  1. What you have seen are saltwater sheepshead.
  2. I don't know the first thing about Charlie Moore, except he's on TV and I'm not..........he must be doing something right. He will go away when the ratings fall, for now he must have a fan base or he'd be canceled.
  3. The looks only matter to the fisherman, not to the fish. Those lures look ok, I have lures that have only 1 or 2 hooks on the treble, and I don't replace them that often. This bass lure which has never caught a bass but lots of snook, jacks and cuda is just starting to look good now.
  4. My partner was killing the kings this week, I was at home under the weather and couldn't go. One day he got cut off so much he ran out of hooks. BTW, yesterday was warm , humid with a dead wind, against my better judgement I wore a long sleeve Columbia fishing shirt, synthetic material. I don't think I ever suffered so much with the being overheated, those shirts don't breathe. I'll take 100% cotton anytime.
  5. Nice catch, wtg..........we nearly got skunked today 1 small king and 1 small bonita, west wind a like a mirror out there, too calm. How deep were the dorado?
  6. To the contrary. A trend in rods today is being led by Shimano and their Terez rods, designed for bait as well as lures, there are boat models with gimbal butts, traditional cast and retrieve and a tuna rods that's 7'4. These rods are designed specifically for braid, they can be long and light and handle some very hefty fish. I have never caught a freshwater striper, but I have caught many saltwater ones. A good rod will not break...... http://www.spanishflytv.com/theater/shimano-terez-boat-rod-series/

  8. The spheros is classified as an "offshore spinning reel", seems obvious to me Shimano means to say "offshore saltwater spinning reel". The 2 reels can't be compared, when it comes to repetitive casting and retrieving the spheros is not as smooth to start and gets that "geary" feeling to it, I have 2 of them a 4000 and 8000. The spheros is a workhorse offshore reel, IMO one can do better for a freshwater reel, hands down is not in the same league as a stradic, I own 2 of them as well. I would not sway anyone away from a stradic if wanting to stay in the Shimano family, a very good freshwater and inshore saltwater reel. All that said, if I were wanting an offshore saltwater reel the stradic would not be my choice, it's not an offshore reel. Staying in the Shimano line up I'd consider the sargossa, same price range and a solid reel. I've owned and used all of these reels.
  9. I have a similar problem with my Abu Soron 60, I get a slight noise on retrieve under load of a lure. Dead quite with spool on and just turning the crank. I sent the real into Pure Fishing, maybe a miscommunication as all they did was send the real back and gave me a new spool, at first I thought it was a line roller bearing too. The situation with the new spool is not near as bad as it is with the original spool which has braid on it. This is a light reel, has a drag of 30#, smoother than silk and handles amberjack......I no longer even notice the noise. Why the Soron was discontinued and replaced by the Orra is a mystery to me, I own a 20, 2 40's and 60, they have caught some big fish.
  10. I have a fallen arch, shoes are hard to buy and I would only buy them at a store, online can be hassle. I have had excellent success with Teva Helm 2, but they discontinued them, curious as to which Teva is posted above, may be worthwhile to try on.
  11. Heck of a leap..........cuda's are one of my favorites.
  12. I buy those 2.99 bombers small ones work great for bass and the larger ones are snook slayers. I catch as many fish on cheaper lures as I do more expensive ones. My bass stuff doesn't get replaced very often, it lasts pretty good, but not my snook lures, they don't seem to stay in my possession too long, I use way more soft plastics on jig heads for them, or just a plain bucktail.
  13. I don't know what it is, all kinds different species thruout the world.

I agree......no car I've owned in the last 10 years or so has been dead on as far as a roadside speed indicators, I get a new car every 2-3 years, I haven't had a speeding ticket in over 10 years either.
  15. I've got impulse well under control. I do my homework before I pull the trigger, having more that enough rods and reels already certainly helps. I was BPS last week and walked out only with some bucktails, that's all I needed and didn't even look at a rod or reel. I do want to replace a few rods, but what I have is working well, until I break one, sell one, or just throw it out, I won't be buying.
  16. If I were to pick one sized hook 4/0 would be my choice. The style may be different but the size is the same. I use 4/0 worm and ewg for bass, 4/0 circle for live bait or cut bait, and 4/0 trailer hooks for some species. I do use other sizes but 4/0 is most popular, from fresh to saltwater.
  17. Fish as a whole (I don't think this is strictly a bass issue) get big because they eat. They don't get big because they are smart, they aren't. A fish does not ponder a problem then work out a solution like a higher order animal. Fish react on the instincts mother nature has given them, sometimes they react better to big bait and other times to a small bait. IMO the reason a bigger fish is caught is that the bigger fish beat out the smaller one to the bait, or maybe the little one just ate something and wasn't aggressive. How many times does this happen, probably almost daily with me. 2 people fishing the same lure, live or cut bait, same area and one person catches nothing or small one and the other fisherman gets a large fish, next day it's vice versa.
  18. Are not lobster, crab and shrimp scavengers? They are and are forbidden to eat according to kashrut law. No longer are they considered a poor mans food, quite the opposite is true today, and they taste great.
  19. Has anyone ever used that rod loop?
  20. There is absolutely no need for backing when using braid on a spinning reel, as a cost cutting measure it's a good idea, but no slippage will happen if you use tape. Every reel I own both mono and braid has tape on the spool before my line is put on. I personally go braid all the way, that's a personal choice, I will add braid if needed and when I do join the lines I use back to back clinch knots, have next to no problems with it. I've used the alberto, it works good too but I'm more prone to use it offshore in the ocean.
  21. That is one of the easier walking canals, you are right at water's level.
  22. I lived about 30 minutes from Lake St Clair, we had a boat at Jefferson & 9 mile. Given my choice, I'd be fishing the Canadian side near Walpole Island.
  23. I pretty much agree with Tony, I'm not a fan of a warning system, I agree with Stasher too.. The 3 of us can get fitted for a fishing jersey with a big Scarlet B.
