  1. I have used bait caster almost all my fishing life.. Ive never liked spinning reels and only use them when i have no choice. I set my spool tension as loose as i can get it to where the spool doesnt have side to side play.... and I use my mag breaking control by setting it to where I need it for that weight bait.... Most people will tell you setup your reels spool adjustment to where the lure you are throwing will slowly fall and stop with in 1/2 turn when it touchs the ground.. I dont like no tension on my spool at all.. I pay HIGH dollars to have reels cast as far as i need them to. when do I want to put big bucks in a reel to get better casting and then add spool tenision and go back to where ive started... Ive used BC's forever and i guess my thumb is trained so well I can cast like that I dont know. but anyhow try setting up your reel to have no tension on the spool but tight enough that it doesnt have side to side play and set your mag system to max and try to MAKE SMOOTH cast dont jurk the rod tip around as you cast till you get better... if your reel dont use mag breaks but uses the other breaking system set all your break to ON and learn that way... the reason I say this and I know A LOT of people will not agree with me on this... but if you learn to cast like that you will be able to cast ANY reel with ease Some times I cast with the reel in total free spool mag setting 0 when i really need distance for bass that are schooling 99% of people would have a total handful throwing a reel in total free spool when your throwing it as hard as you can for distance... Im glad I learned the way i did
  2. Daiwa Megaforce at 50 or get on ebay and you can get a new Daiwa exceler for 59.00 it has 9BBs and its ALUM frame and there great quality by FAR the best reel you can touch for under 100.00
  3. How I got my nephew to handle a bait caster and do it well he is 8 Y/O.. Take your reel and turn the brakes to max and then lock the spool adjustment down to where you cant cast more then about 15-20 feet and the reels spool stop when the lure hits the water on its own... so the only thing you need your thumb for is to load the rod when you are making the cast do that for a little and then slightly loosen the spool adjustment to get more and more distance as you train your thumb and learn how to keep everything smooth EVERY ONE gets back lashes it happens dont give up on it once you learn it you wont want to use a spinning reel unless you have to. and while your learning make sure you are casting with the wind and not in to it. once your thumb is trained you can do what you want and shouldnt back lash much... your thumb will get to where you feel the line start to "Fluff up" and react before it turns in to a back lash... I cant remember the last time I had a Birds nest that took more then a few secs to get out... but we all get slight over runs some times just from not paying attention... last thing if you can try to learn on a good quality bait caster that will make a BIG difference fighting a low quality bait caster is not fun... if you want a SUPER easy reel to cast... get you a 90 dollar Daiwa Exceler or TD-PRO there really good quality LP's for the money and have a great IMO the best breaking system of any out there... there smooth and will help you learn to cast!!!!!! Good luck and stay with it! soon you will be rewarded
  4. The warranty is a lifetime warranty if you break it over your knee they dont care and will replace it for you at any place that sales them or if your bought it online and arent close to the retailer they will mail you a brand new rod for 50 dollars.. I broke a Tip on one of mine a few weeks ago being stupid next day walked in to BPS Orlando and went back and picked out the same model rod and that was that I didnt even have to show a receipt.. they dont ask how you broke it or anything just take it back to the returns desk and thats that and its life time. and color wise the LTX models only come in Orange but it looks pretty cool once you get a reel on it.. I didnt like the color when i first seen them and now I like the color.. And The Carrot stix gold model is a goldish orange that slightly changes color as you move it around and with me TD-ITOS on it the look crazy sweet.. take my word when you may hate the color but once you fish one you will love it. nothing even comes close to these rods in till you get up there around 400+ dollars and still then the ease of the warranty and how unbelievably light they are and how comfortable the grip is you willl forget about the color and if you want it to look really cool throw you a Daiwa SOL on it. This is amazing I put a Daiwa Steez BC on a 6'9 MH Carrot stix and weighed it on my digital postal scale and the rig weighed in at 8.7ozs... that whole rig weighs less then one of my zillions just the reel...... and the balance point is so perfect on that setup it needs no counter weight and its as close to being perfectly balanced as it can be. its so light you wont believe it.... I have a TD-ITO TDZ on a carrot stix 6.6 MH XF weighs the same because the shorter rod the TDZ was .4 ozs more then the steez. just buy em and you wont want anything thing else in your hand.
