Most Useful Technology In The Past 25 Years
Been think about this for awhile, for me it was about business and not personal use. At first my thoughts were the cell phone, my first one was around 1988. After really thinking about it I decided the fax machine was of more importance to me, they had been around for many years but my fist was in 1990 ( glad to see thermo paper go ). The computer, mine was 1992 or so was a distant last. DOS operating system if anyone can remember, win 95 revolutionized the computer era. For 20 years of business computer use, my data was still backed up on hard paper copy, best move I ever made, paper doesn't crash.

How To Take Photos Of Yourself With Fish
Only thing that works for me is another person and I don't see many of them where I fish. I'm only carrying a smartphone, which does not work well for a selfshot, once in a blue moon I may have a regular camera with me. I really do need to perfect the art of making my 5 pounders look like 10, do I need longer arms?

Going Over The Rod Rating....
I think the rod should be fine, but I think your back and shoulder are going to feel it. I exceed the limit on my rods quite often, but 1oz rating and a 2 oz lure is pushing it too much, get a heavier rod, you will thank yourself.

Giant Muskie
That's a big fish................ A fish that size should be unhooked in the water. There is a lot temptation to weigh and photo a fish that size, I'd do it too. I don't much care about records but it would be great just to know how big the fish actually was and have a pic as a memento. If a fish lives to that size I'm for letting it die a natural life, I don't want to eat it. One of the most elusive fish that I have stalked are muskies,

Moving
They are hiring in North Dakota, best place in the country for employment, I've seen a few promos on TV about that state. I had thought Idaho would have been good, but it does rank down a bit on the list. Close to you now id Vermont and N.H, not too bad at all and VA is pretty good too. Va has moderate weather and good recreation. http://www.bls.gov/web/laus/laumstrk.htm

Shortening A Rod Handle
@ Marty, I said one of the few as I have noticed a number of people that seem to desire a shorter rear grip and it is true a top lure is easier to work. I like casting with a longer butt better, I've gotten so used to working a top lure with it that's it's second nature and I don't even think about it. Quite common for me to use a top water plug with 7'6 and 8' rods, everything thing is longer, that I don't recommend, takes a lot to get comfortable. If I wanted a rod with a shorter butt, I'd buy one. If I want a 7' rod, that's the length I want, I don't want to make it shorter.

Looking For A Spinning Reel
Bang for your buck, any Pflueger product falls into that category. For freshwater bass fishing most reels priced under $100 will easily meet the demands for freshwater bass fishing. If you plan on doing double duty with some light inshore fishing IMO the ante should be raised a bit. As a kid did your mother ever put veggies on your plate that made you want to vomit, even though you never tasted them? That's what happens to me every time I see a Symetre, I just wanna puke. Not knocking the reel, I never had one in my hands, I'm sure it's a decent reel. The stradics are really nice reels, I love the ones I have, but IMO I wouldn't spend that much $$ for a light duty freshwater reel.

Getting Larger In My Pond
We have 6 community ponds ( canal just off property too) they have never been stocked. One of the residents 25 years ago caught some bass elsewhere and put them into one of the ponds, ponds are connected so there was some migration. Almost as soon as there is storm debris the HOA cleans it out, so there is a lack of real cover. This one I'm sorry I didn't have my cam/phone with me.

Frivilous Lawsuit
The woman at McD's wasn't young and more than likely her motor skills were diminished abit. I have experienced similar coffee problems at Dunkin. I seldom dronk coffee in the car, but when I do I always go inside and add my cream and sweetener at a a table, the cup is always filled right to the brim. I spill some out as I don't want to have an accident, I don't know how people do it in their cars without spilling.

Getting Larger In My Pond
Went out for a quick 20 minutes of bass fishing in home pond, cutting to the chase measured the length with my rod mark, 23". Using a light action rod and a blaze minnow. Have caught quite a few 2-4# recently, hope there's another nice one in there. I did hook and lost a real nice one a few weeks ago in the same area, I think it could be the same fish.

Shortening A Rod Handle
I may be one of the few that prefers a longer butt on my rods, I use a top lures quite often too.

Treble Hook Question
Best treble hook I have ever used comes stock on mirrorlures ( I don't know who makes them), they just don't break, even under the rigors of hard fighting jacks and bluefish. I've had blues bite the hooks right off other brands. I use mirror twitchbaits for bass fishing sometimes, that hook just ain't gonna break.

