  1. HAHA, only on rare occasions, I will say I am darn good snook fisherman, but it takes their cooperation, as in life 90% of it is just showing up. I couldn't buy a bite over the last few days. I only fish frogs in my canal behind my home. I have masses of elephant grass floating and it's the only thing you can use. Simple wide gap 4/0 eagle claw hook, the cheaper the better they all work, just have to let them take it before setting the hook. Believe me many are missed, it's the toughest hookset I think. I pop em instead of fast retrieves, but today they were hitting as soon as the toad hit water, so much for color and retrieve. I have to be the worst worm fisherman, just hate those things, too passive for my style and no patience for it. zzzzzzzzz
  2. I read an article written by a former tv producer saying that fish are prehooked, at least on the shows he worked on.
  3. Perfect conditions, 25 + mph winds and 6-7 ft swell. Started the day at tide change by catching a snook slob about 18-20lbs, then just after day break 10-12# jacks came in and I caught 2. Came home and needed a nap I was whacked out. About 11 went to my canal in my yard and caught 6 lmb on horny toads, 2 @22" and 1@ 24". Stars were lined up right today..........
  4. I don't buy much in the way of freshwater baits or lures, I use my saltwater stuff for bass and it works just fine
  5. Excellent tip Do you need steel leader?, no...........but for pike it's best to have one. You can twist up some piano wire or better yet, what I do is make my own leaders. You can cheat a little bit by purchasing about a 40# leader, then cutting off those terrible snaps and putting good ones on. Buy some crimpers and most fishing pliers have a crimping tool on them. goes like this swivle snap (crimp it), single leader line attached to a barrel swivel(crimp it on )then tie your braid to the swivel and change your lure when desired via the snap.
  6. I can't see the entire trailer but it appears as there is no front axle, without minimal support of a front Axel the front of the trailer would have to sag putting enormous strain. The log is sizeable, how much it weighs I don't know, as I can't see how big the hi lo is. I'm going to give some credit and hope they were at least going to strap it down to prevent any side roll. I don't know anything about pick up trucks, but I thought the hitch was always welded to the frame, not sure why the box was pulled loose, but not my field of expertise. I owned steel hauling tractors and trailers so I know a little something about hauling loads. Looks like in the long run would have been way cheaper to hire a professional to move it in the first place.
  7. I fish braid exclusively both fresh and salt ( btw I'm from Birmingham) and I only use spinning. I do not use mono backing, however nothing wrong with topshotting. I simply tape the braid onto the spool using painters or masking tape. Do the math and see how much mono is needed, I would think about 100yards of braid would be sufficient. Many tips I could give you about braid, once I got used to it nothing else is considered. When casting with braid retrieve with your rod a bit higher like in the 2:00 position rather than perfectly horizontal or low, you get a better hookset(because of no stretch)if you are going to troll no problem as the rod most likely will be in a rod holder.
  8. If anyone has ever watched " How it's Made " on Discovery, they had a segment on graphite rod building, much like this video. I am more fascinated by the machinery that makes these products than the product itself.
  9. I've bought redbones at Sports Authority in Boynton and they didn't mind, I bought a Shimano at the Boynton fisherman on federal and they didn't care and I bought a Star at BPS in Dania and they assisted me as well in selecting a good rod for the reel I brought in to the store. My personal policy super-cedes any store policy, I have what they want, MY MONEY, makes me the boss not them. I made my own cardinal mistake of buying a closeout on line. $75 rod Daiwa for 19.95 and I'm not crazy for it.
  10. I also had the trion 35 size but on a 2 piece rod so I gave it to my son in law when he was down here, only negative THE ROSEWOOD HANDLE. The newer president xt has done away with the rosewood handle. I can't think of anything better for 39.95 than the trion.
  11. I have no idea of what earth science is, I'm still using an abacus, but some of my best fishing is done about 24 hours before a hurricane when the barometer is starting to drop.
  12. Not surprised, pickup isn't designed for that kind of hauling. Trailer too low and tires too small, needed MH duty tractor with split axle and a flatbed trailer
  13. Never buy a rod online, unless you live a 100 miiles from nowhere. Take your reel and put on several rods and see what you like. Examine that rod for defects, bent or misaligned guides or anything else that doesn't look right, most likely it will be fine. Last of all, just buy one already and be done with it, learn by your own trial error
  14. Is this a new reel?..........if so take it back to the store where you purchased it for an exchange. I'm not sure I would send a $ 39 reel in, I would take the opportunity to upgrade. If you still want to send it in, send me a pm and I will give you the link for the repair form. I don't remember if a spare spool is supplied when you bought the reel, if so put it on and save the spool with your line on it, or in the comment section of the repair form ask for your line back. Most likely they will send a new reel.
  15. The gnats are biting hard..........go snook fishing
  16. D.O.A.,pearl or rootbeer but it's a secret
  17. A good 40% of my fishing is done with spoons. They all work but my favorite is Mepps, doesn't flop on top like some of the others. I catch everthing from Tilapia-Peacocks-Lmb, Snook -Tarpon-Jack Crevelle-Ladyfish-Bluefish...you name it, caught 3 Spanish Macks on a silver one this morning.
  18. I see the president is now marketed for saltwater use as well, a chnage from the previous model. The medalist is proven ( I have one)but it is heavy. I might take a shot with the new president but 6725 does not hold enough line for saltwater, unless if is to be used for bait (sabiki rig)
  19. If they're schooling it makes no difference, they hit anything. I prefer top lure.
  20. Boy you said a mouthful.............The reason there are so many colors and different kinds of lures is only to sell you more stuff than you really need. I fish my pond every afternoon, I use the same 3 or 4 things and always catch fish, if there on they're on!
  21. If I was not clear, it was 3 different reels, not the same one over and over again. Let me give you a comparison things like this don't happen much anymore. In the auto business years ago whenever you took a car in for service they would give you a loaner, generally a more expensive car than what you brought in. Whether it was a dealers option or mfg the philosophy was to " show "the newer car off in hopes of keeping customer loyalty and it worked. In the early 90's I take my Mark in for service and right on the spot Enterprise rent a car is renting me a piddly little car, 2 months later a reimbursement form FMC........I never bought another Lincoln. Same case scenario with my 2000 Mercedes, have yet to buy another M.B. I don't think new school customer relations match old school business models, Pure Fishing has earned my loyalty. Pure fishing feels if they treat me right, my next reel purchase may be from a company that they represent.......that's smart business.
  22. You've got that one right, Boca Grande, that's Tarpon country. A LMB to a Tarpon is like a Bluegill to a Muskie, no comparison.
  23. The post said cleaning not repairing , haven't had the need of a repair. I own no Pure fishing reels as they are not a reel company but a service company, in my eyes they supplied service.
  24. Hands down no better customer service. For the 3rd time I sent a reel in for a general cleaning, indicating no warranty on the shipper and included my Visa info. 9 days from shipping to my doorstep a brand new soron 804 replaced my shipped cardinal 804, free of charge.......does it get better?
  25. I have the trion 20 ul with 4# mono, haven't respooled in 2 years and no line twist, just dislike the rosewood handle it's too slippery. I apply few dabs of rubber cement for a better grip, the cement wears off in time so no damage done.
