Compared to some of these younger fellows I'm a novice shaver, I've only been doing it over 50 years. Nothing compares to a straight razor for closeness, but I preferred my first Gillette safety razor I got in 1960, extremely close shave, but being nick free was a task with those blades. I have been using disposables for many years, getting good shaves that suit my needs, the big plus is never a cut or nick.
  2. A computer purchased from Walmart is not an issue, they don't make them. I'd have no qualms in buying one from them if they carried the brand and model I wanted, but you are on your own as they have no tech help there. They may or may not stock a computer that fits your needs. I would suggest doing you're homework, as you should in buying any high lines equipment, know what you want and look for a deal. I generally buy direct on line from the manufacture and have been very pleased with prices I have paid. There are scores of articles about most computer companies and the products they offer, note those guys are professionals in that area and I'm not.
  3. Been catching some quality snook ( kingfish too yesterday morning) the last couple of weeks. I wanted to stay close to home this morning, been putting on a lot of miles, so I hit my "home" fishing spot. Pretty dead, no hit from 4:am, then at 6:00 I hit the beach and too much wind to cast out to hit water, fished it a few minutes and went to the jettie. As soon as I got there I knew the snook would be on, and they were. Funny how this happens, (bass tarpon and other species too) either they all run small or they run big. Jettie is probably 8- 10 ft above the water with maybea a 3 foot swell coming in, I like.............. I tied on a 3/4 oz bucktail , a few taps then nail a 27" snook, then another about the same size. Still fishing along side the jettie I pull out 2 more that went 33". Now I'm a little bored and need to do something else, maybe some bluefishing coming in. I tie on a 1 oz storm chugger and toss it towards the beach in a few feet of water, as I always say never over work a bait, well basically the waves were just pushing around this piece of wood with a couple of trebles hanging on the bottom and I get smashed. After a real fine battle, the fish is just too big to " spring up" as I did with the others. One of my homeboys takes out his weight treble and lifts her by the gills, she swam away just fine. As a rule I never weigh or measure but it's snook season so I needed to if it's slot, she went 37 inches.......... All caught med 7'6 redbone spinning rod, abu soron 4000, 15# PP.
  4. I haven't bass fished since March, last few big ones I stuck were on a Rebel popper.
  5. I don't think it's necessary to lube braided line to tie a knot. I pull both the main and tag lines at the same time, not too fast, using an ordinary clinch knot, when targeting bigger species improved double wrapped clinch. For me it's 10# braid freshwater and 15 or 20# braid saltwater. I'm happy with any brand on sale.............
  6. I'd rather catch the pike, nice fish.
  7. Definitely up for that !
  8. I prefer fishing alone, the real only downside is many of the fish I catch are just too big to pull over a seawall, those are the times when I could use some help, beaches are no problem.
  9. I was on my way to Hobe Sound yesterday morning, decided to stop by the ICW on my at about 3:30 am. There was quite a bit of bait and snook were busting, FYI that makes fishing harder when using artis. I casted for about 45 minutes without a tap, I then get snagged and lost my entire setup. Walked back to car and instead re rigging I took out a lighter rod, 7'6 med spinning and put an xrap on. By now the bait was starring to thin out and less fish were busting, conditions I prefer, after no more than 6 casts I hook an over slot, couldn't lift this fish'es head out of the water so I managed to guide it an area next to the sea wall where I could beach her. My guestimate would be 14-18#, a nice ICW snook. Now the bite was slowing down and and the no seeums were picking up so I trekked up to Hobe Sound, gotta admit I was disappointed. A couple of snook taps, but that was it until the sun came up, an now I'm getting hit on every cast but I can't hook one, finally I bring one in and it was a tiny ladyfish, small ladyfish are very hard to hook so I wasn't surprised. The lady fish cleared the area and bluefish came in, very small but give a great fight on light tackle. Going offshore 7:00 am this morning, as I have the outgoing I will most likely hit the ICW before meeting my partner.
  10. Agree with Clayton................I see no reason to over complicate bank fishing. Satisfying your curiosity is one thing, I doubt your fishing will improve. Reading the water, birds, wind imo will go much further in having a successful outing. Doesn't make much difference what the water temp is if there are no fish in the area.
  11. Ziplock bag, and stays in my pocket. I don't put anything of value into my tackle bag when I'm going offshore. It only takes 1 stroke of bad luck to ruin your day, like maybe the bag bouncing overboard in 5' waves. Water, especially saltwater will wreck your key remote, I've done it a few times and they are expensive to replace.
