  1. Every now and then a thread evolves into a topic about M.I. specifically. The OP question was "have you Iconelli'd ?" The issue is not what M.I.'s merits and shortcomings are, but what are yours?

  3. I use saltwater inshore spinning rods for sw and freshwater too, to me they feel like a feather. I use the same rod for bass that I use for my inshore species, I prefer them. I do know this, I don't worry about backbone, hooksetting or moving a bass around with a m 8/17 inshore rod.
  4. I fish saltwater 7 days a week, bad weather I may not be on a boat but I'm somewhere. I bass fish too.
  5. The dress should reflect the type of job being interviewed for. Skilled trades, labor, construction a suit isn't needed, but a suit is for a professional position. In large companies, owners, ceo's and the like are not involved in day to day of hiring employees, they are only involved with top level executives. So if the plant manager is in charge, then he's is the one that has to be impressed. I have around 35 years of business and ownership experience under my belt. can't say how many times I've heard this " my manager or supervisor doesn't know crap" or words to that effect. Bottom line is that in the majority of cases they are in that position for reason, they do know more than the people they are hiring.
  6. This is a transition period, at least for me, my bass days are few now and the saltwater bite has been spotty. I'm out of my ordinary routine, I've been using live bait a bit more often, like senkos in freshwater live bait inshore catches some nice fish with much less effort.
  7. I don't disagree with Fish Chris. I wear fishing pants and long sleeves mostly for protection from no seeums. and sometimes it's a bit chilly in the morning. Once the sun is up and it warms up, bugs are gone, it's shorts and short sleeves. I will not under any circumstance fish freshwater after May 31, the gnats come with the humidity and I just won't deal with it.

  9. What ever job you get, the opportunities are wide open. I knew a guy that was a young CPA, got a job as a controller for one of the largest scrap yards in the mid-west, it was called Grant Southern at the time. Not many years after he started working there the owners were ready to retire, he bought the company and built it even bigger, Changed the name to Ferrous Processing and Trading ( FPT), he then sold it for some astronomical number. He wasn't the only CPA I knew that grew very large in a similar manner.
  10. You don't need a half dozen Loomis NRX's and 6 tackle bags full of lures to catch fish either. People that can afford an expensive boat, all the power to them. Is a Bentley worth 150K more than a Chevy, most likely not, but it's a darn sweet ride and so is a $50,000 boat. I had a 34' Carver, great boat and I didn't even fish out of it. I fished from a rowboat with 6.5 Elgin hp ob, cost free, people left it with the home.
  11. I think Glenn is right, we may see a lot of boats but the market really isn't that big. If you want to spend a buck on a boat, try a sailboat, or cabin cruiser.
  12. I agree, since I don't compete weights and personal bests aren't real important to me. I will admit I do get curious if it's a very large fish, but not enough to carry a scale. A tape measure is the determining factor in whether a fish is legal or not.
  13. Worst sunburn I ever had was in Key West, 1977. Wore shorts and t shirt on a charter, my arms were blistered and I couldn't straighten them out for a few days. It was my first exposure to the sun in many months, The most important 4 letter word after you have been burnt...........ALOE! I don't mean what comes in bottle, but get the actual plant, the gel is a miracle drug, wish I would have discovered that the first day of my burn.

  15. Redline's advise is right on. Good tailoring can make an inexpensive suit look good. The suit should match the interview as Robert mentioned, if you are unsure of the tie, do a little internet searching and you'll have your answer. I believe most of the time a conservative outfit is the way to go for an interview, what you may wear out on a date or for dinner is a different issue.
  16. I think it's hard to compare an amateur or lower tier professional to that of a top tier professional in any competitive activity. Quite true than many of these tournament fishermen need to score in order to make a living and gain noteriety. Iconelli is not one of them, he's his own brand name. Tournaments have already been won, books written, DVD's produced, the list goes on, he's one of the 10% that makes 90% of the money. Regarding the OP thread, I never lose my cool over a fish. If I were fishing tournaments they would not be on the level of the ones with 6 figure purses, for me I'd be there for the sake of having a good time, win or lose, it wouldn't affect my lifestyle. In business and investing I have lost numbers that significantly affected my lifestyle, but I've won too. That's how the game of life is played. Losing your "cool", isn't cool !
  17. Money and competition changes nothing, If one is prone to go ballistic they will lose their cool over minor issues as well. Many people lose their own money, whether it be investing, business or gambling and never flinch. Would Warren Buffet or Carl Icahn have a rage over losing 30 million dollars on a deal gone bad, I rather doubt it. I lose a big fish and hardly pay much attention to it, I know I get some and lose some.
  18. Triton21 made good points . It wasn't the rod or the line, it simply was a matter of " that's life and those things happen " or user error. The hardest thing about pulling in an 8# bass is keeping it in open water, the cover will give you more problem than the fish. People either don't keep a tight line or many times just get too excited and forget how to play a fish. I fish spinning, mostly med and mh rods, I either adjust my drag while fighting a fish or really prefer to palm the spool, increasing my drag when I want more pressure on the fish. A word of caution, be careful not to get mono burn or braid cut on your hand or fingers with a fish that can peel off a quick 75 yds, it's happened to me.....it hurts. Another thing I may add is don't be shy about putting your hand on the rod blank for some leverage to help move the fish around.
  19. I'm dropping my wife off at the Ft laud airport Monday morning, after a quick stop at BPS to pick up some bucktails I'm gonna do some fishing. Can't make up mind to head west and search for peacocks or fish the Griffen canal near the airport, I've never had much success there, I should have the outgoing tide.
  20. Fishing for fun with the plan of releasing my fish I know loosing some lures is always going to happen. Given a choice for my thrill of the day, a 2# bass or a 40" pike, I know what I'm picking. Some of the far northern people call walleye pickerel, those guys I want...
  21. I agree with Rolo regarding Florida's heat, but it does get humid. I wear long sleeve t shirts most of the time, maybe more so in the summer months due to the no seeums. My Columbia, World Wide Sportsmen and other brands in synthetic materials have fallen out of favor with me, they get hotter than cotton.
  22. I've took notice of lunar tables before, in fact the very same one listed above. Sometimes they were dead on, and other times it was dead off, but a broken clock is right twice a day. Some of my best catches in life have been when every thing has been against me. Wrong weather, wrong tide and wrong location, it's getting lucky......I'd rather be lucky than good, lol.
  23. Seems more like old tradition rather than a technical reason for having the handle on the right side. I prefer having my more coordinated arm working my lures, I also want my stronger arm handling the rod when the fish is fighting, I'm right handed so my rod is always in my right hand. When I have a fish on spinning gear the line is not loose, it's taut with he fishing pulling line out, the reel is retrieving the fish in coordination with the rod. If a spinning spool was mounted on the side the perception of a winch would be similar to that of a b/c, with the exception of a revolving drum. Both reels gather up line, fish on or not. IMO if people had started off using a left hand crank from the git go, they would never understand the why anyone would use a right hand handle. Tradition does seem to be changing, more and more reels are offered both ways now.
  24. I didn't strike out but close to it. First cast hooked a snook on a jig with a worm trailer, current was very strong I had a very hard time landing a fish that went 7# at best, skunked the next 3 hours. Came home went bass fishing for an hour and not a strike. Yesterday caught 3 snook and 2 hefty jacks, bass fishing in the afternoon and caught 3 in about 30 minutes............what a difference a day makes.
  25. If this morning was any indication of what's in store for the weekend, stay home and cut the grass.......lol
