  1. Look like this ? It's been re done, 2 feet higher now.......no one likes it, especially the railings Bait soakers at the end, casters closer to the beach.snook and tarpon heaven.
  2. Glades, I hope you got out to the surf, the bluefish have been hot, I've never seen it better.
  3. No one is forced to be involved with any social network, each has it's place if you choose to participate. I do use facebook, not everyday, but I check out what';s going. For example I'm a member a FB group that has 100's of members that lived in the "old neighborhood" when were going to elementary and high school. It's great to see what some of these people are up to and what they have done with their lives, many these people now live around the globe, it goes so much deeper than just trivial information. FB links me to items of interest that some forums do not allow. The main difference between BR, other forums and FB is available subject matter and the depth you dive into each topic. Quite true FB has a lot of stupid posts, but so does every other forum I have been on. Jigfisherman is right about FB being more effective in some cases than sending out email.
  4. The important factors in getting a mortgage are your FICO score, which is basically your credit history in a nutshell, and meet the ratio requirements of payments against income. A buyers market means that you can have a favorable negotiation with the seller, a buyers market does not mean a lender is more apt to make a loan, quite the contrary is true as money is tighter today. The main problem with a short sale is getting the original lender to agree to waive the difference between the selling price and the amount owed on the existing owner's mortgage, this can easily take 4 months or more, this is the owner's problem, not the buyer's. If I was in no rush I would be looking at short sales. It's more complicated than this simple explanation, but it's the crux of the situation. I've held a broker or agent license for 40 years.
  5. I love that guy............. I'm going to the OWS rally today, may need someone to bail me out.
  6. He was a great heavyweight, especially for a smaller guy with a short reach ( so was Marciano ), in the all time top 10 depending on who is doing the ranking. Ali, Fazier and Foreman were all epic fights, the Thrilla in Mailla was probably the greatest heavyweight bout ever, my favorite was Al;i vs foreman, the rope a dope. Wern't these fights before pay per view and were on network tv?
  7. Right now there is a lot of seaweed coming in and the wind and surf is heavy, not that it's bad only tough to fish. The forecast looks like things will moderate. Singer Island can good sometimes, blues are happening now and some smaller jacks, snook and tarpon always a possibility. There are some shoals on that beach near Ocean Reef park which is a good spot, with this heavy weather a possibility of muttons on the beach, yes they will hit artificial. I have a friend, fly fisherman, that wades across the street in the ICW ( up by the fire station ) that does really well there, gets some trout, redfish, snook and the bigger jacks are in the ICW.
  8. As I understand it and I could be wrong Paterno did the right thing by reporting but it was swept under the carpet. I have always admired Paterno putting education above athletics.
  9. Nice set up for snook off the beach.
  10. I don't fish piers, been on them twice, once took a walk with out rod at Anglins after dinner and tried to fish lake Worth when opened it, I lasted 5 minutes and I was gone. Piers are way to high for my kind of fishing and heavier tackle is required, they are good for the bait soaker crowd, 40# kingfish have recently been caught at Juno Pier. I fish a jettie, which is quite a bit closer to the water, sadly the Boynton Beach jetties were raised 2', don't fish it nearly as much as I used to. Surf has been so high the north jettie has been closed for several days, we used to have people getting washed over, now they put a railing, we liked it better with no railing.
  11. When I touched it, held it and caressed it, some 20 years later it cost me college tuition for 2, and 2 weddings. I no longer touch anything.........
  12. The surf was crashing in about 10' this morning, I went anyway. Catching bluefish around 6-7# is tough enough on a calm, smooth day, but throw in 25 mph winds, huge groundswell and dragging in 5# of seaweed wrapped around the blue, that's a tough outing. I caught few and left. Went to a nearby brackish canal, one side of the spillway is nothing but bass, the brackish side you just never know. I catch a few very tiny lady fish and see this gigantic fin, so I run back to the car to get a heavier outfit, 20 minutes no fish.......I was ticked. Tried another spot in this canal where I've caught jacks and snook but nothing doing, fished for bass in maybe 4 other locations on my way home, puny fish. Got home and did my twice yearly senko attack, caught some but gotta say, there is nothing I dislike more than fishing with a senko, rather watch paint dry on a barn at midnight.
  13. 92 is a lot of years, somewhere along that line there is a good chance you're gonna get sick. Andy well surpassed the national longevity average. I don't feel sorry for him, he had a good & productive long life, I feel sorry for us, we no longer have him. Retirement kills no one, being idle does. A person like Rooney, even in retirement, is also busy doing something.
  14. Very common practice for grouper and snappers, in those fish the bladder sticks out of their mouth, we call it venting. No need it they are intended to be dinner.
  15. Welcome........... I don't fish piers so I'm no help there, but you can try Government Cut in Biscayne Bay, some real quality fish in that area.
  16. As far as I'm concerned there is no 7# fish in the world that I would fish for in that crowded of an area, I'd look for new water. I've fished Boca Grande, it's a nightmare and I wouldn't do it again.
  17. This is one reason I use a leader instead of braid direct on my lure. It's not unusual when casting lures to get your line or leader wrapped around your hooks, especially top water plugs on the retrieve. A mono or flouro leader is very simple to unravel, braid can really get tangled up bad and not easy to unravel. A quick fix to that is to burn the tangled braid with a bic, then retie. I can come up with other reasons for the use of a leader but they don't really apply to bass fishing. In reality it's a personal choice, I don't think the strike rate is affected.
  18. I'm not an expert on that species, but my my general rule is outgoing tide. I'm going to be out there fishing anyway but if I were to hand pick a situation I would prefer the last of the outgoing tide just after sunrise. Day by day the tide change gets later, less bait shows up and less fish. I do plan my outing locations and target species based on tides, wind direction and more important the fish that are "running", the " hot bite". Just to throw a monkey wrench in, some of my finest fish have been caught when you weren't supposed to catch them.
  19. @ 00Mod, snagged or otherwise that is one impressive fish, one of this years best.
  20. Never stop down here, only the target species change, I'm starting to rev it up now, fish more than I do in the summer.
  21. I've got the med calico jack, I love this rod, it's my main bass rod for canals or weedy water. I did notice they are making a mh now.
  22. All of my freshwater and inshore fishing is done using braided line and a mono leader. My preference is for moving baits, mostly in fairly shallow water so whether line floats or sinks isn't much of a concern. The alberto knot is an excellent knot, but I use it for targeting only one species of fish, one of which will hit a swivel as quick as lure, so the knot does save me money. That aside I use a swivel and a mono leader of about 15", attaching a fresh leader when needed takes a couple of seconds. I attach my braid to swivel using a double wrap improved clinch knot, my leader is attached with an ordinary clinch and my gets a loop knot. I use a 20# leader for my freshwater, reason being is snags, I'm able to free my lures much easier and lose fewer lures than if I used a lighter leader line. The loop knot gives me all the action the lure was intended to have.
  23. Well said ! Recent laws in some states have opened up opportunities of employment in the agricultural and landscaping businesses , no education or resume required. The only prerequisite is a strong work ethic for long hours and low pay.
  24. I snagged ( on purpose ) a Manta Ray about 4' across that was swimming near the shore on the beach. I snagged it using a one ounce red tail hawk, land it, well not quite. After an epic battle with 4000 spinning reel and 15# line, I ran after the fish about a half mile reeling up line to avoid being spooled, the line broke within in a few feet of shore......the fish won.
