  1. I don't think 2 outings of good fishing constitute a honey hole. If this spot does keep producing, that's great, but I don't think you will over fish it, especially if you catch and release. I would add blindfold any fishing pal you take with.
  2. I only use a small reel if I'm fishing open water. The bass is not your problem, it's the vegetation. I'll assume you have a front drag model, not the rear, if I were to stay with the 1000 I would not set my drag to 1/3 of 20# braid which is at your full 7#, I'd use the mono diam spec. I would however if planning on staying with the same line of reel go with 2500, twice the drag and personally I'd use 15# braid, but that's a personal choice, drag my come in handy pulling fish out of weeds. Let me give you a tip on using your drag on any spinning gear. I set my drag only strong enough to set the hook. Some people find it awkward to adjust their drag while fighting a fish, not that it's hard, but either change your rod angle to increase the effective drag, or what I do is simply grab the spool. For me this is a daily practice whether I'm catching bass or any saltwater species.
  3. One thing we an abundance of in Florida is lighting strikes. Lightning is serious business.

  5. Saw it on the bottom right of the home page.
  6. There is more than 1 dense person, I don't see it anyplace.
  7. Tyrius, is it safe to assume you do not collect social security. I do and paid around 14 % of a portion of my income for better than 40 years, I'm one of millions. It may not be the best pension plan, but it is a pension non the less. I consider an investment, albeit not the best I've been involved with. Am I assuming correctly that you may be an employee? If so you contribute about 7% and your employer matches that, does smell a bit like a 401? I guarantee once reach collection of benefits age, you'll view it differently. It's your money and you want it ! Social security was meant to augment people's income after retirement, not be their sole " pension", however for many people it is. At the *** of social security people just did not live as long as they do today, they collected a few years and died, common for people to live well into their 80's and 90's today. On behalf of myself and millions of others I want to thank the medical community for giving me some extra life and I want to especially thank you for helping me to fund it. I just hope you get the same opportunity I have and the generation following will be as benevolent as yours. I want my ******* money ! Don't take me serious, I'm just an old senile man...who has already done what many are aspiring to do.........
  8. Are you saying a retiree for example collecting SS, pension, and investment income in excess of 50, 000 per year would no longer be eligable to collect on the monies the have already invested in the system. Only good I see out of this is kind of term limitations as no Senator or Congressman would get re elected.
  9. This reminds a bit of the SBT(small business tax) I paid in Michigan when I was a D.B.A., I did not care for it. Lund can chime in, he's more familiar as I have been away from it for many years. A company has a gross revenue of say $500, 000 and expenses of 600,000, a company would be paying a tax on a business loss, this scenario is not uncommon. It is not unusual for a small company to lose money, especially when first staring up. Even in bad years many companies need or choose to replace or upgrade equipment, trucks, etc. This would be an unfair tax and IMO would discourage start up businesses, so many businesses whether small or large register losses the first few years, a job killer for sure. In Michigan the tax started somewhere around 300k and up, I understand some changes have been made, there was a of talk to eliminating the tax but I'm not up to speed as I'm a Florida resident now. As far as for individuals it may be ok. The national sales tax I've heard talk of about 23%, seems to me would be a tax raise for many people, I can live with it.
  10. I didn't either until I went to the hemotologist Tuesday, mine are high.
  11. You bet !!!!!!!!!! About 20 years I was paired playing golf with a young man with a cell phone, the phone was constantly ringing. At first I paid little attention but after awhile it got to be annoying. As we were driving down the fairway the phone rings once again, I calmly reached for the phone as I wanted to see if I could throw it as far as hardball, I failed but still managed to hit a nearby pond. We had quiet for the remainder of the round.
  12. Interesting selection of a name, a nanophil is a type of a white blood cell.
  13. I would go to my supervisor and mention the music is disruptive. IMO the workplace is no place for music, phones or any other electronic contraption.
  14. Floating a bucktail in current is like working a fly......
  15. I fish with a guy name Stu Tinney, he's in the fishing hall of fame. He's in the hall of fame for being a writer not a fisherman, however is a pretty good fisherman, especially after i taught him how to catch snook
  16. i fish an area with some very heavy current, not a waters level but from a sea wall 4-5' high. When the current isn't too bad most any hard jerkbait works fine but when the current is raging that's when I use 1/2 oz bucktails or a jerk shad on a 1/4 oz jig head. Fish always come right to the top if they want it, when the current is strong a lure bounces too much. I fish this spot nearly every morning, this is my #1 most product area.
  17. My explanation is pale in comparison to Lund's, he's a tax professional and I'm only a retired "junk dealer", if I read him correctly he feels more income is needed, not saying fiscal responsibility isn't important. "Taxes are the cost of citizenship.", I've heard this quote before, I don't think anyone has any doubt where I stand. I can't be convinced that spending cuts alone without tax increases will make a meaningful difference.
