Bill Collectors Calling The Wrong Number, Me
I know a lot about this, that was actually my first job many moons ago. The laws were totally different, the phone was fair game to do whatever. Not the case now, laws prohibit any harassment from a collection agency for any reason, you have legal recourse. Not worth the time and expense but I'd start by reporting them to the phone company, they will deal with it. Fund raisers are exempt they can call and ask, most calls come from a fund raising company where little money is actually donated. I have a number of ways I get rid of them, from hanging up to keeping them on the phone a long time so they can't call as many people. I used to love messing with the boiler room callers having the next great investment, that's against the law now to solicit, in Florida it's an $11,000. fine for each offense.

Anyone Else Feel This Way...
True the same questions are asked over and over and the same people do most of the responding. Not that there isn't good information, but forums are gathering places, not much different than AOL chatrooms used to be. If I slept a normal 8 hours I'd be here a whole lot less, I'm up at midnight, it gives me something to do before I go fishing at 4 am. I pretty much can find what on I'm looking for on the internet, but the feeling isn't the same as belonging to a forum.

Question For The Saltwater Guys
Hattrick7 is right about the target species in saltwater, the gear can be totally different for various species as well as techniques. Bottom fishing in depth is not unreasonable to use 2-4-6-8 oz of weight depending on the current and depth, an inshore rod would not be the thing to use. The poster is not looking to fish in the salt, a freshwater rod will be function no different than it's saltwater counterpart.

I Have An Interview. I Think. Help? Edit : Got The Job :)
This is a first job, as Root Beer said it may be part time or an entry level position, benefits should not be a primary focus. The object is to get yourself into the workplace, build a resume and hopefully move up in the world. This not an interview for an upper management position, don't see the need for a thank you note, you'll either get the job or you won't. Reading an earlier comment about outworking a manger, may be one of the more inane (insane too) and insipid remarks I ever came across in the business world. Managers and owners are there for a reason, they worked up to that position by learning the business. Totally ludicrous to think when hiring in that one knows more about the function of that company than the person in charge. Owners and managers for the most part work with their minds, and brains will always prevail over brawn.

Total Animals Raid Walmart
The story is only about a handful of people, and the appearance of some posts seem to be directed at one segment of our population. Much of this rhetoric is like listening to a biased one side news station. Judging the entire system is overplaying what really happened. I don't care to boast about my righteousness, that's a high bar that I may not always live up to, I'm a bit dubious of people that do, none of us are perfect.

Chalk that up to crossword puzzle expertise, not an abundance of intellect.

Your words not mine. Whether one accepts it or not the fact is that he does happen.

I Got Fat!
The older you get the harder it is to lose weight. A person 50 or 100# overweight probably will see quicker weight loss than someone needing to only lose 5 or 10#, the last pounds are the hardest. The real key is to be aware when you're young, be active and stay fit, the chances of becoming porcine later in life will be greatly reduced.

Total Animals Raid Walmart
In my own opinion way too much has been made out of this story. I don't condone abusing any system but the the harsh reality is that it happens on all levels. Money is the root of all evil and people will take advantage of an opportunity when given the chance. This behavior spans thru all social groups, income levels and businesses of all types. It would be impossible to name them all, but just a few, Dr's coding procedures to take advantage of insurance companies, in fact there are courses on how to do it. Multi billion dollar corps. getting "welfare". My recent flood, insurance is considering giving me new kitchen cabinets where the damage is really minimal, you bet I'll take new ones if I have the opportunity. Banks and credit card co's charging some crazy and unreasonable fees, legal yes, do we like it, no but next to nothing can be done about, and let's not forget derivatives. Quite true people abuse the welfare system, IMO it's a drop in the bucket compared to the overall chicanery going on, this story really is only about a handfull of people. I'm not passing judgement, I'm not that perfect either. I've lived a long time and in both my private life as well as my business one when I hear the words "trust me", "don't worry about a thing", I'm an honest businessman", that's when I do start to worry. Was I an honest businessman, absolutely not, nor was anyone else in the same business, opportunity presents itself it's human nature to take advantage. Yes, money is the root of all evil !

