A word of caution on that Field and Stream rod for you. I have that same rod, length, IM7 and everything. It has a flaw you should keep in mind. I have broken the cork knob off at the end on two of them this year. Granted I was frog fishing and putting it under some serious stress but I recommend you keep your hand high enough on the cork handle that your lower hand isn't hitting the "knob" or where the cork changes at the end of the rod. hmmm so the knob will fall off huh? i wonder if i should take it back? is that the only flaw? how did it handel the fish? its funny, i was trying to find reviews online about this rod and i couldnt until after i bought it. Oh it handled a ton of hawgs for me this summer! I fish allot of ponds with tons of grass and so I really let loose on heaving my frogs. I'd also use my stomach as a butt on some viscous hook sets that led to one breaking on a hook set. This was the only problem I had with this rod and Dicks was good to me with exchanges. One thing you could do would be to take your receipt in and add the warranty coverage for like $5. That way if you have a problem they just mail you a gift card for the original purchase price. IMHO it's a fairly good low price rod but I do consider the knob to be a defect in the overall design and not a isolated problem. Like I said though as long as your aware of it you will probably be ok. I never mistreated the rods that broke but I certainly put them in a situation where allot of stress and force was used often in hauling many 5+ pound fish out of HEAVY vegetation. Including the 6 punder in my Bio pic. OK SIMP 2 THINGS !!!! 1 - thanks for the heads up :-) 2 - take me fishing with you!! 8-) well i havent taken any tags off the rod yet so maybe i'll take it back?? the rod looks good and is a good price. if it handles the big bass you catch its gotta be alright for the most part. Dicks has another model IM7 that was $10 more, i wonder if it has the same prob? Well I'd say if that knob is plastic instead of cork go for the exchange. While if it's cork don't bother and just keep on eye on your hand placement. Now if you want to get some hawgs this summer I'd recommend you buy the Dean Rojas spro frog learn to walk it then find some grass! yeah the rod i have is the blue one with a cork butt.. the other one they have is brown also with a cork butt. i didnt see a difference in them other than the color and price. i might be ok with mine bcuz the way i fish the butt would only be touching my forearm. and yeah i'll deff get a frog cause i like walking the topwater!!

Left-handed casting?
When i was a kid my dad took me to a fishing/bait store to buy my 1st spinning reel. the salesman asked me if i was right or left handed. I said that i was right handed so he showed me a Mitchell 300 that cranks on the left. He said that since im right handed that i should cast/control the fish with my strongest hand/arm. I still use those 300's and 300c's to this day. so for me its how i started and how i will finish lol. My baitcasters also crank on the left. I cast with the strong arm and crank with the weaker with no switching. a buddy of mine is right handed with a spinning reel with the crank on the right. so he casts with the right hand then switches the rod to his left to retrieve. it look very awkward. just my .02 cents :-)