  5. My Swim bait rod is a Carrot stix gold 8' XXH XF rated at 15-30 and 2-5OZ baits I throw BIG swim baits at times and this rod handles well up to about 7OZs its rated 2-5ozs but will handle 6 easy and 7 is pushing it. the matts blue gills is 1 1/2 to right at 2 ozs for the sinker I throw the matts gill alot the floater and the rod I use it with is Carrot stix LTX 7'6 H F rated 15-30 5/8s to 2 1/2ozs I flip/pitch with the same rod as well and one that is strictly for swim baits under 3ozs. My fav rod out of all is the 6'9 parabolic crankin rod, no cranking stick ive ever fished is even close to this rod in crank baiting NOTHING... you can put stretchy mono there is on your real and make the longest cast you can and still feel every wobble of the crank bait.. the rod loads up perfect and has back bone but also a great tip to help keep those stick owners trebles in the fishes mouth. For what your looking for in a rod the 7'6 LTX H will make a sweet small swim bait rod for you...but ill tell you this once you fish one you wont want anything else.
  6. Ive been fishing then since they came out.. after buying a few I fell in love with them! sold off all my loomis and Zillion sticks and replace them with C stixs only other rods I kept was my steez rods.. and to tell the truth I like my carrot stixs better... I loved Gloomis rods but Ive never liked Fuji handles Ive always like Daiwa S handles.. Once i fished the C stix it felt so good (The handle) and comfortable I didnt want to fish nothing else! people talk about how they are by far the most sensitive rods made...... Well I cant say that I will say this though You have all the feel you need with them and then some to spare.. but what really stole my heart was how light they are... 100% the lightest rods on the market.... and To me the best feeling handle of any rod made I do wish they came with Fuji guides TIsics and I would be even more happy with them and I had worries about the guides that are on them but after as much fishing ive done and I mostly fish braid i have not had any problems with the guides... these are 150-200 dollar rods that fish as good if not better then 400+ dollar rods and if you break one walk in to a BPS and its replaced right then and there.. only thing thats kinda silly to me is the fact that they put a balance port on the rod and dont sell weights to do it with... however I have bought some off Ebay called Karrot weights and they work good. I love them and wont fish nothing else as of right now I cant say I wont fish something else tomorrow but as of today I like my orange stixs.. What does every one who owns one think about them? I still have some mint condition Loomis GLX casting rods for sell... if your looking for one or two let me know I may have just what your looking for.
  7. I fished with Silver Thread YEARS AND YEARS ago and always loved it, the AN40 is a awesome line and handles really well! you cant beat it IMO and the price makes it just that much better.. Every reel I own is spooled with Powerpro or An40 on all bait casters... and 6LB an40 on my one and only spinning reel.. I will not use Fluorocarbon as I HATE IT and theres no need for it in 99% of the places i fish down here in FLA.. anyhow you will really like this line.. I never use any line treatment on this line and it casts and handles awesome on my TD-ITO ABS
  8. braid backlashes less IMHO.. and when it does its muchhhhh easier to pick them out.. but some times it can be a pain in the @@@ if you use to thin of braid and it will dig in to its self... I would used no less then 30LB even 30 will still dig in some 40 and up it wont hardly do it at all.
