What's Your Favorite Type Of Plastics?
Plastic flukes, both fresh and saltwater. I broke with my own tradition yesterday and fished a bass jig with a trailer for the first time in my life. I absolutely hated it, just too slow for me and it bored me to tears. I actually did catch about 5 fish in half hour or so and the sizes were decent. Objectively it caught fish, even though I used my same inshore rod I always use bite detection was no problem, as I say rocks don't swim. I think for some people they are a real winner, just not my style, even though my fluke didn't come close to the same production I enjoy them better, just a lot more fun.

How Many Label Their Lure Boxes?
No labels and no tackle bag, I know just by looking what I have. I do use a fanny pack for my inshore fishing with 6 plastic lure boxes, spoons, bucktails, hard jerks, gotchas, top water and storm wildeyed, I know what each weighs and how they react because I use them every day. Have a pretty good memory on what lines I have on each reel, extra spools too. I can't tell you what I watched on TV last night, but have a memory like a steel trap for details.

Wlures.com - Mass Produced Chinese Lures
I use a lure than is no longer made, occasionally I find them on Ebay and gobble them up. It's a $2.99 lure that has out produced any lure I can think of for bass and peacocks for me. I break the lips off xraps (which I do like) all the time, but these lures as cheap as they are last and run true. The hooks are not very good, when it's replacement time a 3x treb is my choice.

Oh What The Heck
Don't diagnose yourself, there are experts out there that can do a far better job than you.

7Strand Uncoated Wire & Sleeves
I'm surprised local shops don't have it, even Dicks carries most items. I personally have not used 7strand uncoated wire, I use coated Surflon with sleeves or single strand piano wire ( Malins ) using a haywire twist for connection.

A Little Work Ahead Of Me.....
I fish community ponds, the years we have some vegetation growing the fishing is better, it's fairly barren now and the fishing hasn't been as good, the fish are there, my ponds are landlocked. The HOA at least in my community cleans these ponds up in a hurry after a storm may have deposited some debris that may enhance the fishing, not to mention weed spray every couple of months. Be an exercise in futility for me to put anything in the water.

Bps Catalogue
The only item I order from BPS is their HOT LIPS jigs, it's a good jig and the price is right. I can't drive down there cheaper than the shipping cost, I don't like walking thru big box stores, just to much stuff, even Dicks is more than I want to deal with. 90 minute drive both ways plus time at the store, I'd rather be fishing. If I can't catch bass using the 1 fishing aisle at Walmart, I can't catch them with anything, I look for fish, not magic bullets.

Dare I ask? Zebco Omniflex Braid
Lunker7, on 06 Jan 2013 - 13:24, said: They don't make braided line in that price range, but they do have Trilene XL armor coated. This is around 10 bucks/spool and it should hold up for any bass fishing. (At least it does for me) I need braid for snakehead/bass fishing areas.Too much risk of losing fish and even worse, lures. There's no way I could have retrieved that fish in my avatar without it unless on some really heavy line. I use other line for other applications/areas though.

A Quick Poll
The only conventional reel I own that I cast with is an Avet MXJ, nothing to set and no level wind, both thumbs need to be educated, 1 to control the spool to avoid backlashes and the other to load the line back on evenly on retrieve. I have the highest admiration for the guys that surf cast exclusively with this type of reel. I do it for a little fun once in a while but much prefer spinning gear, a whole lot less confusion.

Kotg
Been a little slow for me too over the last few days, but have managed at least one pretty decent fish every day. It may be the bait, I have been fishing 100% of the time with a fluke as a topwater. Yesterday I was struggling a bit, one of my neighbors starts fishing next to me at my canal using a Culprit worm on a lead head., pulling them in on almost every cast.

The Road To The Super Bowl
I wouldn't take much away from the Seahawks, RG3 does not play on the defense. Seattle's offense rose to the occasion, overall the Hawks played a good game.

Is There Way To Make Finiky Fish Bite An Alabama Rig?
I'd probably do the same with it. In all fairness I don't it's conducive for South Florida canal fishing, especially from the bank. It probably may be best utilized in open water, compared to fishing in slop. I would be more inclined to use a double fluke rig, but have no real desire to do that either except on the occasional lark.

