  1. I am heading to Bass Pro tomorrow and would like to get a new spinning rod and reel for mostly throwing finesse plastics (Senkos, tubes, shaky heads etc.). I would like to stay around $200. Any suggestions? Thanks
  2. I live in Grantville which is just outside of Harrisburg. I have to agree that this area is much better as far as crime goes as compared to York or Lancaster. I have lived in this immediate area almost all my life (lived in MD for 6 years) and its a great area to work and live. Also, as stated above Harrisburg is a small city with most of the surrounding towns being pretty rural so there is plenty of oppurtunity to teach at a smaller rural school and still be within minutes of the city. As far as the fishing in the Susquehanna goes it has definitely declined in recent years in this area. It is still pretty decent though. It seems that although the quantity seems to have lessened I have been catching larger fish in general. The illness that has been killing the fish mostly effects the young, and it looks like that has also been declining gradually. The PA Fish and Boat site (http://www.fish.state.pa.us) has some info on it if you are interested. Look under Featured Topics > Susquehanna Smallmouth mgmt.
  3. I just saw the past 2 years Citgo Classic Adventure tournements on ESPN. They went fishing for peacock bass in Venezuela. The topwater hits were insane! Plus, they fight like crazy. One guy probably put it best when he said they fight like a smallmouth on steroids. Some guys broke several rods fighting them. On the first show the largest caught was 14.5 lbs, and on the second show they caught several over 20 lbs!
  4. I think he was from "Love Connection". I looked up the DVD on Google, and it is in fact the same Chuck Woolery.
  5. I remember reading the post and the recipients did respond saying they had recieved their stuff and were very appreciative. I could not seem to find the original post though.
  6. Originally from central PA near Hershey where I mostly fished local streams, ponds, and the Susquehanna River near Harrisburg. I know live in northern MD, but have still been doing most of my fishing up in PA (my parents still live up there and I do not have a boat yet so I use my Dad's.) I am planning on doing some more fishing in my area at some of the local reservoirs and rivers. If anyone here fishes in MD and has any suggestions for good locations please PM me.
  7. I know some others mentioned seagulls, and I just did catch one a few weeks ago while on a trip in Canada. I was using a topwater and it just swooped down and hooked itself. I reeled it in and my friend held it while I removed the hook. It did not happen to me, but I had a friend who was fishing a lake in Canada when he set his rod down for a minute and a fish took of with it. Then 2 years later his uncle snagged the rod and pulled it back out of the lake.
  8. Hi all. I found this site last week and have been reading all the great info here. I thought it would be appropriate to join the forums and introduce myself. I have been fishing recreationally for as long as I can remember. I grew up in central PA near Hershey. When I was young I did alot of trout fishing with my Dad, and we even had a stream on our property that we would stock ourselves by fishing the local streams, saving the fish in a cooler, and releasing them on our property. We also did some fishing on the Susquehanna River near Harrisburg, PA. About 5 years ago I moved to northern MD, and since then have only done some occasional fishing with my Dad on the Susquehanna when visiting. I decided this year I would try to make some more trips to the river. Needless to say I have once again caught the "fishing bug". What really got me hooked was a bachelor party trip for a friend who is a very avid fisherman to Big Rideau Lake in Canada. That was an absolute blast! While we did not catch any very large fish we did manage to reel in alot of small to medium size largemouth, some perch, and even a few pike. Plus, nothing beats renting two large pontoon boats and goin out fishing with 10 friends for a few days. After that trip I decided I need to find some bass fishing near my home. To my suprise I found that I live very close to Loch Raven Resevoir in MD which I have heard has some excellent bass fishing. While have have not had time to try it out yet I did take a few days to go visit my Dad and fish the Susquehanna, and a very large pond that one of his hunting buddies owns. I actually met with some degree of success which has hooked me even more. Since I do not want this to turn into a wall of text I will post that in the Outing section.
