Last Thing I Needed Was A New Smartphone......but
Israel has already developed something similar, it's in the funding stage, I did post a link but I can't find it lol. My droid would last 2-3 days without a charge with everything left on. As far as battery life it is better than any of the 4 smartphones I've had. Always have the option of buying a more battery, don't think I will need it. Overall size and display of the Galaxy s4 is what I wanted, the display is crisper and the camera is much better than my droid. Sound quality is not up to par, acceptable for phone but music and videos are lacking. Seldom watching videos and playing music in my car using a flashdrive (excellent) it's not a real big issue for me. I have read that earphones greatly improve the quality but I'm not an earphone kind of guy. So far I'm enjoying it.

Last Thing I Needed Was A New Smartphone......but
It was contract time at Verizon, I wanted a new toy. For the record I was content with my Motorola droid maxx, but I wanted a slightly larger display and a sharper screen. Wanting to stay with android many of the new phones were bigger in size than I wanted, I came across the Samsung galaxy s4. Being last years model it was free, just the upgrade fee. Hardly bigger than my droid the screen jumped from 4.3 to this one being 5". So many features I'll never use or can learn to, lol. Battery doesn't compare to the maxx, but not all that bad. I'm pleased with it, love the voice command to shoot a pic.

Are The Expensive Rods Really Worth It?
Not being primarily a contact bait user, I don't really know. For the most part I stay with moving lures, whether it's bass, peacock or inshore species. When I get a strike there isn't any question, big or small I know I have a fish on the line. Can't speak to all the $100 rods out there but the one I use (have 7 of them) casts and handles fish as well as any more expensive rods I've had or used. As far as durability, nearly 10 years on a few of them, can't address the newer ones as I haven't needed to buy one. I paid 90 bucks and 10 years later they're still 90 bucks. I will admit some of the more expensive rods were a bit lighter in weight, that wasn't a game maker for me.

Glad to see a few other Gary Cooper fans, I liked him in just about everything he did.

South Florida Pond Fishing
Another morning on the chilly side today and I caught only bass about 6", that's being skunked.

Bogie and Bacall were pretty good too. Thank you TCM for keeping these old movies alive.

Question About Spooling 2 Reels
It's the diameter not the pound test on the package. I do believe most specks on the reel is full capacity, I'm always fill little less than full.

South Florida Pond Fishing
It's been slow here in Delray/Boynton, some of my best golf course ponds haven't been producing at sunrise. Two weeks ago it was on fire here. Today the debate I'm with myself is the inlet or bass fishing, the inlet was dead yesterday morning.

The Road To The Super Bowl
The latest line I saw was NE by 1 point, IMO that's a pickem. My gut feeling is Seattle peaked already, GB let them off the hook. I'm going with NE, I like Brady getting into that 4 superbowl win category, Russell is young he has plenty of time left.

Anyone Ever Gotten In Trouble Or Aske To Leave A Pond?
I've fished some of those Mall ponds. A mall is private property, some company owns the land and leases to the stores. I've been left alone for the most part, once in a while security will ask me to leave. I don't often park at a strip center, the parking spots are vital for the businesses. Most larger malls should pose no real problem, the ponds are usually a good distance from the stores.

Fishing On A Budget
Walmart does not have a large selection, but large enough to catch any kind of fish any place. Those $1 spinnerbaits work, so do the inexpensive hard lures, Zoom flukes are very reasonably priced as well as other soft plastics. They carry decent spoons and bucktails too, not a bad place to shop for the budget minded person. High 5's to RW.

Bed Fishing: Friend Or Foe
Fishing for sport whether it's immediate catch and release or hours later if in tournament, the act of hooking them probably does put stress on them. It isn't natural for the fish to be on the end of a line, that's our sport. I've seen very few bass go belly up (gut hooked for sure) in a normal fight, yet I don't know what happens to all of them once they swim off 100% of the time. I do think it's a blood sport, all the care in the world does not insure a longer life for them. Fishing is enjoyment for us, I'm not sure how much the fish enjoys it.

Needed Advice...
If I'm having a contest with some one I'd make a decision on what to use when I got on the water.

An 8Lb Fish....
Charts vary a little bit, 24" isn't a bad guesstimate.

Goliath Grouper
Not for me anymore. A big difference in landing a bottom fish like a big grouper, many larger sharks fight the same way. It's brute strength just to get them off the bottom. Tarpon or billfish are totally different, they run out not deep and can be chased after with the boat. You may not see what the helmsman is doing on tv with 100+ tarpon on a fly rod, almost a guarantee he/she following after the fish. Can't do that with grouper, that fish is right underneath the boat and not moving too far or too fast. That's a young man's game with a strong back.

Remind Me Not To Noodle!
265 does look light, I'v seen 300# guys that look smaller. No way in the world I'd noodle, the fish aren't my main concern, it's water moccasins.

Fishing On A Budget
$50 is a slim budget any way it's looked at, even saving a couple bucks on a bag of plastics that 50 number will easily be reached. I'd also look at the other side of the equation, make your sure line is in good shape, knots tied properly and fish water where you are less likely to get hung up. You may not catch as many fish, but you are fishing. I would buy local instead of paying shipping charges if possible. Can always catch your own bait, nightcrawlers in the backyard are free. I spend a whole lot more $50 on freshwater lures and tackle, but what I use to actually catch fish every day comes in way under that mark. When I first started tieing jigs I didn't have a vice, stuck the jig head into a cardboard box and use it as vice. Of course it didn't work as well but it did work and caught fish, so don't be afraid to improvise.

Bed Fishing: Friend Or Foe
I treat my wife pretty much the same as I do a bass or any other fish. One of the true pleasures of my life is sticking a hook in her mouth and ski dragging her back to the boat. Who says marriage isn't a blood sport, it's PETA approved.

Fishing On A Budget
50 bucks doesn't go a long way even buying sale items. I might stay away from plastics, those are always being replenished, in the long run they may be more expensive. Forget what I buy it's what I use, during the present bass season I'm in right now I'm usually catching at least 10 bass every morning. I've used only a Storm chug a bug, roostertails (only item that I regularly replace, mepps will last longer), hard jerkbait and spoon. I don't always stay with a limited number of baits, but this year I am and doing it for less than $50. The budget doesn't limit the number of fish you can catch, your ability is the controlling factor.

Between freshwater fishing, inshore and offshore saltwater I have quite a bit of gear. Not in the market for anything except for replacement or something just on a whim.

Snook Reopens In Atlantic State Of Florida Waters
http://www.snookfoundation.org/ Good article on barracuda, a very under rated fish. We target them here all the time, stinkiest fish I've ever come across but taste great on the plate. Strikes are awesome.

Goliath Grouper???
That's a big one, I've seen them the size of a VW beetle, never caught one. They can't be harvested in Florida, larger ones should be unhooked while still in the water, same for tarpon. I've caught black and gag grouper, groupers are very powerful.

Redfish/seatrout/snook Thread
I think my inshore saltwater fishing has improved my bass fishing. I seem to be much more aware of what's going on me, I do less blind casting.
