  1. Don't know what I'd do without actually being there. I do know that I don't play Billy Baddass on line or in person.
  2. As of yesterday my motivation is gone. Fishing for peas I see another moccasin sunning itself exactly where I like to fish this spot, glad I spotted it when I was about 10' away. I'm seeing too many of them lately...........NO MAS !
  3. I'm not familiar with Pacific yellowtail and didn't even know about Cedros Island, sounds sensational. I'm not a new comer to amberjacks, we catch them here in Florida as well as lesser amberjacks, banded rudderfish and several other jack species. I do list an amberjack as my #1 all time catch, that includes tunas and billfish. Fishing a charter in Bandaras Bay, PV, Mexico I hook into something on conventional gear. After what felt like an eternity I get the fish off the bottom and I'm spent, hand the rod to "professional fisherman", about 6'3 240# of solid muscle ( he puked in the head for the rest of trip), 3 rd guy takes over for a while then I get the rod back and we landed it. For just a 100# fish, I've never seen anything like it.
  4. I do collapse pretty early in the evening, but could use more sleep. So many fish, so little time.................haha.
  5. I appreciate the suggestion. My 2 favorite rods in my arsenal are Star stellar lites and Hurricane redbones, I can get an 8 footer with both brands. The Stars (I haven't seen 8' in person yet) are versatile, a mh 10/20 1/2 -3 oz and hvy 15/30 5/8-3oz. both fast tapers. The redbone is a hvy 15/30 1-2 oz, less versatile but I wouldn't throw anything less than 1 oz and overloading is way of life here, so 2.5 or 3 oz wont be a problem. I'm leaning toward the redbone, which I have seen, has the same butt length as the redbone I used to catch the fish in my avatar the other day. A 7'6 mh 10/20 lure weight 1oz, I was using a 1.5 oz sling jig. All said, I'm no rush.........lol.
  6. I wear flip ups not clip ons. I start fishing well before the sun comes up, my flip ups are always on and no need to carry anything extra. Depending on my angle to the water, the chop or ripple, and the position of the sun I sometimes see better without them, I'm always flipping them up and down. There is no denying that glare at times is apparent from the sides, I'm real used to it. I prefer to tie knots without polarized glasses and I don't like driving my car with them I can't see the navigational system unless I flip them up. Wearing progressives as well as having a pronounced astigmatism, I haven't found a better system for me. I have gone with prescription progressive polarized glasses, doesn't work as well for me. Cocoons work pretty good.
  7. I don't care where I catch one, a good fish is a good fish. I don't care about personal bests, tournaments or even weighing them. I'm just as happy catching an 18" bass from a pond on light spinning as I am catching a much larger one elsewhere. We have plenty bass down here, I don't put them on a pedestal outside of just having a little fun. A bass is just one of many species I fish for, I enjoy catching anything that swims.
  8. My only experience with Okuma ownership is a rod I presently use, an 8' cedros mh 10/20 coastal inshore rod. The rod has an aluminum reel seat with double tightening rings, I like that a lot. The rod has plenty of backbone, to be honest all my rods have good backbone so I can't say it's really superior in that area. To me the rod feels a bit bulky despite the fact that it's not super heavy and I don't think it casts as far as I think an 8' rod should. I'm replacing it, anyone want to buy it?
  9. A very good friend of mine has a 7' Med 6/12 3/4 lure weight rod, signature series. I have thrown it a few times and it casts a ton. I have been with him catching bass as well as 20lb snook, and have seen him bottle poppers up to 2 oz. I liked the rod a lot except I don't care for the split grip and short butt.
  10. My fishing partner.............She uses spinning gear too.
  11. I'm not bass fishing per se, I'm on a quest strictly for peacocks in my area. I went to a place where I'm sure peacocks inhabit. I see some good looking water and sight cast, nail a mayan cichlid that took me all over the canal, maybe weight 3/4 lb., my highlight of the day, I thought it was a pea at first. The bass were all over the place there, I catch a few in very short order 3-4# using only a crappie jig. Had I used a senko (which I had a rod prepped in the car) I do believe it would have been one hell of a day.