  12. I use a good sized fanny pack (my inshore tackle bag), my lures are kept in theses boxes, I use size 003 http://www.jannsnetcraft.com/polybags-boxes/371111.aspx, I put 2-4 lures per box and 5-6 boxes fit. Each box is segrated, spoons, jigs, etc. My fanny has room in a seconds compartment for swivels, leader line, hooks and sinkers. Been doing this 6 years, best system for me I ever used.
  13. Don't see them too often in Florida, as like other states the FWC is under staffed. Personally have never had a problem, but have seen people that have............taking snook that wasn't slot. The few I have encountered have been courteous and professional. Games Wardens are much like customs officers at an international border, they can sense a problem just by a person's body language.
  14. I would follow Catt's suggestions, exactly the way I would fish that area....................but spinning for me of couurse, lol.
  15. See what feels best on your rod, which handle is comfortable when retrieving, most reels in the 60-100 range will perform fine, don't get hung up on brand.
  16. The curse article was great. Some of what the article failed to mention was a chance of hiring Don Shula as head coach, it was the lions decision not to hire him. All those losses to the Vikings and in so many cases the Lions had beaten the crap out of Minnesota all day long only to lose in the last few seconds. Terrible injuries, was it Reggie Brown linebacker( can't really remember the name), paralyzed and the death on field of Chuck Hughes. We in Detroit are well aware of the curse.
  17. I'm ordering super bowl tickets....................haha, that's if 8-8 is good enough.
  18. Prior to the Ford family ownership the Lions were owned by Buddy Parker, the team had some excellent years, including a championship. Legend has it Parker sold the team as some of it's players were gambler's (Karas) and big time drinkers in public, most notably Bobby Layne, Parker hated drinking, so the team was eventually sold. At the time Bobby Layne was considered one of the very best last 2 minute QB's in the league, some say he never played sober. During that era of football, players generally had off season jobs, Layne owned a collision shop on Wyoming near puritan, down the street form dad's place. Layne was a fisherman, my dad and I went with him a few times, case of beer always on the seat next to him................lol
  19. Trying to have a conversation with this teacher is like a cattleman trying to make a point at sheepherders convention, he can't win, nor can you. He may or may not be right about pain, personally I think they do, but that does not detour me from fishing. This teacher has but 1 objective, to educate you in the classroom about chemistry, discussions about fishing shouldn't even be on the radar screen. You didn't get stuck with him, he got stuck with you.

Don't use a sinker. 30# braid IMO is way too heavy for light rod. I'd go with 10-, 15# max, I use 6'6 rod it and can cast quite far.
  21. It was a funny drift, it was fine for 1 oz, when I switched to 2 oz I was under the boat, but no where near bottom, I didn't care for it. I won't fish anything heavier than a 3 oz and I don't much like that. I'm looking for bigger fish in higher in the water column, if I wanted 2# fish I can catch bass in my backyard.
  22. I don't over rate myself or under estimate a person who I may have a confrontation with, there is always some one bigger and badder and that might just be the guy. Pitching sinkers or throwing anchors more than likely will putting you in the legal wrong, I don't think it's worth the hassle, fish elsewhere.
  23. I don't encounter that problem fishing freshwater in Florida, but saltwater is another matter. I have dislike for bait fisherman from beach or pier, fishing many lines, taking up lots of space, crowding the casters out, and those d**n cast nets. I just leave and find another area to fish.
  24. It was dead, I caught 1 snapper and that was it. My guys caught quite a few bottom fish but I don't do chicken rigs with 8 oz of weight. Going offshore and catching 1-2# fish is not what I call exciting. I wound up casting a spoon for a few hours which is really very unproductive out there and it was.
  25. I only said I would handled the situation differently. Just like the co angler I would not have allowed cheating to occur. Unlike the co angler I would have said nothing, not wanting to blacken Wellman's name. My personality would have taken the suggestion as joke and laughed along with Wellman. BASS levied a very small penalty and still awarded 50k, could be they thought this was a trivial matter, after reading the article I did for sure. Since no cheating actually took place I would have not made an issue. Wellman has to been convicted with out any hard evidence, only on a statement from one person. The apology came after the issue was put to rest, what else could Wellman do? I'm holding fast on my opinion, I'd no more tell than I would on someone going 5 mph over the speed limit.
