  1. I fish on average 7 days a week. Up about 1:00 am, take care of some email and then do my research. I first check out the weather, most interested in tide and wind direction. That tells me what species I'm interested in targeting, my first fishing location and the rods and reels I take with me, usually only 2 and 1 is just for back up, Windy I go with 7 footers and a bit calmer I like 7'6 or 8', hopefully the forecast is NE wind 10-15 mph, with a 2-3' surf or a chop in the ICW, don't care for calm conditions. The wind also predicates my wardrobe of the day, east wind shorts and a t shirt, westerly long pants and long sleeve shirt.......no seeum protection. Kinda blah this morning, 7 mph wind and fairly flat, could be a cuda day.
  2. I remember that old equipment as well. I may still be in the dark ages as I have never used any electronics or trolling motor for bass fishing. I was weened on oars and 6.5hp Elgin ob, I'd have no qualms using that set up today.
  3. Teva Helm 2 boat shoes, now discontinued looking for another brand to match my mistake arch may try a Bass pro with memory foam. Columbia sandals and crocs too.
  4. Haven't posted my outings in awhile as nothing too memorable has happened, did catch 2 tarpon this week which is one of my favorites. Went off shore this morning, motor out to about a 100' of water and within seconds it starts to rain, a torrential downpour that didn't let up. As soon as the first line hits the water fish on and it was nonstop for the next 2 hours, I could only fish 1 rod at time as a fish was always on. We caught kings, bonita , tuna, nothing under 20#, except a few remora. Then within seconds of each other my buddy and I hook fish and were on the verge of both being spooled, at full drag these fish were unstopable. Dale's mono snaps like a thread and my 30# braid gets cut off on the engine....I'm one sore guy right now.
  5. I have never seen Duolocks at Walmart, just inexpensive swivel snaps. I usually look for a deal on Ebay. I use duolocks all the time for freshwater fishing, with leader and I tie an ordinary clinch knot. Failure from lure to snap to leader to mainline is non existent. I've gotten out of the habit of using a snaps for larger fish, I opt for a loopknot to attach my lure off my leader. The loopknot ties quick, even for weak eyes, holds very strong and gives the lure plenty of action. I've had my 40# leaders snapped many times, but can't recall the knot itself failing.
  6. Superior in the classroom? I'll go with Michigan anytime.
  7. Pflueger supreme and Shimano clarus or calico jack, money left over.

  9. I have next no success in bass fish, not that I'm doing much of it, the humidity and gnats have removed my motivation. Bank fishing in my area, both ponds and canals is terrible, like it is every year at this time. There is a world of great fish out there right now to be caught, that's where my attention lies.

I don't care for tatoos......on me. I don't stand in judgement what someone else is doing with their body, I'm not in the least bit bothered by someone's tat.
  11. It ain't whatcha ya know, it's what you can prove, and the prosecution didn't prove the case. It's possible she may get some jail time on the misdeamnor charges, 4 of them and up to a year in jail for each, this is up to the judge and some of the pundits feel the judge was not happy with the verdict. A civil suit is being filed, at present she has no money, but there may book, movie deals out there.
  12. I've never owned a utility vehicle, that said I've owned many heavy duty & med duty commercial trucks spanning over 35 years, both new and used. Often times buying a used vehicle is buying someone else's problem, but I've had some winners too. My advice is not to take anyone's advice as which of the 2 vehicles is better buy, someone's success or failure has no bearing on your situation, too many variables. Lower mileage and a newer used vehicle does not guarantee that's it's better. I'd spend the $$ to have a qualified mechanic check them out, on the surface neither sounds like an exceptional buy. Don't be hasty, there is a always a deal out there. One of the most important factors is the body, parts, engines trans can always be fixed replaced. Rust in my experience is a big no- no, also the frame is in top condition, no prior straitening.
  13. Beautiful...........fish ain't bad either. WTG !!
  14. I have 3 Supremes, good reels and hard to beat in that price range. I even used 1 of them in saltwater for over a year. For freshwater I don't really see the need for the xt.
  15. Freshwater, hardly ever Saltwater often for each reel
  16. Not a one of those I need or use. I get the weather on my computer, tv and car radio, I don't care what the police are doing, always lots of traffic in Florida, I already know how to tie knots, who..t...f is craig guy? The list goes on of useless twaddle that I can do with more ease at home. I think Warren Buffet uses a flip phone, got more action than him? These phones are total brainwash for the average consumer, like we all need to do our online banking on the run. @ Glenn.......I was at a real estate seminar a few months back and one of the agents had a tablet. Presentations looked really nice for their customers to view, I can see the use of a tablet in that occupation. Coffee at Starbucks with a tablet kind go hand in hand, but at Dunkin I'd go with an outdated newspaper, makes sense as I'm still using outdated Power Pro
  17. Using a leader will eliminate any loss of your main line, I never fish without one. Leaders or not boils down to personal preference.
  18. Rule #1 for a beginner, there are no rules. Learn on your own experiences, you may find that's the best teacher of all. For myself I only use spinning gear with braided line and any lure of my choosing. Don't let yourself get confused, there is so much contradictory info out there. Just go fishing, in short order you'll discover what kind of rods, reels, line, etc, suits you, have fun don't make fishing work. Bass fishing is the perfect venue to get yourself interested in fishing, as bass are plentiful, relatively easy to catch, and can be caught on virtually any kind of equipment, live or artificial baits.
  19. In this day and age I can see the use of these phones for certain businesses, but I really think a lot of has to with the brainwashing the phone makers telling people " ya gotta have this". Being retired I no longer deal with clients, the business that I did do was usually done face to face or on the phone. Hard for me to understand why any client wouldn't pick up the phone, I answered all calls, I was interested in making money, but this is a new age....glad I'm not part of. I have a buddy back in Detroit, owns and operates a large scrap yard, customers and contacts all over the country, he still uses a rotary phone.......lol, no kidding.
  20. Membership in social networks, forums and chat rooms have a revolving door, people come and go or choose not to participate for awhile. Whether it's a fishing forum or some other venue I have seen some that have gotten quite emotional and passionate about certain issues.
  21. I recently purchased a smartphone myself and of all the stupid things I've done in life this ranks near the top of the list. I have no complaint with the phone itself, works just fine, but what am I going to use it for? I check the stock market once in a while but that's about it. If I want surf the web or post a message someplace I can wait until I get home and do it in comfort. All I've done is to increase Verizon's revenue and add an additional expense. As my facebook page says............I DON'T TEXT OR TWEET, YOU WANT ME USE THE d**n PHONE!
  22. Simple answer....no Pretty much the only soft plastics I use are fluke type baits, in fact I use them more in saltwater than in fresh. Probably the hardest thing is developing your timing to set the hook when using plastics, not that it is really that hard. One of the first lessons I got over 60 years ago from my dad was to always let the fish "take" the bait and never overwork a lure, has served me well for all species of fish. The hardest part of fishing is finding the fish, not reeling them in.
  23. I fill the entire spool with braid, no backing at all, I use leaders. I do this for freshwater, inshore and offshore fishing.