  12. Thanks............jack crevalle.
  13. I honestly don't know if it was a mistake or just great service, but I'll take it...............lol. Problems never seem to cease, besides the new reel my old boca spool with line was sent back as well. I could have just used that loaded up spool, but you know I have to put new line on. Run out to Dick's and the line selection was dismal, wanting 20# braid no 300 yd green PP was in stock, I bought yellow on sale for 19 bucks, hoping my snook aren't offended..........I do use a leader. Now I'm looking for a new rod, don't care for the 8' Okuma I've been using.
  14. These lures are used as much for casting and trolling as they are for jigging, very versatile. The comment was in response to casting distance. The rod and the lure type is going to determine the distance and nothing casts as far as these, it isn't much different than a hopkins and they are used in freshwater.
  15. I agree with Francho, my sop has always been to soak the filler spool before spooling up the reel. As I said before I always troll the entire spool before I fish, the line as far as I can see can't get any better. My line is also trolled out after I fish, so I'm ready to go for the next time. If my line is limp and not coiling I won't re soak it, if it coils I will.
  16. I have 2 Quantum cabos and 1 Quantum boca, the anti reverse was acting up on my boca. Still under warranty I sent in a week or so ago, explained the problem and wrote for an additional charge I'd like to upgrade to a cabo. A day later an on line invoice was sent to me stated Fed ex was delivering, there was no charge (shipping free too) and the invoice said issue resolved. The tracking indicated delivery set for Friday, I get home today and it's been delivered by the USPO. That really surprised me, but the big surprise was that they sent me a brand new cabo 40 instead of repairing my boca.
  17. I can.............sling jig aka jig fish, speed jig and host of other names. Metal jigs that are variations of a diamond jig. I thought a Kastmaster or hopkins casted far, until I started using these. Excellent for trolling too.
  18. Get a Mobil speed pass, 3 tanks of gas at 25 cents off the per gallon price. https://www.speedpass.com/spMyAccount/xhtml/frmSpNewLinks.xhtml
  19. ^That is what I do........^ or maybe one of these http://www.basspro.com/Rod-Saver-Vehicle-Rod-Carrier/product/15989/?hvarAID=shopping_googleproductextensions&om_mmc=shopping_googleproductextensions&kpid=15989%26adc=pg_315_11128_5282c130e4b006f67e95d983_36315092431
  20. All of the rods I fish for bass are inshore saltwater rods. Each one is a fast action rod, light , ml and med powered spinning.
  21. My book is a little different. I bass fish for 2 reasons, 1 because I like to fish and 2 because it gets me out of the house in the afternoon. I do enjoy bass fishing but it never comes before or instead of saltwater fishing. I do understand people fish what's regionally available to them, where I'm at other than me I don't know any bass fishermen. I fish about 340 days a year.
  22. For a touch up while fishing I carry a diamond file, 1 st option is to replace the hooks. I do use a mill file at home for my 12/0 limerick hooks.
  23. Backing...........never. Spending $300 or more on a set up, I'm not looking to save money on the initial spool up. Nothing wrong with using backing if so inclined. Top shotting is a little different than using mono for backing. Braid is loaded on the reel first for line capacity, then 50-100 yds of mono as a top shot for shock. Spooling up with braid then 8-10' of leader gives a similar effect for freshwater fishing.
  24. I've been using the warm water method for years. I do believe I always spool correctly but that isn't good enough for me. After spooling and before fishing I ALWAYS troll my line out.
  25. It probably is the rod and I've heard a moderate action casts further than a faster taper. Some people feel spinning casts further than b/c, but I have read reports of Avets casting 150 yds, but not on a typical bass rod. Magging Avets with rare earth magnets is often done for more control, mine is magged. I look at the reason for distance and when bass fishing I'd prefer to move closer rather than casting further, unless absolutely necessary. At distance you give the bass more opportunity to get unbuttoned, plus at distance a good hookset doesn't always happen.
