  1. Sam, you posted on the forum here? You have my phone number, and email address, huh. I am heading back down to NN Thursday going to hit up the Lee Hall Res. with Sean then. Ok, yes I know I am being hypocrictal
  2. This is a great thread! Some funny stuff in here! Kind of makes me suspect the potential list I am handing out to the family, hahah I think the helicopter response was the best!

  5. Ergonomics, if it does not feel good in my hands I will not use it.
  6. A good ole' Rooster tail. Cheap and reliable!
  7. I agree with the go big theory. I have recently caught bass (Thursday) that were in less then 3 feet of water. My point is, I was throwing a 1/2oz. 3-1/8" jerkbait, not something small. (I feel pretty safe in saying the water was about 50 degrees.) I think the bigger lure puts off more vibrations in the water to sturr their interest. But, having said that, I am not a bass pro, KVD should not fear me, hahah!

  10. Hey, curious to see if anyone has been fishing out there lately. I read on the VA dept. of game and inland fisheries website that they will be restocking that place, I guess since April 24th 08, when the upper lake d**n was repaired. If you have been, what did you use? Thanks,
  11. I agree with that. But, if you need mono, Suffix is great stuff!
  12. Hey guys, I am going to be in Richmond tomorrow for the day, seeing if anyone can point me in the direction of a good lake. I grew up in Richmond so, I am fimilar with it. Also, if anyone wants to meet up and fish shoot me a PM. Sam, I better hear from you. We have some fishing, and lying to catch up on!
  13. I have fished that place plenty, never caught a thing out of there! I think there is a spring in the lake that feeds it, because it is always murky.
  14. Yeah, Mirco pretty much hit the nail on the head with NN res. I have fished it going on 5 years now. It can be really good, and it can really tick you off! There are a lot of pickerel in there, they are the dominate spieces for sure. But, I have pulled a couple good sized healthy bass out of there. Having said that, I say if you are going to fish it I say go with perch imatator crankbaits! They do very well for me (DT-4 & DT-6). The key depth is about 6' from the bank. There is a lot of hyrdilla on the bottom of that lake. Flukes work well to in the morning and dusk. Try fishing really close to cover, the fish seem to really hold tight to a lot of the downed trees and branches in the water. The water gets a lot of sun exposure. Also, try fishing the north end of the lake, a lot less pressure, and most importantly, you are away from those annoying paddle boaters who have no manners and will paddle right over where you are trying to fish. Hit me up over PM and I can tell you more specifics. Good luck.
  15. I would suggest putting the time in to get good with them. I never used them at all two years ago, and now Flukes are one of my favorite lures. I think placing the hook correctly is the most difficult part of a fluke. Of course, I say that because I can never quite get a hook properly into a worm.
  16. I like that idea! I am always up for meeting new fishermen, especially Richmond people. Next time I am planning tp be in Richmond I'll put a post up and anyone game, we can pick a time and place to go fishing. That sucks you didn't get anything there at Southlake. Flukes are usually the ticket for me there, but I assumed you threw them. Were the typical "worm drowners," out there? Some of them throw like 1 oz. sinkers, or HUGE bobbers that I am sure spook the bass.
  17. I think that is the name of the lake. It is in a buisness community off Southlake Blvd. This should work to locate it, go to Napa.com and search from stores by zip code. Enter the zip code 23235 and the store should be #1 (but make sure the address is XXX Southlake Blvd). Take the address of that store and enter it into Google for Google Maps and you should be able to see the lake, which is across the street on Southlake Blvd.
  18. I left something out, the cranks I used to catch bass there was the Rapala DT6 so, that should be a target depth to aim for. Good luck (again)!!
  19. Usually crankbaits or flukes was the ticket. Maybe spinnerbaits, but I have a better chance of getting a date with Alyssa Milano then catching a bass on a spinnerbait. Now, I just remembered, there is A LOT of green slim down at the bottom of that lake. So, worms, crankbaits that go deeper then 8' is probably not a good idea. Also, I think I have gotten a couple on jerkbaits here and there, but I would stick with baitfish imitations as a consistent pattern. Good Luck, let me know how you do. PS There is a lot of sun exposure on that lake so, early morning/late afternoon, probably the best times.
  20. Yeah, I like Southlake a lot! Very close to my home in Richmond, and I have done well out of there. Caught a couple 2 and 3 lbers out of there from the bank. You can almost walk all the way around the lake so getting to a particular place is not that difficult. The bass in there seem to be very healthy! I usually fish the side there closest to the NAPA across the street. There is a little "pennisula," bank there if you will. Fish to the left by that tree that is down in the water, deep hole for being so close to the bank. Good Luck!! PS there seem to be a good amount of Crappie in there. Sam and I have fished it together and he was lights out with his little white grub. caught about 8 in 2 hours.
  21. @Hokie, (I graduated from VT in 2003) you know that is a tough lake(s) to fish. I grew up in Richmond/Midlo area, but now live and work in Newport News so, I do not fish it much anymore. I did fish it once last year, from the bank and did alright, two small bass in a couple hours on 4" flukes. But, that was spring fishing, the water was warm, optimal conditions. At this time of year bank fishing, I would go all the way to the end of the road to the lower lake by the dam. It is nothing but big granite rocks down there that make up the first shore that gets the sun in the morning. If I remember correctly, there is a lot of brush to watch out for, so maybe a plastic swimbait (single hook & weedless)? If you have a Jon-boat, I would fish the top lake. I hardly see anyone fishing that lake on a boat, much less limited bank fishing. Therefore, less pressure, more gullible bass. let me know how you do if you go there one day.
  22. you have Southlake, which is off Midlothian Trnpk heading east towards the city, make a right onto Southlake Blvd, Also, you have lakes out in Amelia (west of Midlo). Of course, Swift Creek Res. not too productive from the bank. Once the it gets warmer, James River of course. My personal favorite, (need a truck because it is out in the sticks down a dirt road) The twin Powhatan Lakes, I usually fish the lower lake. Good luck, and keep looking there are plenty of lakes around Midlothan
  23. No Shimano Crucial rod? All of them are good rods, but Crucials are phenomenal rods, not be over looked since they are not that popular.
  24. I have both reels, well I have the 2009 Revo Premire (when Gander Mtn. 1/2 priced them) and Curado 200 E5. Let me start by saying I love both reels! The Revo, I can cast a lure farther, but I feel I have better control in casting with the Curado. I have not used my Revo for the application you are talking about, caveat! I can cast a 5" Texas-rigged weightless Fluke (with a 4/0 hook) a good way (about 50') on my Curado. I just love the centr. brake on the Curado, there is such a big casting "enevolpe," with the Curado, I know I can cast anything, in any condition (with a few minor adjustments). But, I have only had my Revo for 1 month and seen limited action. Maybe, not the indepth answer you are looking for, but I would lean towards the Shimano. I just have surpreme confindence in that reel! Good Luck!
