  1. I will second the hard hookset. Really cross there eyes! Jim
  2. Jimmy Houston, In-fisherman I really liked. late 80's early 90's. My dad had one of Rick Clunn fishing with Al Lindner. They were fishing around docks with small worms and light line. I am guessing this would have been from the early to mid 80's. Rick caught this monster bass (they both thought it was 10lb) Then drops it back in the lake! He rolled in after it! I still smile when I think of that! Jim
  3. If you can get away with it cover wise, I like to put them on a 3/8-1/2 ounce jig head. Otherwise I use the 4inch on a BPS swimbait hook. I actually like a 5/0 but have used as small as 3/0. Tight lines, Jim
  4. I will start with whatever the day calls for. however, I usually always start with a search bait of some kind. Usually a lipless bait, buzz bait, or crankbait. Jim
  5. I have a 7'0 MH and i love it. If I am remembering right there are the same blank as the mojo. When i bought mine I held it side by side with a mojo, and the full handle won. The split handle on the mojo made it too "tip heavy" for me. I use mine for plastics and jigs. This will be it's third season. I will end up with another one for sure! Jim
  6. I have used my carbonlite for 1.5 years, and I haven't had any grinding issues. Overall they are a nice reel I think! light as can be, and good and sturdy so far.I do wish the drag was a little stiffer, it's 10lbs if I remember right. I use it for cranks and spinnerbaits. Jim
  7. Red eyes here too.... Sexy shad, bone. That is my go to, throw it at anything lipless. The Cordell spots run a little shallower then the RES, and i will use them over grass if needed. Plus if you can Find any of the old spots, they are a "one knocker". I have turned bad days good with those! I used the rippin rap a lot last year. The Bass pro silent version, and the rattling caught a lot of fish for me last year. I have some rattlin rapalas, and the will work once in a while too. Thats the best thing about lipless baits, they are alot of cheap ones, so you can try a bunch of them and see what works! Good luck! Jim
  8. Am I the only one thiks a bass can tell the difference between one large body "fish" coming through the water, and three little "fish"? Is a bass not sensitive to know the difference? If the bass "feels" one larger body, then somehow sees three little fish might it not turn him off? I just think this might be a gimmick. A lot of lakes if you get down 8, 10 feet and visability is going to be a little skechy. I am sure it will catch fish, but I don't think these fish are striking because they think it is multiple fish. Good luck, and I hope you tear them up with it! Jim
  9. I use this rig a lot in the creeks and rivers around here. In fact I have used a "drop shot rig" since i can remember. My dad and his brothers called it a river rig. I will make long casts with it, but I try to stick with small flips and pitches. I think it works best(hung up the least) with casts less than 25 feet. I would make one suggestion; You are going to get hung up fishing creeks in this area! Instead of using a drop shot weight, use split shot. The ss will slide off the tag end of the rig saving the hook and plastic. I like enough weight to keep it ticking the rocks in the "main channel", that way it will drop into eddies and slack behind current breaks. As far as what to use, try everything! I use this rig in summer with a hellgramite or stone cat copy. Good luck! Jim
  10. My only thought on this bait is this: Water. A bass can "feel" the difference in one large object moving through the water as opposed to two or three little ones. Fill a tub with water and put in both hands. Move just the fingers of one hand, then make a fist and swish it around. They feel different to your other hand. They might work, but i wouldn't pay extra for a "pretty" crankbait. Jim
  11. Try not looking at the bait. Watch where you are going cast next, or look for wild life, or whatever. My hookup percentage is so much higher since i stopped watching my topwaters. Jim
  12. I know what Lake your talking about, and you are right on about it. I have fished there twice. I did real good in the spring, but I went up earlier this month and only caught two. That is the deal with these smaller Pa lakes in this area; Canoe creek, shawwnee, gallitzen. You are right about the trout ;-) thats the price for the good fishing around here, lots of fisherman too! Good Luck!! Jim
  13. I still throw a few of the old Mann's 30+ too. That sucker is a thumper! Fish all day with it and you know it! I also throw the Rapala DT's, a few 6xd's, and DD22's. The Normans get fewer bites for me, but they are big ones usually. Deep cranking is my favorite way to fish, and it is worth learning how to do it just for "mapping out" areas to fish with a worm or jig for example. Jim
  14. How many cast would an elite pro make a day? I am guessing over 10,000. that's a lot of repetition over four days of competition. Roids don't just make you bigger, they also help you heal. I would like to think it's not an issue, but I know one thing: If there is a winner and a loser, there are cheaters. good luck, stay pumped, Jim
  15. Strike king tournament model I think, Maybe the pro model, I can't remember. Chartruse is my go to color, but I also throw a sexy shad in really clear water. I do throw black, but they are home made and i mostly throw the black at night. I am going to go buy a cavitron, I hear nothing but good things about them. Good luck, Jim
  16. I was fishing with a friend back in high school, and he caught a 18-20 inch bass on a bunch of sinkers and two or three hooks threaded together. He was reeling it back in as fast as he could and bang it hit it. He was trying to snag turtles actually! To this day I still hear about it from him! Bass will hit all kinds of things no matter how much it costs. Jim
  17. Try throwing ahead of you, parallel with the bank. Especially if there is grass out from the bank a few feet. I like to keep the bait just on the outside edge of grass like this. Usually there is some type of depth change where the weeds stop. Good luck, I know I almost always have a lipless bait tied on, and catch a ton of bass on them. Also, be ready to loose some fish, that's part of the game with these baits. Go get em! Jim
  18. Mine is Fair Spanish Lady, after the song Quint is singing in Jaws. I also refer to it as the moving chicane when other boats are blasting past it! Jim
  19. Parts of Pa are very southern like. Pittsburg on one end, Philly on the other and Alabama in between :-)
  20. Looks really nice!!! I could even see some walleye hitting that thing! Love it. Jim
  21. Flukes, 4inch curl tail worms have been hot for me this year. I also like 4in and smaller craw baits. Jim
  22. my dad has 7' mh that I have handled and fished with a few times. He loves it, and I think it is a really nice rod. I think I will buy one for myself at some point in time. Glad you like it, and hope you catch some big girls on it! Jim
  23. I have never fished a Cavitron per say, but in heavy weeds i will fish a buzzbait all day. Other than that, like everyone else says, lowlight conditions. Jim
  24. When I first stocked my wifes tacklebox I put in: 3/8 white spinnerbait (willow/colorado), Original shap rap, rattle trap (med size), floating rapala (any size, but I think #5!), 4in and 6in worms. (Purple, black/blue, white), Buzzbait. I consider those the Baisc need to have lures. Good luck! Jim
