  1. I'm not saying this co angler is wrong, I'm saying that I would have handled the situation differently. This was a simple error in judgement nothing more, true it should not have happened in the first place. When most people get stopped for speeding or running a red light and get off with a warning, they thank the police officer and consider themselves lucky. Wellman deserved a break IMO, I see this less serious than a routine traffic violation, hey no lives at risk. "To err is human, to forgive divine."
  2. There is a difference between any line and it's leader counterpart. Leaders are more abrasion resistant and imo stiffer. The only time I use a floro leader is offshore fishing, but have pretty much gotten away from it as I don't see any more strikes than from a traditional leader. Offshore I always use leader material. Inshore I just cut my leaders from Ande or Big Game and freshwater I use 20# leftover pline floroclear. My freshwater leaders are heavier than most people use but using a loopknot there is no compromise in lure action and I save a lot lures on snags by using a heavier leader.
  3. Very cool !.......I miss those peacocks too, caught many brackish snook but I have never caught a freshie.
  4. I've coming down to Florida for 30 years, been here full time the last 7, this has been the most disappointing year of fishing I have experienced. Hard to catch even blue runners on artificial this year. Bassn' has the right ticket, live bait is the way to go to improve your chances, especially for a slot. Going offshore again today, this time time off Singer island, weather forceast looks decent, we'll see, I enabled my GPS, if I get a nice Cobia you'll know where I caught it, lol.
  5. I don't want to get into a brand war, but for a $100, way less on closeout, the floog supreme is unbeatable. I'm a spinning guy and own most major names, my stradics and I love them do not cast an inch further than my floogs, sorons, penns, daiwa or anything else, the rod is where the distance comes from and I think distance is over rated anyway. Getting back to the supreme, I own 3, my 35 was used for snook in saltwater for over a year with no wear it's still like new. If that reel can easily handle my 10-15# snook, the LMB hasn't been born that reel can't handle.
  6. IMO cleaning a spinning reel every 3 weeks for freshwater is overkill. I fish mine 12 months a year and only give them a shot of corosion block maybe 2 times a year, they work like new and never have been serviced. Salt water spinners don't get much more attention and they are fished hard and in harsh conditions. I use supremes for my freshwater, any 60 -100 reel should be fine, I don't see a significant difference in that price range, all work good.
  7. Those guys have never been to Detroit..........hahaha
  8. I don't tell you the days when I don't catch them, like today lol. That's a great one in your avatar! Without being there I'm willing to bet that fish was caught on bait, imo this time of year it is not that hard to catch those big slobs using bait, I see it done quite often. I strictly use artificial and this has been a very difficult year for them, my numbers and sizes are not as good as last year. Beach production is dismal, I even went up to Hobe Sound and didn't do all that great, I'm hearing the same thing from many snook fisherman I know. If you can catch bass you can catch snook, there isn't that much difference. Like bass fishing one needs to know how and when snook feed, and where they should be. I prefer the outgoing tide, even on the beach, snook like dirty water, fast current. They are lazy, they swim thru bait and just inhale, hopefully they inhale yours. There are always exceptions, I've caught great fish when the conditions were not favorable, that said outgoing tide in ICW or an inlet, tide is less important on the beach. Cast side to side on the beach in a few feet of water, they like the trough, if the water is flat your chances are reduced. Any lure will do, soft plastics on jig heads, spoons, hard jerk baits and bucktails, topwater don't seem to produce as well for me, but people do use them. Be patient, the windier and rougher the water the better snook fishing should be, our weather has been clam this year. Mullet run is happening soon, Juno will be on fire ( I'm sure I'll be up there, but not on the pier), if using live bait, try cutting one of the fins or tail fin, isolates them from the rest of the school.
  9. Any person is entitled to their opinion of right and wrong regarding this situation. If one feels that they have taken the right action, well that's the end of it. After really thinking about this and reading an article regarding "the scandal", I would without doubt have taken a different path. I understand even a suggestion is against the rules, the governing body did not disqualify, still allowed him to win, did not reduce prize money, gave him a small fine of $2500, and probation for year, which really means " watch your step". It my mind it doesn't appear that the governing body took it all that serious, after all there was no serious penalty. Had a bribe been offered to me, given my nature which is easy going and never uptight, I would rejected the offer with my own chuckle, whether he was joking or not. I then would give the professional fisherman the tongue lashing of his life, I'd make him feel lower than bass crap at the bottom of Lake Erie and warn him not to try it again, I think that's punishment enough, but to report the incident is something I would never do. I don' know how Wellman's fans, sponsors and other professionals react this infraction, but I would not want to be responsible for anything negative. I'm speaking only from my own experience, been offered bribes and kickbacks in business far exceeding this small amount of money, turned them down but never jeopardized a person position, having some one get fired was something I could not live with, that's how I view integrity. For me a simple no thanks is sufficient. As I original said if a person feels comfortable in telling, so be it.
