  1. I use xraps exclusively as my hard jerkbait (lately I've been using a lure 1/2 the price that has been killing them). I use xr8 for freshwater, ghost or silver. I use xr10 for nearly every inshore species of saltwater, ghost, silver and blue.
  2. Walmart & Kmart are notorious for mismarking their items. I bought a conlon for 19.95 at walmart. I know of an instance where they had marked hurricane redbones (90 retail) for 10 bucks. it pays to drift in every once in while and take a look. If I wanted a rod just to get me by I would consider shimano scimitar 29.95. I have caught many fish in excess of 10lb, up to 40 on their 6'6 6-14 rod. I have a 10-20 7' scimitar used 2 times anyone in my area can have it for free. The bad rap is that in time the ceramic inserts will crack and fall off....Sports Authority carries them. Any rod under 60 or 70 bucks is a disposable rod anyway.
  3. I went to a funeral several weeks ago of a 95 year old man that had served in WW2. The services were conducted at a religious temple but the burial service at the cemetery was conducted by the Navy. It was awesome
  4. I have a cardinal 802 & 804, these reels handle fish. I use these reels for snook, redfish and tarpon. I put an 804 handle on my 802, and what a difference it made ($10.) got it on ebay for about $80.00. I just moved the 802 to freshwater.
  5. Could not be further from the truth. Most east coast Florida winter days are casting into a 20-30 mph wind with 3-5 waves, hardly being lazy. Or if one is a bait fisherman, catching bait is no easy chore now, not to mention getting soaking wet as each wave is busting over a pier ( some do get washed over too) again that's hardly being lazy. If you want to catch fish in salt it takes more work than one realizes. As a guide once told me "tide is everything......."
  6. ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ AGREED A point without a counterpoint is not seeing both sides of an issue.
  7. The question is "what am I going to use it for? For bass I think the 2000 is more than adequate especially in a low vegetation area, doubt if you would be spooled out from a lmb. The 2500 would be a better choice for all around usage as it has more line capacity and twice the drag and would handle heavy cover better. Both reels seem to be a bit on the heavy side but that would your preference, I'm sure it's a fine product. http://www.cabelas.com/link-12/product/0048762122343a.shtml
  8. Still made, it's the saltwater version of the president.
  9. Personal attacks are unethical, one's guilt trip is out of my control. Returned a shemano baitcaster after 3 days, grinded, second one is fine. A bad assembly can happen to any mfg co.
  10. For under a $100 I'd take a long look at the pflueger supreme, read Dicks had them on clearance for $69., I have 2 and they perform as well as my stradic fi. which has been collecting dust lately. I have had presidents and the only knock is I don't care for a rosewood handle and I prefer a lighter reel, but they are real workhorses and cannot beat customer service.
  11. I'm gonna give ya one out of my private stock.......lol. This catches fish fresh or salt. Know what a snookball is? I make up my own version. 1/4 or 1/2 oz bullet jig, tailed with white zoom worm.
  12. I own 2 supremes, 8030 for freshwater and 8035 I use for snook in saltwater. Despite the contrarian view that magnesium cannot be used it saltwater, just isn't true as long as you rinse it off after each use, any saltwater fisherman does that anyway. Mine are about 6 months old and I use them almost daily, 8035 absolutely manhandles 12-15lb snook, I've been using it in favor of my stradic fi 4000. A real bargain at $69. A negative view based on no practical experience is worthless and should be given no merit.
  13. For a simple resize, this is about as easy as it gets....single or batch http://photo-resize-magic.sow.qarchive.org/_download2.html
  14. $500, you got off easy. I buried a treble in my thumb last year and went to emergency. A friend cut the hook but he snippped it very short. The doctor said I should have left the entire lure on. Took him what seemed like about 6-7 minutes to make the incision and remove the hook. cost me $1140.
  15. I'm a braid man plain and simple for a number of reasons. On the rarest of occasions that I use mono I soak the spool in warm tap water for 5-10 minutes before spooling. I find it makes a favorable difference. I thought I was a trendsetter til I moved to Florida where I discovered lots of people doing it that way for years.
  16. Use tape, no need for backing. I haven't used backing for braid in a few years.
  17. Bassn is right on the money. The fish will set the hook, you yank it, you lose it. Healthier for the fish if you plan on releasing. Did ya know, they hook live bait (goggle eyes ) for sailfish with a rubberband around the baits body and put the circle under the rubberband, so you never have an injured bait that may die. Good idea as those goggleyes are 10 bucks apiece.
  18. Not only will they handle the paperwork and closing but for a nominal fee will list in on the mls. The majority of homes are sold off the mls, usually from another office. Pick an agency that has a larger number of agents as they have "tour day" and will get to know your home in person, giving you even better exposure. An attorney when the time is right is never a bad idea. Without being negative, the real estate game is unscrupulous and it's out to get you.
  19. I was inquiring as to any decent canal fishing in the area, not that I would poo poo getting on Lake Wellington. Today was decent for me, nailed 1 in my pound went 5.1 on the richter, after catching some spanish macks at the ocean. I need longer arms
  20. I was a real Estate broker in a former life back in Michigan in the late 60's for about 5 years. After I retired I got a real estate license down in Florida. Your time frame is a very important issue, the possibility of selling quickly is enhanced by using a realtor but these are unusual times. I can give you reasons why a realtor is better, I can also give you reasons why you can do it on your own just as well. Which ever way you go, my advice to you is price your home realistically and to sharpen your home up, it's a buyers market. Listen to the negative responses and don't take it personal. Case in point, my home was for sale with an agent for 8 months with 50 showings. I then did it myself with only signs and sunday open houses. The key was that I did some painting and put a new wood floor in, people were negative on carpet. Improve the landscaping to give it better curb appeal. Fireplace on, candles, fresh baked pie things like that all add to the warmth of the home. Believe it or not most homes are sold on curb appeal according to national real estate board. Lastly........only speak when spoken to, lol. If an agent shows the home, let him or her show it and you leave the house. If FSBO only answer questions(honestly) when asked, do not volunteer anything, you may accidentally say the wrong the thing to kill the deal. Once it's sold there are brokers that will for about $500 take care of ordering all the legal work and handle the closing, that's what I did.
  21. Bet it would, the medalist is just the saltwater version, those handles are usually around 10 bucks, call Pure Fishing in Spirit Lake Ia, they represent pflueger now.
  22. I'm in Delray and I have been experiencing the same thing. Caught only a few the last few days and they were small, normally my production is pretty good, but overall for some reason this has been a poor season.
  23. I go back to around 1950, I was 5 or so. My dad was an avid fisherman, also was in the fish biz as well. We went nearly every Sat & Sun, even in the winter on the ice. For a city boy it boggled my mind how he knew so much, but he did, he even drop shotted using live minnows more than 50 years ago, but he had no name for it then. We had a cottage on an inland lake and my dad rented me a rowboat for the season with an old elgin 6.5 horse motor and I fished every day. On the weekends we went to the great lakes. He gave me a Masters Degree in bait fishing and P.H.D. in casting.
  24. I also have medalist, larger one 7050 I use for cuda, but it may be the smoothest of all the reels I own. Medalist all thru the line are heavy, but it's a terrific reel.
  25. Not sure where Bahia Honda is but I have made several trips in the backwater at Islemorada. Sight casting with light spinning. Snook, juvy tarpon, bonefish, permit, shark and tripletails. I'm sure you will do good, look for the bait busting. The water is shallow and clear, you will see the fish a long way off.