  9. I cant really say how it is to gain deals in fishing.. It is my first love of Sports but as I finished high school I had contracts waiting on me to sign in PRO bowling.. As a youth I had AVGS of 240+ over 140 games 3 straight years in a row.. I totally ruled YABA.. I wouldnt even bowl scratch events anymore because It got to be not a game and I became VERY board with it. I knew I wanted to bowl for a living so I signed a deal with Track Bowling and Dexter shoes.. Before I knew what i was getting my self in to... I was under contract to bowl 7 days a week unless I was on tour and had to travel and I had to have Desk people at bowling alleys sign a form letting my sponsors know that I was bowling and wearing the LOGO... I still till this day bowl on the PBA tour 8th year doing so.. 7 years of that FULL TIME I got so tired of the game I loved so much that I had to change my life TOTALLY to do what I did and in the end I hate bowling... and only do it because I cant find a job that will pay me as high.. This is not saying anything about Sponsors for fishing... and I probably shouldnt even post this here... However all Im getting at by saying this is I wonder is being a BASS touring PRO are much work as the PBA tour is? and are the Sponsors as hard on their pros as mine are on me? I would love to go PRO in this sport but to tell you the truth Im scared because I love bass fishing and I dont want to grow to hate it as i have bowling.
  10. The BEST light bait bait caster there is is the Daiwa Pixy NOTHING and I MEAN NOTHING!!!! can compete with them in the light bait area... I bought Pixys and OMG they will throw anything from 1/16th and up awesome the next choice would be a TD-Z with a ZPI MG spool and sic bearings truely about the only thing that can compete with the pixy and 3rd would be a Alphas... remember this tho adding SIC bearings on any reels spool with make them throw lighter baits a little more easy.. TD-X 103's are good choices too and easy to find on ebay
  11. Im happy with what I have!!!! Rodmen and Stickmarsh/Farm 13!!!!! and Alligator alley I just wish I lived a little closer to them im in upper FL and have to drive 2-3 hours to be happy!
  12. X2 on the SOL its a GREAT reel and cast light baits almost as good as my Daiwa Pixys and nothing cast light baits like a Pixy so thats saying something!
  13. its always a smart move to go with a ALUM framed reel over Graphite if there priced about the same!
  14. for 50 bucks on sale at BPS tomorrow I would 10000000% go with the Accurist PT
  15. and the comment about its like an ugly stick is silly the Extreme is a MUCH better rod! Im not saying there bad rods there just pretty heavy and when your used to fishing really light rods it will feel pretty bad to you! Before I sold mine I used it for a REALLY heavy cover rod with 65LB Powerpro it was a 7'6 H I used it when the cover was so heavy I was scared I would break one of my high end rods... I think they are unbreakable thats for sure! and you do get pretty good feel with them and the handle is SUPER comfortable once again only down fall and what makes them to me not a 100 dollar rod is the weight they are very tip heavy.. but if you put the XPS balance system on it you can change that EASY.. if you want some let me know what actions you are looking for my dad has a few that dont have much use at all he wants to sell for 35.00 each but I dont think he will ship them not totally sure tho... and the guy that said get the BPS crankin stix instead well if you think the extreme is heavy you surely dont want the crankin stix lol
  16. I had one a few months ago that I got in a trade and I was wowed that BPS was trying to sale them for 100.00 they are VERY HEAVY!!!!! they would be a nice rod in the 50 dollar range but there not even close to a 100 dollar rod!!! if you want to spend 100.00 on a rod get a MOJO stick there ALOT better of rods! BPS rods are nice from the Pro/Q and up there new johnny morris sticks are pretty nice for a 200 dollar rod... but you cant find a lot better rod for 150.00 in the carrot stix!
