1# reel choice
I have to agree with "It's not the car, it's the driver." And I don't think it matters how much money I make. I grew up poor and I'm not going to change my frugality now. I like Citicas and Curados for baitcasters, but I don't think I'll ever buy anything more expensive than a Curado. For spinning reels, the Shimano Stradic is my choice, and, again, I just can't see spending nearly $500 for a Stella. I'm not saying there's anything wrong with those who buy these reels. I'm sure these expensive reels are phenomenal, but, for me, the benefit doesn't justify the cost.

Your one best technique
At different times in my life, I could have picked one technique, but not now. My "bests" would be fishing plastics, spinnerbaiting, and shallow crankbaits.

best present angler
If your definition of best current angler is the current AOY then you are correct. For some people, current could mean the best over the last 2, 3, or 5 years, etc. And Matt Fly made a very good point about Luke Clausen winning the classic and the FLW championship. He can't be left out of consideration.

best present angler
Like Catt, I have always been a big fan of Rick Clunn. I have to admit that if we are trying to determine the best current angler, I would have to say it is between KVD, Ike, or Clausen, but I can't pick just one.

Ashley, welcome to the BassResource.com forum. There are a number of people near your age on this site, as others have already stated. Keep your eyes open and you'll learn a lot about fishing, from the many articles and posts. You may even teach us old geezers a thing or two.

Got my BR.com package
Well, I had to resurrect this thread to let everyone know of the quality clothing that BassResource.com is selling. I received my T-shirt and sweatshirt and these are some sweet threads. My wife even liked them and at half off, this stuff can't be beat.

Sportfishing Stages (read my post for info.)
I'm a 5. The way I look at, I can narrow it down to one even though I have tendencies that match number 3 and, on occasion, number 4. If I absolutely knew I wouldn't get a trophy, couldn't catch a limit, or I couldn't choose the type of equipment I wanted to fish with, I'd still be out on the water enjoying fishing. That makes me a 5 through and through.

And yet another New Guy!!
I decided a while back that I'd try to welcome all new people to the forum but it has been amazing how many new people have signed on in the last week or so. Welcome, Jolly. That wouldn't be Jolly Old Saint Nick would it?

Cali Hawg Hunters vs Regular Bass Fisherman
Perfectly stated, Rattlinrogue. Supermat, no disrespect intended to Fish Chris or you, but I stick with my contention that Fish Chris can be competitive. It's all in good fun. The competitive spirit comes in different forms for all of us. I myself do not compete against others in fishing, or anything else that I do for recreation. But the fact that we can all debate with our opinions on this forum is a competition in ideas. Hence, we are all competitors to some degree when we joust on this forum. Heck, I'm competing right now.

I would suggest that to her, but I don't sleep well on the couch.

Trimming Brush Guard
I trim mine to where the length extends no more than an 1/8 inch above the hook point. I thin them too by trimming the fibers furthest from the hook the shortest. As I move to the middle of the group of strands and then to the fibers closest to the hook I leave the strands longer.

Cali Hawg Hunters vs Regular Bass Fisherman
Maybe Needemp could have worded things differently but I honestly didn't take his initial post as an insult to trophy bass fishermen. I thought he was saying that trophy fishermen are just different to some degree than tournament or numbers fishermen. I think most recreational anglers do a little of both. Fish Chris stated: ;D I have the utmost respect for your trophy hunting abilities and your opinions, but who are you kidding, Fish Chris? I saw the thread a couple of months back where you debated until the cows came home about the superiority of braided fishing lines. You make sure you know the number of double-digit bass you've stuck so that you can state that number for what reason? Not competitive? Please, Dude. You are competitive to a degree, and there's nothing wrong with that. I think there are arrogant competitors and there are good sports who are competitive. The good sports are fine and I find you to be a good sport. Don't knock being competitive. It is what makes our economic system the best in the world.

New Stratos 176XT
Senile1, Have you had an opportunity to test one out? After the responses here I am even more intruiged by this boat. Seems like the size is not that big a deal if you act responsibly and I'm thinking it may be easier for a newbie to learn on. Thanks for the great input fellas, more is welcome..... Merry Christmas All!!! Riskkid, I haven't tested one yet, but I've been doing a lot of reading. I just had some work performed on my old boat because the prop shaft was bent. I decided it was worth repairing if I want to sell it. I wouldn't want to sell someone a boat that is going to wear out the lower end seals and bearings. I want a new boat but I also need to replace the siding on my house this coming year, and my wife and I have reached the point in our life that we prefer to pay cash for such things. I know we can pay for either the siding or the boat, alone, from cash but we can't do both. I probably won't purchase a new boat until I've put the siding on the house. So, hopefully, I'm looking at later in 2007. Meanwhile, it wouldn't hurt to take it for a test ride, would it?

Re: Biosonix? Looking at getting one.
I throw Rapala crankbaits and while I'm reeling them back in I stick my head under the water and make shad noises. Kevin Van Dam has used it and says he can see a difference. You might google him and the biosonix and see what you can find.