  18. Are these statistics regarding individual rates inaccurate? http://ntu.org/tax-basics/history-of-federal-individual-1.html The lowest rates since harry Truman. Just look at the state of the economy in the last 10 years, lower tax rate with generous deductions, unemployment rising, treasury dwindling, just not enough income generated. Previous years, higher tax rates, better employment numbers and a surplus, enough $$ was generated. In fact in those years many employers had to offer higher starting salaries and signing bonuses. we had nafta and jobs were going offshore then too, yet the economy was good. The gravy train ended with the Clinton era. Bush said " read my lips"........you know what happened, he had to raise taxes. Reagan lowered taxes and saw unemployment jump from 7 to over 10%. I understand no wants to pay more, myself included, but I think it's needed. I'm not convinced that middleclass taxes need to remain at current levels, but I'll go with it, but taxes to the rich must be raised. IMO most people are basing their opinions on their own desires, I'm pretty sure history proves higher taxes are better for the overall health of the country. I did it since 73, paying fed, state and local income tax, also paid them for business as well. Paid not only my full ss but 1/2 of my employees, their workmans comp, and so many other hidden taxes, not to mention healthcare too, and there was money left over for savings, amazing how that worked. During recession years I took out of my pocket to keep the business running, I never laid off anyone. People that are working today are whining with a loaf of bread under their arm, we got a cheap deal in this country.
  19. I don't the the fish care one way or the other. I use green PP and mostly fish in the dark, no problems for me. I do have 1 reel I use offshore with yellow PP for daytime use, I just like the way it looks on the reel.
  20. I like strong current, windy weather and choppy water.
  21. Maybe I'm just an old fart, but why would anyone need to record information and take a photo of say a 15" fish. I'm only interested in the spectacular fish I catch, believe me I remember everything I need to know.about when, where and I how I caught it. Personally speaking when I'm fishing I don't want to be bothered, I just wanna fish,,,,,,,,,,,the time you take took log that info, may have cost you the fish of your life, but you'll never know. As far as a knot app, if you don't know the right knots before you get out there, you're not ready to fish, Bass Resource will give you any knot you need to know before hand.
  22. I'll stick to policy and facts, not politics, I rant on other forums both pro and con regarding elected officials, but not here. I wont favor or discredit any party or politician. People have been led to believe that taxes are high in this country, actually they have been the lowest in about 50 years, true 47% of Americans pay no federal income tax. Even at the older tax rate and better employment the amount of federal revenue has been getting less and less. Corporations say they pay too much 35%, reality after deductions they average about 16%, GE paid zero. Most of the largest times of growth have been when taxes were high, like in the 50's. I'm not new taxes, been paying federal, state and local both personal and business since 1973 until my retirement, I know what is to pay higher taxes. All that said I'm in the camp who believe more income to the government in both higher taxes and income thru more jobs is the answer. Late 90's higher tax rate, more employed = surplus, 2001 thru now, lower taxes, less employed, less revenue = deficit. True 2 wars, internet bubble, real estate bubble, and 8 years of spending. Blame can be put in a number of places and people, but this isn't the pace to do it.
  23. Comparing fishing reels to autos is not a real comparison of quality control, cars just have so many more parts. I've been on the floor of hundreds, if not thousands, of American plants, mostly auto related. With what I've seen I would not hesitate to say that higher wages will not guarantee better quality control and a better product. U.S. auto makers lost market due to the simple fact that there are other products where quality is as good if not better at a cheaper price. Some of the price issue has due with other countries have a national healthcare system and American cars the healthcare of workers is built into the overall price...........that's another topic. My wife has had 4 Japanese autos, not a one needed to go back to the dealer after purchase because something was wrong with the car, all were perfect. I'm driving a Genesis now, car has been perfect since day one and still is, compares to any BMW or MB that I've owned, and surpasses any Lincoln or Cadillac that I've had, being involved in American industry driving American cars was a must. In all fairness I'm talking Japanese and Korean, not Chinese, but again it's a fishing reel with a minimum of parts and no safety issues, not a car.
  24. Quite a few choices. Like Chris I fish nothing but spinning and I have found a couple of sleepers that fit the bill reasonably priced. On the real cheap is a Shimano soujourn( freshwater rod) both a 10/20 and 25lb class available, I have the 25# and it's my main barracuda rod, been using it 3 years...........29.95. Quantum blue runner, 25# class rod, I was using this rod for kingfish and bonita, handled them with ease..........$49.00 Star stellar lite, 25#, great blank and it's used for kings and bonita, cobia, $129, returned the blue runner for this, in hind site I liked the blue runner better, I will buy another when the need arises. The only reason I'm not using a Hurricane redbone is that size is not offered, they do make a 15-30 which is awesome but with a lighter lure rating. So many people that have seen me using my redbones are now using them in favor of some of the other top names they had.
  25. It's the quality of parts and engineering, assembly can be done anywhere. Cars have thousands of parts, reels have very few in comparison.
