Why Does A Lure Have To Look Like Food?
A lot of lures don't look like food. Even swim baits differ somewhat from the "food" they are trying to imitate. It is this "difference" that is what is called the triggering quality of the lure. It makes the bass (or other fish) curious enough to "feel it with their mouth". In his book, Think Like a Bass, Tom Mann tells about catching bass by using a piece of bark and a hook, but he was able to get them interesed (i.e. triggered) to strike.

Anyone Watch "swamp People?"
"It would not surprise me that they are loaded. Making 350.00 a day for catching gators? they aren't that dumb". Sort of reminds me of backin the day when you could go to Hot Springs, AR and see them dumb, ignorant hillbillies selling water to them brilliant yankees - and the government owned the water.

Man Do I Feel Dumb
When my son was younger, it was his job to hold the rope after we floated the boat off the trailer while I parked the truck. One Saturday morning when the rampe was crowded, I handed him the rope, backed it and started to pull out when I heard all this yelling - looked back and there was my son, holding the rope while the boat "floated out to sea". The hook eye had come loose. The other boaters retrieved the boat for me but laughed a lot about the look on my son's face when the boat started floating off.

What's Up With This?
Update!!! She is the one that's sick - I'm going fishing!!!

What Would You Have Followed Up With
Once they taste the steel they are usually pretty much gone - follow-ups are usually for top water lures (spooks, pop-r's, etc.) - but if you have a worm or Senko rigged up it is okay to throw it out - I landed one of my PB's by throwing back a worm after the fish came off in the weeds as I was reeling it in on crank bait.

Best Spray On Scent???
Fished with a guy this weekend - we were both throwing black/blue Senko's, but he had put some Kichin Bass in the bag to let his soak - he outfished me 4 to 1. Don't know how long he had been letting them brew, but it really seemed to make a difference.

Is It A Pug? No, It's A Bass!
I think they call it a snub nose bass - Scott Martin was talking about that on his show last week - wonder what the deal is?

Kicker Strategy
There are so many variables - it depends on the lake, the season, the forage, etc. But if I had to try to pull a kicker from the lakes I usually fish, I would be throwing a jig on submerged brush piles. It seems like the good ol bigguns (or big ol goodens) alwyas seem to hang around the brush piles, especially in the middle part of the day when most tournaments are wrapping up.

What's Up With This?
UPDATEIt's funny how these posts take little twists and turns - no danger of "sea sickness" on the local lake. At 4:30 AM on the front porch - no wind at all. By 5:00 AM, on the way to the lake, winds were about 35 mph out of the NWN - temp is 41. Spent the morning looking for fish, my partner caught 4 and I got 1. Rain never showed up. Spent the afternoon cleaning out the garage while the wife worked in the front yard. This morning, she is running a temperature and I am ready to go fishing again - who's too old now

What's Up With This?
Heading out to a local club tournament in the morning and the weather forecast is rainy and windy - My wife, who is 37 days older than me by the way, just informed me that I am "too old to get sick" - ? I don't think she will ever understand.

Does Tempurature Affect Fishing Gear?
How hot/cold does it get in a truck delivering this stuff to BPS, Cabellas, Gander Mountain, etc?

Crank Bait Packaging
I am not sure I can visualize exactly what you are describing - but that is probably becuase work has me brain dead right now - but for me, the best option would be something reusable that would keep the crank bait from getting hooked on the other rods in my rod box and that would fit inside a rod sock as well. May be a little too much to ask for, but dreams do come true some times.

Amazing New Discovery
If you have an ice-cream freezer - try mixing 6 cans of Crush (other types don't work as well) with two cans of Eagle Brand Milk - tastes like Serbert

Trigger-X Baits
I picked some up at a bargain bin at Scheels last year - not only did they not work, the bag leaked and made my whole tackle bag stink.

Going to Table Rock
Check out Pete Wenners - it has been a long time since I hired him, but he was great

jerkbaits
A few years ago I was at BPS to pick up a few things before going out to pre-fish a lake before a tournament. I knew there were a lot of visible brush piles on the lake and thought it would be cool to throw crank baits around 'em 'cause they probably don't get fished that way - but I didn't want to lose any crankbaits so was just planning to worm and jig fish like everybody else does. Then I saw the bargain bin with $1 crankbaits - bought one in every color and threw 'em all day - never lost one and caught lots of fish. Moral: you can't judge a crankbait by the bin it in

Funniest things you have seen on the water
There have been so many - here are a couple: 1) Was fishing a tournament on a point near the ramp when a car pulling a boat pulled up and about 6 teenage guys got out. They proceeded to try to back the boat down the ramp without any success - each guy gave it a try and each one jack knifed it either right or left - they huddled up and talked it over and decided to unhook the boat from the trailer hitch and walk it down - the boat started rolling and did a turn before they could get it stopped - it took all 6 of them to drag it back up, put it on the hitch and drive away. 2) Had been fishing with a guide on Table Rock when my son was about 8 years old - we were drop shotting in about 70 feet of water and the fish were suspended at 30 feet - we caught a good limit a piece. Next week my son and I went to the local lake and decided to try DSing - I rigged one up for him and told him to let out line 'til he felt it hit bottom and then turn the crank. I proceeded to rig one up for me and when I turned around he was still letting line out - I said, I told you to turn the crank when it hit bottom - he said I never felt it hit bottom - I said turn the crank and when he did his line went taught and a fish jumped about 50 yards on the other side of the boat - we did manage to get that one in but it wasn't easy.

worms
Zoom Ultr-vibe Speed Worms - that's the ticket!! Try the Junebug, Junebug-red and Redbug - drag 'em along the bottom and hang on!

Fishing in the wind?
Fellas, 25 mph wind is a "calm" day in Nebraska Work the wind blown points with cranks and chatter baits - jigs can also work well in these areas. Try to position your boat into the wind and quarter the wind with your cast, if possible.

Seems like it has something to do with the color of the eyes, but I don't remember the formula - good question- Homemade Scent/ Lube Question
Just a random, disorganized thought regarding your subject. I once fished with a guy when I was a newbie in my local club. At the start of the tournament, he said, "You'll find that fish the way most of the guys do, excep I use Preparation H". This started my brain whirling, thinking "I use preparation too but I never connected it to catching fish". Finally I asked him about it and explained that he spread it on his plastics to keep them from "drying out". I later learned that one of the ingredients of Preparation H is shark oil or something like that. You might want to try one batch with this - knowing that it has other uses if the outcome isn't what you are looking for.- Pitching A Lake Fork Ring Fry
There is a guy in my local club that fishes almost exclusively with Baby Ring Fries T-rigged with a 1/16 oz weight - the Regular ones are touch heavier and can easily be fished w/o weight. But, as I have said on other posts a good way to fish 'em is with a nail weight stuck in the butt end - sort of makes 'em back up and gets a reaction from trailing bass. - Smithwick ID
