I hope no one argues against the much needed infrastructure rebuilding.

No Luck At Lox
I'm leaving in the next 30 minutes I want the last of the outgoing tide. Hope the water isn't too low on the north side, if so the south beach has plenty of water with a good drop off, not as many snook but they can be bigger there. I'll find you.

Modified Improved Clinch???
That knot almost looks like a doubled over loopknot pulled all the way down so there is no loop. It may be strong but a double clinch knot tied correctly is strong enough to handle Moby Dick. Even ocean offshore I mostly use plain clinch,

Big Decisions
If it were me I'd go with spinning gear and braided line, 15# would be good to handle anything. You can easily do this in your price range, b/c equipment is a bit more expensive. Getting into a debate on one brand over another gets to be a popularity contest, many very decent reels for $60 and rods for $50.

How Is This Possible?
I started driving in 1961, believe me when the streets were flooded there were stalled cars all over the place, the older cars were no better under those conditions. From a technological standpoint cars are far better today than they were 30 or 40 years ago, stronger and safer in accidents. Many more convenience features, simple ones like a/c and, power door locks and windows, even fm radio, and so many more we take for granted. The mileage today is at least double over the cars in the 70's.....inflation adjusted gas in the 70's would be over $3.00 a gallon, so you are getting better bang for your buck today. Now I know someone gonna say how bad there mileage is on some 1 ton pickup utility vehicle, without fuel injection you would really be crying. In addition to my big rigs I had med duty(30,000#gvw) gas trucks as well, they got 2-4 mpg, once fuel injection was offered the mileage jumped up to 6-7 mpg.

No Luck At Lox
The slots shut down for sure, lol I'll probably stop by an ICW spot before I get to the inlet at around 4 am , fish the south jettie for an hour on the incoming see if maybe any tarpon are around, they love the fast current. Then I'll hit the beach, probably on the north side, good snook hole there.

No Luck At Lox
It was hot this morning. I hit the beach at 4:45 am and didn't wait too long, like my first cast. I went thru entire bag (12) of DOA jerk shads, must have caught around 100# of snook and 30 pounds of tarpon. I was out of bait, went back to my car to get a windcheater and caught several more off the jettie.

When we first thought Irene would hit Florida, we prepared as we remembered what we went thru with Wilma, very glad it did not pan out and Florida was skipped over. Getting ready was not difficult and any expense occurred were on items we will use anyway. The Government agencies are only covering their ***, I appreciate it and keep it coming. My concern is to keep my family as safe as possible, if others are cavalier, so be it. Simple remedy to media coverage is just change the station.

Braided Line With Flouro/mono Leader
I always use a leader with braid ( mono too), I don't tie I use swivels and my leaders are about 15-18". I seldom change leaders for freshwater as I use duolocks but for saltwater I tie my lures so I may replace my leader a few times in an outing. Totally gave up on floro leaders, didn't see my strike ratio any better.

Yozuri Hybrid Breaking At Knot
I only use mono or copoly for 2 applications, I'm not fussy on brand. At present I use 12# original stren on my cuda outfit and 20# pline floroclear on my conventional trolling/drift offshore outfit, let's just say the fish get sizable. Only knot I use is an ordinary clinch knot, I may get cut off, but knots always hold and line doesn't break, providing the knot is tied correctly and the line is in good condition. Everything else is braid only 15 or 20#, again nothing but an ordinary clinch and as loop knot to the lure. To be honest everyone I see in the brine does pretty much the same as me. I do nothing different in freshwater except use lighter lines, in fact I've had the same leader with the same knot on a few rigs that get used often without any failure. I don't even know how to tie a palomar and really have no use for it.

The hurricane may only be a storm once in reaches New England but that does not diminish the chance of power being down, fallen trees, debris flying around at 60 or 70 mph, tap water being unfit for use and flooding due to heavy rain and already saturated ground. In NYC the power will be shut down in some areas even though the wires are underground, flooding may be a problem, so if you live on the 20 th floor of a building, no elevator, not bad going down but walking back up is a *****. From personal experience when Wilma hit Palm Beach County, power out for nearly a week, no traffic lights operating and debris all over the roadways. No cell phones for quite a few days and no land phone for about 3-4 weeks. No gas for our cars as most gas stations did not have generators to operate the pumps, atm's were out for a while too. Food to buy was scarce and no bottled water to be found. Given all the information that's out there only a fool wouldn't be prepared. And if not prepared and some hardship does happen, don't whine about it, you had warning. If by chance one comes out unscathed, just consider yourself fortunate. We take them serious here in Florida and the gulf states.