  10. As discussed in a recent post fishing can be a blood activity, somewhere along the line a fish will be injured and stressed. I can't get overly emotional about any mishap to any fish, it's just part of it.
  11. Majority of my fishing is done from shore, whether it be freshwater, salt beach or ICW I seldom change baits. During my freshwater outings I fish 1 rod with an extra lure in pocket and pack of flukes and a hook or 2 in case the conditions dictate being weedless. Fishing saltwater from shore there is generally a window of opportunity which may last from a couple of minutes to 60 minutes if you're lucky, usually fish only 1 lure, a few back ups with me in case of cutoffs.
  12. Get your slot? I've caught those lady fish in water less than 6", practically on the sand. They hit anything, but will destroy any lure, I mostly fish spoons for them. A 5 pound ladyfish feels like a 20 pounder, pulls drag out like a bonefish and jump like a tarpon.
  13. I can't speak directly about a Kia but I own a Hyundai Genesis, another Korean brand. Without question the Genesis is one of the best cars I have owned, not a bit of problem. With no reservation I can compare it to any MB or BMW I have owned in the past and it far out distanced all of my Lincoln and Caddys, I'd buy another, I like every car in their lineup. The Equis does not come with a manual, they include an Ipad instead.
  14. You have a nightmare going on.................GOOD LUCK !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  15. The Rapalas at Walmart are the same as anywhere else, at least the ones at the Walmart I shop at, I'd be surprised if the same hooks were made special for Walmart. Certain rods and reels are made exclusive for Walmart that are not available other places, but it could be just a different model name being used for an existing item.
  16. Hot, humid, no wind and a slow drift but managed to get some yellowtail, big rainbow runners and some kings, about 15 pounders. Glad I fished an inshore outfit rather than a boat rod, kings were a blast on lite tackle, freelining with 1/4 oz bucktail. Fished the beach at Hobe Sound a couple of days ago, big ground swells and snook were hitting, 1 guy caught 25 #, mine weren't quite slot, c'est la vie, bluefish were getting active too. Got a report that the ladyfish are on the beach at Lantana & Boynton, since I have incoming tide tomorrow morning it's tarpon then ladyfish (aka poorman's tarpon) on the beach.
  17. Without question. William Clay Ford ( his son is at the helm now ), bought the team in 1964 and since that time probably the worst professional team of any sport, haven't won a championship since '57. The Ford's have hired terrible personel, Russ Thomas, Matt Millen. The equation is never there, good players and bad coach or good coach and bad players. Total wasted the talents of Barry Sanders. Ran out to the Silverdome, where they were known as the Pontiac Pu$y's, glad they are back in Motown, but ball games at tiger stadium were something special, what a shame.
  18. Many cell phones have a voice memo option
  19. I'm a spinning guy and I use a saltwater inshore med 8/17 7' rod for 90% of my freshwater bass fishing, it doubles well if I choose to take to saltwater. I've had no problem handling bass or snook up to 15# with a 2000 reel. The ones I use are very reasonably priced, not wanting to get into a brand war, PM me interested.
  20. Make him an offer ! Worst can happen is you get a no. I walked into Sports Authority a few years ago and they had a quantum cabo on clearance for 50% of msrp. This reel had been sitting in the showcase for months, I talked to the manager and said " do you really want to sell it?" His reply," you can have it for another 20% off"........deal done.
  21. I've been watching the news on tv.................yeh it's real bad !
  22. I would love to have been a fly buzzing around that boat and listening to the conversation. If a person feels in their heart they made a right choice on the proper course of action to be taken, then that's all there is too it. The first question I would have asked myself after receiving the offer of bribery, is this the first time or is it common practice for this fisherman. If I felt it was a one time shot, I'd reject the offer then probably just dropped the issue right then and there. Doing damage to some one's career for a lone error in judgement is something I could not do. However if I felt bribes were common place I most assuredly would have reported the incident, but would have done it as anonymous as possible.
  23. Any activity has a price tag. We have days when every thing is smooth and days when they are not, any thing mechanical can break. A sure fire way to fish and be cost effective is a cane pole and a box of leaf worms, other than that the expenses add up.
  24. Soak your line in warm tap water for about 15 minutes, quick easy temporary fix. Before using troll your line out, you should be coil and twist free, at least for a while. Am I safe to assume the spinning reel is on the smaller size ? If so try using lighter line. Don't overfill the spool, recommended is an 1/8" from the lip, a little less than that may be even more beneficial.
  25. I like watching Manning, best of the 3 Mannings. Every time I see him I reminded of Johnny U without the hightops.
