworth Semi Trailer And Truck
Not even close. It's 1/2 size and 1/2 the price of a new full size one. Last new truck I bought in the mid to late 90's was 90k (not a Kenworth and not a sleeper) and a 6 axle dump trailer with a 4 part reeving system was 60k. It's a cute toy.

Fishing Rod Help
For areas without much vegetation I fish light or med light. If it's thicker I'll fish med and once in a while mh.

Mono Backing Size For Braid
You don't want to tie braid to a bare spool, I use blue painters tape and it works just fine, I put tape on when I'm using mono too. I have been spooled both by fish and boats, best to try and break off your lure before you get spooled. In the event that you can't break it off, I'd be willing to bet in most cases the knot is not going to hold.

Crazy Deal At Dicks
Been very disappointed in the selection of braided lines at DSG lately. I mainly use PP, sometimes Fins, and what I'm seeing (been to 3 DSG in the last week) is less green lines and not stocking 300 yd spools in the sizes I buy. I may start buying larger spools on line. I was at Walmart this morning and they have restocked just about everything, did buy 300 yd spool there, but they don't ever carry 15#. Some of the lures were attractive, this time of the year I fish deeper divers due to the fast current so I didn't buy any.

Why Are Lines Popping Off The Reel?
If the reels haven't been fished yet I doubt line twist is the issue, the coiling is most likely do to being overfilled. I am not a fan of having my reels machine spooled. The line goes on perfect but since the spool is off the reel you may not know if there is a line stacking problem, if there is you'll find out on your first outing.

If You Had A 1,200
Setting the record straight my Hurricanes are primarily used in saltwater, the criteria for a rod is slightly different IMO. Catching fish like the one in my avatar sensitivity is of little concern, it's casting ability and backbone, a med or mh redbone excels. Living in Florida and fishing quite a bit, catching a 5 pound bass is not unusual. My 2 most used set ups are a ml clarus and med calico jack, both with Pflueger supremes, I don't see the need for me to use anything else. I catch plenty of fish, neither reel has ever needed service and the rods are holding up prefect. I may catch bass every day but I do not consider myself a bass fisherman and don't require the most sophisticated equipment. Only the fish matters to me.

Can't Top This Story!
Boynton Beach is where I mostly fish, Lake Worth is about 5 miles.

If You Had A 1,200
Most rods I have bought at one time is 1, sometimes with a reel but not always. Once I have become comfortable with the first outfit, I know what I want for the ensuing rods and reels. Without knowing the mobility of the person involved or the proximity of retailers, I personally would avoid buying anything sight unseen on line. Case in point, I've been looking for a rod, drove about 50 miles and bought one, tried it out, then returned it 30 minutes later. I then put another 150 miles on searching for the exact brand and model I was considering buying on line, saw it in person and didn't care for it. If Mahatmas Ghandi gave me a recommendation, I'd still want to handle in person first.

How To Clean Cork?
Magic eraser works pretty good. Mineral spirits works but I find some "dirt" gets pushed into the grain of the cork giving it a bit different look.

Saltwater Striped Bass
Only be jealous that I fish 7 days a week, not where I live, I am not in one of the better fishing locations here in Florida. Coming from an urban area, now living in a congested over populated area suits our lifestyle, many would not like it. I don't work for chamber of commerce and I don't recommend Florida for most people. Where I'm at there are no stripers and redfish are rare. Several years ago we had a major tropical storm that rearranged the sand bars, fish don't come in like they used to.

More Rods Or Higher Quality Rods
I think it's admirable to support the fishing industry and the economy with higher priced gear, even if some go into hock to do so. Cost is not the major determining factor for me, I buy what gets the job done. I have rods I don't use often or at all because I don't care for them, some of those are not what would be classified as budget. I have an offshore rod that cost well over $200, used 3 or 4 times and it's been sitting for years, it doesn't get the job done. On the opposite side I have a bass rod that cost $55 and I love it and I use it almost daily. My favorite brand cost slightly under $100, I'd put it up against anything. I was at DSG in Ft Laud the other day, the associate working there,(a gentleman about my age), had an album of fish pictures sitting on the counter he had caught using my favorite brand. I catch some pretty nice fish, but my jaw dropped when I saw what he was catching with this very same rods that I use.

Getting Hooked.
Been hooked 3 times, emergency room resulting from an 8" bass, treble buried in my thumb. The other 2 times were on the beach fishing with a pappa dog, with 4x vmc hooks, both in the leg. Got the hooks pushed through but could not bend the barb to back it out. Luckily both times there was other people around and they were able to flatten the barb for me. Good idea to get a tetanus shot.

Skunked On The Water Today......
This thread could go hand in hand in the motivation to fish for bass thread. I fish for bass during the times I can go 4 or 5 days without getting a saltwater strike, certain times of the year it's real hard. Sure I get skunked once in a while bass fishing, just the way it goes, there is always tomorrow. When I do get hard up, the senko is about the closest to a magic lure.

Bassresource, Have You Ever Considered Creating An App?
Only from my point of view I have no need for a BR app, an email notification or any app while I'm fishing. I may look at BR while I'm sitting in my car waiting for squall to pass, that's about it. I try to be fully prepared before I leave home, and I already know how to tie a knot. If I happen to take a pic of nice fish, I can wait till I get home to post it. The more time I'm playing with a phone the less time my lure is in the water.

Why Technique Specific?
I don't think it does. I may cast a med fast action spinning rod (which most of mine are fast action) for fish up to 10#, I then may take a mh rod with the same specs for targeting fish a bit larger using the same exact lures. I'm not fishing any different technique just using a rod with more power to handle a bigger fish. Bass fishing for example I will use a ml for pond action but in a canal I'll take the same rod in the med version to handle the increased vegetation, I could jump it up to mh if it's really thick. Good chance I'm fishing the same lures in the same manner just changing the power of the rod to handle the conditions. I keep things as simply as I can, I'm fishing the same rod style using a senko, jig, spinner bait, jerkbait, spoons or whatever, only thing that changes is the rod power and length to match the conditions or the species.

Suggestions For A Heavy Action X/fast Tip Rod
Yes ! Before I would consider an extra fast action, I need to know what I'm going to use it for. Based on my recent experience of last week for me a X-fast tip was a negative. Using the rated max lure weight the tip was way to whippy, I labored casting that rod and I felt in back as well. Taking the very same lure and putting it another rod with the same specs except a med fast rod, distance and accuracy increased, with no pain in my back, casting was effortless. Additionally IMO an extra fast tip promotes a snap cast, I prefer a long flowing cast. I took that extra fast tipped rod back 30 minutes after I bought it.