7Strand Uncoated Wire & Sleeves
I buy this stuff all the time, luckily I can get coated and uncoated wire and sleeves at my local tackle store. I do order from a company in NY, Terminal Tackle and 4fishin.com, both companies have just about everything. I have found that I prefer a single barrel sleeve over a double barrel. Codes for sizes are not consistent from one outlet to another, an email to them would get you the right ID (inside dimension) for 60Lb wire. When crimping, do not crimp too close the the ends of the sleeves. Quite often I'll crimp heavy mono leaders like 60-80 or 100# instead of tieing.

Co-Anglers - What Would You Do With Only 5 Rods.
I'm both hot and and cold on snaps like a duolock. I use them all time in freshwater and they are excellent for quick change. The negative for me is getting a bit lazy and leaving my leader on too many days, that isn't a knock on the lock but on me. I don't recall any failure with them in both fresh or salt, when the fishing is slow in saltwater I prefer a loopknot, when it's hot I'll use a snap. I tend to shy away using a snap with a topwater lure.

Did I Make A Good Choice On This Rod
Just enjoy the rod and adapt to it, you'll be fine in no time. I personally use nothing but a med 7' spinning outfit for all of my freshwater fishing with any type of lure I choose. I do downsize my rod and reel when I'm pond fishing, but I still use the same exact lures.
-
How Much Line?
I don't ever use backing and I mostly use braid. When it's time for fresh line the remaining line on spool is my backing, I'll load up somewhere around 60-75 yds of new line. I like my knot buried in the spool when I'm casting. I don't overfill the spool, probably closer to 1/4" from the lip than 1/8.

Do Fiberglass Rods Have Less Feel Then Graphite?
Learning to fish with the unsophisticated equipment of the 50's my muscle memory is pretty well trained into feeling bites and setting the hook using any kind of rod and lines. I do prefer graphite for all of my freshwater and inshore fishing where I'm only using artificial lures, the entire combo just feels better to me. Offshore I have a few composite rods, they may be better suited for trolling and drift fishing, most are probably heavier than their graphite counterparts. I have been thinking about a Shimano Terez, it's appealing to me.

Best Treble Hooks?
As long as they are cheap, strong and sharp, that = Eagle Claw. I use #6 in 3x and 4x for 4's thru 3/0.

How Many Setups Do I Really Need?
There is a difference in what you want vs what you need. I have quite a few combos but when I'm shore fishing, which is most of the time, I carry only one rod. I carry what I feel is the appropriate rod and reel for the water I'm fishing and my target species, not saying I don't have another combo with me in my car in case of needing something else or mechanical failure. I'm not one for specific rod and reel types, I use any kind on lure on any kind of rod, I keep things real nice and simple. For the most part saying that you don't have the right outfit is an excuse for not catching fish, it isn't the reason.

Chatroom
I've been in quite a few chat rooms over the years, none lately, yes there were some heated debates but for the most part required no moderation. A good chat room allows all sides of a topic to be aired and quite a few subjects turn to politics, a BR restriction. Some forums( fishing related ) have a chat room feature, which are not open 24 hours but have certain "room hours". Some of these forums do not restrict content of topics, not only is there an "Everything Else" section, but sections where one can take off the gloves and discuss any subject matter is encouraged. Given the fact of the exceptionally large BR membership, certain restrictions should be in place here......this ain't the place for chat room.

Casting Net 4Live Bait,(Good Or Bad )Idea In Fresh Water???
Fishing from shore in South Florida lakes and canals I'd probably use a bobber, most I have fished are fairly shallow. If I were to fish with weight using a live shiner I might try a trolley rig or variation of.

Is Buying A Spooling Station Worth It?
I like that box idea, does the hole get elongated with the pencil running thru it? Maybe a bolt, washers and nut would work too. I only use mono on a few rigs that I have, but I do quite a bit of respooling on those combos. I limp my line out under hot water, spool it up and troll the line out in current before I fish with it.

Casting Net 4Live Bait,(Good Or Bad )Idea In Fresh Water???
Castnets in Florida are legal for catching baitfish in freshwater for recreational use, I believe there is a mesh size requirement.
