  1. When I was a kid, I was musky fishing before going to baitcasting.....My dad had me using the most god awefull heavy spinning setup EVER.....He talks about that now and says he feels bad for having me fish with that... ;D This rod would be perfect for that......And if you don't find a use for it sell it on one of the Musky fishing forums 8-)
  2. Memory or line twist? Do you manually close your bail?
  3. Some people are convinced that a price tag or a name makes things better than they really are...... You will be fine with your BPS rod. The J/M Elite rod I bought is much more bang for the buck than any Loomis rod I could have gotten.......And while my Loomis rod is an entirely different rod, I still think the Elite is probably more sensitive.
  4. Granted the SHR is not GLX, but I find both my Rogue and Johnny Morris Elite to be more sensetive. 8-)
  5. Maybe that works for you. But boy are you wrong about the stupid simple part haha I think you might have convinced yourself otherwise to justify whatever big pricetag you payed for your crankin' rod ;D
  6. Johnny Morris Elite rod, and J/M Elite reel.
  7. Most crank bait rods are just cheap blanks with quality components, a name, and an endorser...... A crankbait rod is so stupid simple there is no sense in paying big bucks for one. You don't want a rod super sensitive or with a fast action to prevent pulling the crank away from fish..... To me that means that a crankbait rod is one of the only rods I consider cheap to be just fine...... I fish all my cranks with a snap for more action. And it makes it easy to change. So I only need one crankin' rod.......A Pflueger Tim Horton rod I bought a couple years ago that was on sale...Like $40
  8. They aren't using any kind of new technology. And on paper they are nothing special at all. But IMO they are a good reel that is rock solid reliable.....I don't own any but have fished them before....They are nicer than I ever thought they would be.
  9. What were the rumors going around about Tim Horton.
  10. A wide spool reel that holds more line will have a more consistant line pick up speed......You maintain a faster retreive through most of the cast.....
  11. Yeah I know.....But I'd put a cheap BPS reel on it. A rod will help you catch fish much more than a reel.
  12. I would use the 400-500 budget and buy more than one...... I would buy a Carrot Stik, and Pflueger Summit or Patriarch. Or Johnny Morris Elite rod, and and Revo STX. If I were forced to spend all the budget I would buy a 7' MH GLX, with a BPS reel that was on sale mounted on it. ;D
  13. I don't see how she didn't qualify fairly. Why is the qualification criteria not fair? Because she is fishing in a womens series? If anything it's MORE than fair, as she has to prove to be consistently the best for an entire tournament trail. And she did pretty good on day two. Best of all better than the big mouth idiot Bernie Shultz.
  14. HAHA. Your right. In which case yes that is the perfect all around rod. You can toss cranks/spinnerbaits, pitch (perfect for this IMO), jigs/worms.
  15. IMO that's to long. I would be sacrificing alot of manueverability vs a regular old 7' rod.
  16. One problem with those Daiwa's IMO is that the bail is like $50 to replace. (2nd hand info here). So if you aren't carefull that's a good chunk of money to spend on a reel that is only $100. Otherwise nice reels.
  17. I can see both sides of things like this. My sister-in-law likes to fish as much as ANYONE. And she does catch crap, and other times might over-react a little. Bernie Shultz was way out of line IMO. Anyone hear his comments on this mornings coverage....What a big mouth idiot. I intend to wright a few letters to his sponsors. You would think if you were going to act like an elitist ***** you would be something other than also ran, getting cut early every tournament.
  18. keeping the weight down on the bottom is the one of the most important aspects of your presentation.....I can't for the life of me figure why some think you need an ultra light weight.......You need to feel bottom to know where your bait is, to know what action you are imparting into it. I haven't watched the video yet, but I stick to 3/8 oz round sinkers......the pencil sinkers will reduce feel IMO. 3/8 works well for about any depth.
  19. Usually the lighter rods are to light. Especially for us up north guys IMO. You need to be down ticking weed tops and if you go ever slightly to far the light rods don't have the power to rip the crankbait free. They have just enough to bury it more though. :
  20. I've owned a couple Falcon Lowriders and they are excellent for the money. IMO you can't go wrong. I still use a 6'6" lowrider as my jerkbait rod.
  21. from 2nd person reports, and from BPS and Cabales reviews P-Line consistently gets better reviews.
  22. Daiwa is my first choice in most reels but there are much better bang for the buck out there. As for spinning reels I chose the Supreme's over daiwa products due to light weight, and higher speed.
  23. More like Shimano can't even come close to even thinking about trying to produce a reel of the quality some of the BPS reels are, all the while doing it for a cheap price.
  24. about 15 years ago a high end reel was $200 ish bucks. Same as today. You guys hate on BPS but they intruduce quality products at a more than excellent price which drives down the prices of competitors. Which is good for us. Everyone loves Shimano because they mostly make high end stuff. Everyones stuff is good at that price range....... Now to buy a Shimano in the price range of some of the BPS reels, you would have to drive to your local wal-mart.......HAHA. Enough said there.
  25. My brother uses one for burning lipless baits. On the right days with a 7ft rod and 3/8 to 1/2 oz red eye shad it will nearly if not empty the reel of line. I can't see anything casting medium weight stuff better...... Uses it alot and has held up great. I'll buy it for that price if you don't want it ;D