Gear Monkey...
I fish a minimum of 330 days a year and over the last 6 years I've had 2 reel failures while fishing. Once the bail screw loosened up and fell out, was on foot and had a back up rod and reel in the car. A second time I had a large fish toast a reel while I was offshore ( was a cheap reel to begin with) had 2 other setups with me so my fishing wasn't hampered a bit. I have never had reel failure while fishing freshwater, according to my memory. 30 rods on a boat, kind of overkill imo, especially when targeting 1 or 2 species and the average weights are between 1 and 10#, giving a big benefit on the high side. If you buy decent equipment, make sure it's in good working order before your outing, know how to fight a larger fish( drag setting and operation), and lastly know how to land a fish, the chances of rod and reel failure is extremely low..............I have no need to carry spares.

Fishing With Live Blue Gill
I find leprosy more appealing than bait fishing for bass. I caught my first fish on a flatfish when i was about 6 or 7, a pike that seemed like it was 10 feet long, I'm sure it was more like 10 inches, lol...............I've been the one hooked on casting ever since.

Frivilous Lawsuit
Even a written contract is contestable when made under duress. The couple didn't shoot him, the police did, not that they should be sued instead. As a prisoner I would think the taxpayers would be paying his medical..................can't see any foundation for suit, calling this suit frivolous is giving it more merit than it deserves.

No interest in baiting and waiting.

Do You Ever Get Hooked When Lipping A Bass?
Yep !

P Line Cx, Am I Missing Something Here?
For me the issue with any " clear " line is how it manages, not the strength. I have caught many good sized fish on the cheapest of clear lines. My last picture post of a larger fish was my reef shark, about 7' long caught on 20# mono /40 lb mono leader. Cxx didn't cut it for me in the management area, returned the spool to P line and they sent me back 2 spools of floroclear, which is pretty good and trilene xl doesn't let me down.

Looking For A Spinning Reel
In the price range you mentioned I'd first spend a lot of time doing research, the choices are many, about every manufacturer will make something you're going to like and will do the job. I'm sure after some research you will whittle your list down a bit, go see those reels in person and see how they feel on the rod and what your eye thinks of them. Your selection, what ever it winds up being will work just fine, you will not make a mistake but if you do, it's a learning experience which may be more valuable than buying the right one in the first place.

I Hope You Do Catch More Or Better Fish Than Me!
I mostly bass fish alone and enjoy it, but I do bass fish with a neighbor, he's a charter tuna/striper captain from N.J., half the time we are BSing and I'm watching him fish, he's new to bass fishing. I'd rather see him catch fish. Even saltwater fishing I'm happy for the other guy catching a good fish. I fish for relaxation, I competed in business for 40 years.

Treble Hook Question
One of the great mysteries of life is what happened to 1 sock in the drier when I put 2 in there, similar mystery befuddled me with sure set hooks. On several occasions xraps with sure set hooks started to run funny in the water, they were perfect from the start. Hooks seemed to be in perfect condition, as an experiment I changed the sure set hook to a traditional treble. Problem was solved, the xraps started to run true again, I have done this several times. I'll buy those xraps again, Dicks likes to put the sure set ones on sale. When I do change trebles I use only VMC 4x saltwater grade even for my freshwater fishing.

I'd be lost without bifocals (progressive lens in my case).

Lifting Bass With The Rod
I watched that video quite a few times.......impressed, honestly not in the least bit. A heavy rod was used was used to land a fish that was only 7 or8#, the fish was spent in a matter of seconds making the lift pretty easy. It's a great looking bass, however if that had been a fish of another species a 7 pounder wouldn't be so easy because there is still a lot of fight left. I'm more impressed with the anglers own personal strength than the technique employed. That fish was power lifted, not sprung up, and I probably would have moved my hand up on the shaft a bit to give it more support, his technique is a recipe for a broken rod...........a net should have been used, springing or lifting fish should be a last resort measure. On the positive side the bass landed very softly in the boat, I'm sure there was no internal damage. I'm with Bassn on the slime issue and if I were overly concerned about the welfare of a fish, I wouldn't be fishing in the first place.
