  1. Nice outing, water is high now too. Missed the action but a good weekend for my required continuing education seminar, raining today today. BTW the snook are starting to turn on.
  2. Merely gave an opinion on snagging, I don't care for it, but if you do, have fun. Personally I see no real challenge or any fishing expertise in it, I'm staying with I do best and that's real fishing.
  3. After I read this post I went out yesterday pm in my local pond fishing for some mayans, they hit best in hot weather. 4# test ul setup crappie jigs(they love them), I caught no mayans but to my surprise I caught A blue tilapia close to 3#, biggest one I ever caught and they don't hit that often.
  4. I fair much better with a hard jerkbait than a zoom fluke for freshwater, but in saltwater flukes are real killers snook and tarpon go wild for them. I prefer another brand but the zooms work fine.
  5. Great !....... I snook fish every morning and they are finally stating to run in Palm Beach County, caught 3 yesterday morning. I don't do a lot of brackish water, but I would like to, distance is no object.
  6. I have everything I want and need, except more 25+snook and 50+tarpon on light tackle and throw in a few bonefish for good measure.
  7. I'm not from Miami so I do not have first hand knowledge. I have read on line about the Miami lakes area, try google and I think it may put you on the right track. This may work for you........griffin rd canal, ft lauderdale. Start just west of the spillway (at 441)and work your way west. There are LMB, Peacock, freshwater Snook & Tarpon. Plenty of shore access and if you have a boat there are boat ramps, but you would have to research that on your own, I'm boatless. I target snook and tarpon, peas too, always interested in a new spot to try.
  8. Da snook have finally shown their presence. Quite a few caught today, 1 slot. I caught 3 myself bout 26 inches 6-7lbs.
  9. I don't know of anyone eating them, but I have read on the FWC site that they are good to eat)if memory serves). The FWC gives their opinion on the edibility of most Florida fish.
  10. No question..............Mayan cichlid, I caught 1 about 2.5lb yesterday, they fight like peacocks. Everywhere here in South Fla., it's an everyday day catch. Yours toothless?, Some have really sharp teeth.
  11. I saw the Shakespeare Dimension at walmart over xmas for cheap, something like 34.95 if my memory serves. Would have bought but I have more than I use anyway. I did have a Shakespeare Agility, 1 step below the Dimension and it was as smooth as could be. I ruined it using it saltwater but served me well for 6 months.
  12. I'll stick to real fishing.
  13. Says it for me..........snagging is as sporting as blowing them out of the water with m-80's or cherry bombs.
  14. That is a good article and I'm not surprised at all. Fishing can be done on any budget, probably just as productive. If you're hungry it's hard to beat a cane pole and a box of leaf worms. I see hordes of people fishing the piers daily with a bag of frozen shrimp for 3 bucks.........it's that or they don't have dinner for the family.
  15. Bait & tackle stores down here open 7 & 6 on W.E., some open an hour earlier than that, I'm thankful Walmart is open 24 hours for a fill in as I generally leave about 4 am. Some banks are open Sundays and most have extended hours on Fridays. With an ATM card you're never out of cash & most take credit cards anyway. Business' need to cater to their clientele, products as well as hours, even the big box stores. I come from the theory of "ya gotta spend a buck to make a buck" Stores today need better trained sales personnel and store managers to do the ordering of products offered for sale instead of the home office purchasing agents.
  16. Fish that are purchased at a market or ordered from a restaurant menu are not killed immediately upon catching. These fish are net caught and die on their own accord. They do not have less of a taste than a freshly killed fish. If you buy fish from a market beware of places that take the fish in the back room to filet it, we always did it in front of you and be sure to check the eyes and gills of the fish, tells the story of freshness.
  17. I mostly use spinners, all have Fuji concept and the 7 footers all have 9 guides as well, seems to be the same as b/c rods.
  18. A forum is not a democracy and and there should be guidelines followed by all. Some topics seem always to lead into a discussion of politics, the economy for one because it is so intertwined with politics. A stock market slump or surge for example may be caused by economic policies by the government........that's politics. IMO the moderators themselves need to stay away from starting threads that can lead into a political discussion.
  19. I agree....The question is , Do you want to sell ? Not only is he fishing for the lowest price, but you are fishing for the highest price.
  20. Gnats were out yesterday and that's my cue to pack it in for freshwater. Bait has been showing up in the icw and the snook are roaming now, bite will be on any time now.
  21. It's identical to the Storm kicktail and yes it works. I bought some at Sports Authority yesterday for 2.99. In Boynton Beach they can't keep them on the shelf, sells out fast. Everything works some of the time and nothing works all of the time, when they're on they'll hit your mother's old garter belt.
  22. I have yet to send a pflueger in but have shipped abus to them. They request return shipping 9.95 but don't send it, I never have Fill out this form, it's generic http://www.abugarcia.com/media/File/023754ReelRepairReturnForm.pdf my experiences have always 100% positive
  23. I concur.......... I have sent reels back to Pure fishing for simple cleanings and they send me new reels, they also are serving Pflueger now. DA BEST !!! They treat you like a customer ! I have had dealings with probably the most popular manufacturer on here and they treat you poorly and the turnaround time is like 4-5 weeks and don't pay the freight back even for warranty work. They seem to act like "elitists", when in fact their product is on a par with others and it's 25% overpriced to begin with.
  24. Glad you are back in action. If you are getting a line twist, float your line behind a boat or let line out in river current or what I do let it float out at an ocean inlet with no weight, reel back tightly thru fingers. If those are not available try tying a snap swivel to a fence, walkout the line, the reel back tightly thru the fingers........or buy braid and never have to deal with.