The Southern Comfort in Boynton http://www.southerncomfort4charters.com/ I think it; 75 bucks, max 10 people, need reservation. They also have a walk on boat for 40 half day, both boats are pretty new.

Cocktail Blues
They showed up again today and a fish a cast, even had a 2 banger on one topwater lure. I got cut off 3 times today, my loss for the last week or so is probably in the area of $90 in lures, that's fishing. I did put wire on at that point, and that was the end of the bite. Question is did the wire curtail the bite or did they just clear the area, I'm going with them just leaving and looking for bait elsewhere. We catch much bigger fish in the summer, but this time of the year it's lots of action with smaller fish.

Spinning Rod Setups??
I say anything in moderation is fine, I don't like overkill. I have 3 freshwater spinning setups I use from shore, I take only 1 with me, I take the one best suited for the water I'll be fishing. I carry my lures in box in my pocket and pliers stuck in my belt, that's it and nothing else. When I did fish from a boat it was 2 spinning set ups, one just a bit heavier than the other, as far as I was concerned I was ready bass, pike, walleye or whatever. I did bring a tackle box so what ever rig I wanted was available to me. I like simplicity.

I've seen the bass bite pick up a bit around here this past week too.

I Got Fat!
Once I reached adult hood it was time to get rid of the baby fat and there was plenty of it. I liked nice clothes and women, fat was not where it's at. Once I got into the scrap business much of the work was physical, even increasing my food intake the pounds melted off quickly. For a good 30 years my weight stayed pretty much the same, I did have a gym in basement and had a workout routine too. I discovered I was a diabetic 4 years ago, dropped quite a bit of weight and I was sick. Between my medication and a healthy diet my sugar levels are controlled and I gained weight back pretty much to where I was. I don't work out at all any more, but I do stay fit. I walk the beach a mile or 2 each morning fishing, the soft sand and casting for a couple hours keeps me pretty limber, my legs are in good shape and my casting muscles are good too, I don't get tired or sore because I do it every day. At 68 being active and feeling good is enough for me, not interested in looking like body builders. I weigh about 135#, doubt I will ever gain any significant weight.

My St. Croix Experience
I think $50 is great deal to get a new rod. I do consider myself lucky having places local for over the counter exchange, but even luckier with the brands I use never having to deal with a broken rod, whether manufacturer defect or my my fault. Needing to use the warranty multiple times with 1 manufacturer, hmmm, I might be looking for a new rod company.

Spare Spool, Spinning Reel Rant
Quite true in some cases, I have second spools that are graphite and not aluminum. As a rule I do not use the spare spool, with 1 exception. I fish braid, many of the drift boats down here do not allow braid being used, when I go on those boats I will use the spare with mono on it.

Using Jigs And Casting Them??
Being a saltwater fisheman I cast jigs for distance everyday, but the jigs are different. Not that I don't use these same bucktails for bass fishing but casting distance is not a priorty. If you happen to get a strike at distance even using braid the hook set is not as sure IMO, also you give the fish more time and distance to get unbuttoned. I feel working a jig is more productive than "heave and retrieve" for bass, I'd stick with traditional bass type jigs and work em.

Spare Spool, Spinning Reel Rant
My abus all came with an extra spool, believe my pfluegers did too, my stradic fi's also did. But you are right, many no longer do. Where as the cost of an extra spool may be considerable to the consumer, the actually manufacturing cost probably is not all that significant. Most likey raisng the MSRP a modest sum might satsify both them and us. Every manufacturer that comes on board with this policy, in time that may will reduce the number of ones that do give an extra spool, it will be industry standard.

My St. Croix Experience
A company should send out prepaid shipping labels, not too many do in any industry, I've gotten them with some types of products for a warranty claim. Whether it's a rod or reel why should I have to pay for shipping when I didn't create the problem. The quality of the rod is not in question, but it did have to go back, what I question is the warranty process for most companies. As cooperative as they are, they just as soon make things difficult to discourage people using the warranty especially for a lower end item. Paying a fee to have a warranty honored is B.S., rod breaks and it's their fault the entire exchange should be free of charge.
