harpoon i am pretty new to bass fishing and baitcasters. I also was a great fan of walmart. I did buy a cheap combo at sportsmans warehouse for 39.99. It was a shakespheare BC reel on a MH Ugly stick. I soon decided to buy a diawa megaforce for 59$ and I love it. I cant help but wonder how much better casting could get with say a 100-150 reel and a better rod. Maybe this year Ill find out. This was a great thread for me as well, I learned a great deal. Like I said Im new as well and feel like a sponge, thanks for all who contribute.

Does anyone uses these on crankbaits or jigs, I have a friend that uses one for everything. Neither me or him have many rods in his case just one in my case 2. He likes them just for a quick lure change. This past year I never used one. I just cut off the bait I was using and tied on a new one. To me a fish would wonder what that swivel was and maybe not bite. what is yalls take on this?

I am sorry if that was confusing. I meant I am looking for a good all around reel and I would prefer a round body over a low profile.

last year I fished with a guy who was using a round reel like a abu c4 but I dont know what it really was and cant get in touch with him. He used if for catfish bass and striped bass. I know he used spiderwire braid. I have been wanting an abu garcia just because I dont have anything by abu garcia. When I went with him he was casting a brush hog without a weight and he had good distance. Would an abu c4 perform like this? I want a round reel to put braid on to fish just for big fish like striper and catfish but it has to be able to cast good for topwater. This is just a preference I would like to have in the arsenal. you know round vs. low profile any thoughts.

What line do you prefer for a baitcaster? This past year I stuck with suffix elite and it did me well. I fish mostly clear waters a river and a lake. I did just recently put some power pro 20lb on a spinning reel but havent tried it out yet. So what do you all like the best braid, mono, fluor, or poly. What brands?

dodgeguy if you dont mind me asking what kind of reel are you using 50lb on?

I am new to the forums and braids. I tried searching for this but didnt turn up any results. What do yall prefer on a baitcaster and spinning reel,braid or mono? Mono has never really let me down but I bought some powerpro 20lb I have heard alot of good about it but I dont know which reel to try it on. As far as easier casting distance or even how it lays on the spool. thanks