  17. I could pretty much fish whatever I want, at one time I was big time in to Megabass rods.. but at 500 to 800 dollars each I got sick everytime I set the hook in fear of breaking one! so I went to loomis and really liked them... then I fished a carrot stix gold... I sold off every rod I owned other then my Steez rods that my Steez reels are mounted on.. The Carrot stix LTX at 150.00 (130 on ebay free shipping) or what I use the Carrot Stix gold 200.00 are AMAZING rods! there just as if not more sinstive then my Steez rods at 1/3 the price they have a life time over the counter warranty that replaces a broke rod free NQA... they are VERY strong rods and this is a FACT they are the lightest rods on the market I have a TD-ITO on a 6.9 MH it it weighed 9.7OZ on my digi postal scale!!!!! a full rig thats under 10ozs.. but The Daiwa L&T rods are awesome too! and the TD-S rods are as well! they brought them back because so many people kept requesting them too Denny B. can fish any Daiwa rod he wants (450-600.00 Steez) and he still till this day uses the TD-S rods... I have a a TD-S Frog rod I still use and love it
  18. the Daiwa Tierra is 130.00 its a really nice reel holds up for years and cast really good handles light baits 1/8oz well and any thing over 1/8oz it will cast a mile the cast control on it is really good Magforce V is awesome... I fish nothing but Daiwa reels and have fished only daiwa for A LONG time.. to me they are FAR more advanced then any other brand of reels.. My wife uses a Tierra when she hopes in the boat with me and she loves it... she also has a Zillion and a Zillion HLC (Hyper long cast 540.00) and she really likes her tierra she uses it alot because its easier to cast then her super tuned Zillion HLC (Less backlashes for her) its not as smooth nor does it have the casting distance of her zillions but it is more easy to cast then them and has held up VERY well! another reel to look at is the Daiwa TD-Pro you can only get it at Bassproshops it has 11+1 Bearings!!! its 99.99!! it has ALUM face a side plate Daiwas swept handle with bearings in the knobs!! and its very smooth it has a Wiffle spool and Magforce Z and it looks pretty darn sweet too! Also Daiwa has two sizes in reels Small and Smaller they palm so easy and are very comfortable reels if you got 200 bucks Like the other fella said a Mojo stick for 90-95 dollars would be a REALLY nice rod for the price and 99 for the TD-PRO and you got a really sweet rig for under 200 and basspro has the TD-PROs on sale all the time for 70-80 dollars! check them out im sure you will like them!
  19. carrot stix Gold you want light and strong its the lightest out there and a awesome warranty 21CRG621M-F-CW its a 6.2 Med fast tip and weighs 3.0 ozs
  20. I Fish mainly my TD-X's TD-Z's TD-ITO's Zillions and a few Steezand Pixys I got.. I fish nothing but Daiwa and the Exceler is a GREAT reel for 80 bucks, I have 2 of them that I use for salt water as I wont put my high end bass reels in salt water... I fish for Red fish every once in a while and thats what I use them for! they throw lighter baits ok like say 1/8 oz anything over 1/4 oz they throw GREAT.. They have lasted really well even useing them in salt water.. they look pretty cool and to tell you the truth fish about as good as my zillions they just arent as solid feeling but the zillion is more then 3 times the price of it too... they are a tad on the heavy side too.. the palm really well and have a solid frame and are really smooth and like i said cast baits from 1/8 to 1 oz REALLY well... I wouldnt get all 7.1's tho get you a 6.3 and 7.1's the 7.1's have a red anodized spool and the 6.3's have a silverish anodized spool.. the breaking system on the reels is really good as is all Daiwas and you will really like the swept handles on them! Also they dont have Micro click drag or spool adjustment but its a 80 dollar reel! and it fishes like a 200 dollar reel and thats no kidding....if you buy from basspro they have a TD-Pro (you can only get it from bassproshops) its got 11+1 bearings, its the same frame as the exceler and handle and all that but it has bearing supported handle knobs! its 99 bucks but you can get them on sale for 70.00 its color looks SWEET too! all in all they are REALLY REALLY good reels for the price and you wont be dissapointed with the reels I assure you that..it lacks some of the higher end reels features that are there for convienance (I cant spell lol) but they dont lack anything when it comes to performance.. another reel to look at is a Daiwa Tierra my wife has one and loves it...hope this helps ya out in your search!