Disabled Fisherman
Not knowing your age and level of your disability it's difficult for a non professional to recommend a course of action. How fat is fat, 10#-20#- 50# or more? Unless one is genetically predisposed to obesity weight loss can be obtained. Shedding some weight will give you more energy, may possibly ease up on some of your limitations and without doubt give you more self confidence to do things you may be avoiding now. Being 66 myself I'm not the guy I was when I was 21, I know my limitations, staying reasonably fit does add to the quality of my life.

Oil For Reels
I don't use oil , I use corrosion block. 1 Small container has lasted me about 3 years and have plenty left, does a great job, cost about $8.00.

The intensity of the hurricane will diminish some due the the water temperature dropping the further north you go. However I go with the professional advice, the safety of my family far outweighs any gut feeling I may have, being in Florida I have experienced hurricanes and they ain't fun. What is import is tide, damage is much more severe during high incoming tide as compared to low outgoing. Even a small hurricane in heavy populated areas like NYC are problematic, these people have a hard time getting out even if they wanted too, many don't have cars and as reported there is only a 1 day food supply there. I don't remember the numbers, but damage forecast in dollars range from a few hundred million in NC to as high as 5 billion in Mass., higher values in the north. I would never let years of being lucky sway my opinion, it takes but 1 mistake in judgement to be sorry for the rest of your life.

Spoons
I really never met a spoon I didn't like, as far as the ability to catch fish. Some spoons cast better in windy conditions, others fish better in weedier conditions like a j-spoon. I catch pretty much equal numbers of fish on whatever spoon I'm using, I mostly use generic spoons that are about 3 bux( very similar to krocs), I have high rate of loss as many of our species here cut you off and wire does curtail the bite.

No Luck At Lox
I thought the fishing would red hot but it wasn't. This storm came in on the incoming tide (we got a few tarpon) and it did not push in too much bait. I fished the beach a few times, but it was tough, 1 day the incoming seaweed made fishing near impossible and the last 2 days the incoming surf was surging very high, probably a 35 yd cast just to reach the water, only viable lure was a spoon. The snook should have been there with this ground swell but they weren't. I am finding some in the ICW and the inlet, but the incoming tide makes it a bit tougher. I did see some nice mutton being caught, about 25". I'm a die hard, I'll be back out again in a couple of hours, I'll be heading north to a great fishing beach first part of next week. http://www.wpbf.com/...il.html?taf=wpb I was out there before that episode happened, it was closed yesterday.

Help Choosing Pflueger Supreme Xt Size
I have the 25, 30, and 35. If it were me I'd go with 35, it's still pretty light, holds plenty of line and you can catch a variety of fish with it. The 35 has a max drag pressure of 12# which is on a par with most 2000 series reels( not that you would ever set the drag that high), imo the perfect size for an all around bass reel, btw I use straight braid, never backing. I used my 35 over a year fishing for snook, before switching it to a freshwater reel. I'm considering buying a size 40 one of these days.

No Luck At Lox
It's always slow in the summer for bass. An old Florida saying " when the bass slow down the snook pick up", something is always biting down here. Why get frustrated when satisfaction is within your grasp. .......drive as far east as possible, then wet a line.

Great Weather
We had a late tide yesterday morning and lived up to it's reputation, no bait, no fish. I was chomping at the bit to fish the last of the incoming tide as that can be productive for tarpon. Got to the inlet at 2:30 am, fished for a couple of hours and no hit, finally at about 5;00 this juvie tarpon nails my DOA jerk shad, and a perfect Palm Beach release. Sun comes up, tide is going out and still no bait and no fish, I was really surprised with the outer bands of Irene making it's presence. One of my home boys nets a few croakers so i say what the f**k and baited about 8 incher on a 4/0 circle hook and free lined it. Just below me with my bait swimming near the surface this huge snook comes up from no place and inhales this croaker, well fish on. Cutting to the chase, after a real quality battle I send this young kid down near the pylons to release this nice lady, we all thought that this fish was in the 30# range. It's 12:30 am and I'm getting ready to head out there again right now.

South Florida Freshwater Fishing To An Immediate Hault!
The places I fish for bass have been very slow since about June. I could dead stick and catch something but I don't as I'm not fond of that fishing technique. I'm putting in little time bass fishing now.

Ski Fishing
That's a fact and both are very elusive to catch.

Shimano Clarus
I have the 6'6 6/12 spinning clarus with a supreme 30, I use it mainly for pond fishing with any kind of technique I desire. Sometimes for a change of pace I take this little outfit beach fishing for smaller jacks, bluefish or snook, the rod handles them beautifully. I would limit the rod to open water fishing, heavy weeds may pose a problem.
