  1. If my wife wanted to go with me at 3 am she's welcome.............lol fat chance of that ever happening. She whizzes too much, gets an acute case of mal de mer, has no patience, I'm better off with her staying at home..
  2. Don't need a thing, but there a couple of items I want to buy and some items I don't care for and want to replace. Don't like my star stellar lite 25lb rod has a soron 60 on it, replace my star handicraft for my Avet, good rod, just want a little stronger one. 9 wt and and a new reel, one of the guys here is a designer for Tibor, may i can get a deal. I've bought 3 really nice outfits this year so I'll probably just step back.
  3. Pre opening equity index futures
  4. Really nice fish.............I use soft plastic flukes for my snook and tarpon, great beach bait.
  5. If I were a guide and my livelyhood depended on finding fish, that's where I would take my clients. As a recreational fisherman, catching fish is a byproduct of my total experience. I enjoy seeing new sights, meeting new people, eating at new restaurants and in the process just may make a discovery. Going to the same place day after day can get boring even if your catching great fish. Catching a fish is not life or death for me, it's a recreational endeavor.
  6. Poppers are my choice of top water baits. At hook replacement I like to go 1 step larger than original and I prefer 4x, brand is not a paramount concern. Same goes if I need to replace hooks on a jerkbait or spoon, I really like a mirror top dog, I mainly use it in saltwater but is just as effective on LMB, comes with good hooks too.
  7. My preference is white (or very light), hard or soft, day or night, fresh or salt.
  8. It does solve the issue. I use a fairly short leader, 15" or so, there is no noticeable stretch to a leader that short. I get solid hooksets and distance is not a problem, however over the years I do not put as much importance on distance as I once did. I would never use mono or copoly or anything that feels like a long elastic band.
  9. I have some Shimano equipment I like a lot, also some Shimano equipment that I really don't care for. Of the Shimano gear that I do like I own other manufacturers gear that compete toe to toe with Shimano. No posse here, I'm willing to try anything.
  10. I tested with several of my own pics, google mapped it probably no more than 10'. On my smart phone (camera settings) I can disable storing the location of the photo so the gps does not appear anywhere, I tested that as well. I have read some of the newer cameras, no phone, have the ability to store your gps location as well, mine is not new enough, but all of the exif info is available.
  11. I worded that wrong. I meant the entire rod turns and twists as the fish is fighting, hard to hold it steady
  12. How did fish manage themselves before man ever fished?
  13. No logs. Fishing so often and for so long I have a pretty good idea of my target species. I use few baits, so remembering what I caught my significant fish on comes easy, the small ones do't matter to me. I understand how the seasons and tides affect my targets, I know exactly what I'm fishing for based on the marine forecast. What I did last year has no bearing on what's going on this year, conditions are never the same, the fish come and go on their own timetable. Day to day is never the same, I went out caught about 20 5-8 # fish, same place same time next day got 1. Keeping a log for me serves no real purpose, what I don't know I can easily find on the internet before my outing.
  14. I like trying different places, even if I killed them yesterday good chance today I'm going to entirely new area.
  15. Being in Florida I miss eating perch, no markets sell them here and never have seen it on a menu. When I was a kid I used to take the bus to the Detroit Free Press dock and catch perch to bring home for dinner. My dad owned a fish market, all the perch we wanted, but wasn't as much fun as catching them myself.
  16. I can see the desire to use b/c for catching bass, however it has little interest for me. I avoid the conditions as much as possible where I need a rod with more backbone to pull fish out timber or vegetation. I do own 1 b/c, Avet mxj for drifting and trolling, for offshore fishing, the same size rod has more backbone than my spinning but I do not like the way the reel twists on top with larger fish. I use spinning 100% of the time for all my freshwater and inshore saltwater fishing. Where I fish spinning has the popularity, probably 100-1, last guy I saw with b/c was Bassn Blvd., I don't see more than 2 or 3 bait casters in an entire year of fishing.
  17. This topic has been getting some buzz lately regarding posting pics from smartphones on line to a site like photobucket. The location of photo becomes public knowledge, good reason to disable gps feature for photos.
  18. Growing up in Detroit we lived minutes from Canada, so many times we fished the Canadian side of Lake St Clair and Lake Erie, I always thought the fishing was better and much cleaner over there. I have made a number of trips to more northernly Canadian destinations, excellent fishing, beautiful lakes and some of the most friendly people I have encountered, I just love Canada.
  19. I fish very early in the morning so the chance of my wife calling is slim, she's sleeping, during the day she would not call unless it was very important. In the days when I played golf, every Sunday morning this guy I played with was constantly being plagued by his wife's phone calls. She would call as early as on the second tee, " when ya coming home?", we teed off at 7 to 7:30 am too. He got so ticked one day he just flung his phone into a nearby pond while she was still talking, HA HA. By professional he was psychiatrist, but on his 4 th marriage, I don't think either one of them were wrapped real tight.
  20. My soft bait fishing is done only when I'm foot, I only use fluke type baits. I just carry the bag they came in in my pocket, with a few xtra hooks or jigs heads.
  21. Circle hooks are great, but not for all species. I fish cut or live bait offshore quite a bit, hookup ratio is low with toothy creatures, shank is too short resulting in more cut offs than hookups. For non toothy critters and small toothed ones circles are hard to beat.
  22. Nice to see a peacock in lake Ida
  23. Hard to settle on 1 but Australia or New Zealand would not be a bad choices. Lots of avid fisherman, tackle can easily be bought and many types of species to target, fresh and saltwater.
  24. I and many other Floridians see this almost daily and I'm sure it's common everywhere. Even before the economy turned sour but more so today we see people fishing for food. These people are not fishing with the highest tech equipment, have no idea of lures that cost more than 10 bucks. These people are using equipment barely a step up from a cane pole and many are still using that pole. We see them along the canals by the side of the road fishing for bass or whatever is munching on their leaf worms. We see them in the ICW or at the ocean with bag of frozen shrimp and a rusty hook taking home whatever is biting that day, they aren't fussy, just hungry and need to feed their families. These people don't have the $11 for a bag of fish at the market. At one time I was high and mighty regarding letting fish go but over the years I've tempered that position. Doesn't bother me in the least bit to see a large bass or any other fish species taken home for dinner. Their fish , their business.
  25. American competitors often put money over patriotism. Whether top American's would outfish competitors from other countries is a moot point, don't know until the top competitors actually compete. A number of years some America professional golfers wanted to get paid for events like the Ryder cup. The Europeans seem to put the competition above that of the Americans, play as a team and are winning more often now. Same can be said for World Cup team play, Americans dominated for years, but no longer is the case, the USA hasn't won since 2000, Duval and Woods. Why would a fishing competition be any different, there are good fisherman all over the world.
