  1. "TunaBoating" is something we used as kids to refer to setting a hook so hard that the fish flies over everyones head onto the bank behind you. As kids we would fish for catfish and big carp using heaving weights in the river. Sometimes it would be a small sunny and would go airborne. You would yell "TunaBoat" and everyone would hit the deck. I still use the phrase to this day when someone catches a small fish and yanks the fish out on the hookset.
  2. Sounds like good tips for the whole MidAtlantic/ NE Region. We got 8-10" of rain in 24 hours last Saturday and it's been drizzling and raining ever since. They had actually closed some boat launch areas 2 days before the rain started because the water was so low. I will be out this weekend though, I just bought a new rainsuit.
  3. Uh Oh, the secrets out! Bass fishing reminds me more of the motorcycle industry than Nascar, which people seem to comapre it to. Anyone, can get directly involved for a small or modest investment and you can be a weekend warrior or go completely insane till it becomes an obsession. ;D
  4. Wilkommen. Don't know about the karting tips, but great bassing info here.
  5. I've been living where I'm at now for 25 years and I still get the maps out and go to online map sites and just search for bodies of water. Pennsylvania's Fish and Boat website has a list fishing spots by county and I search all the time for spots that I may be going near. Maybe your new state does too.
  6. I wondered about these also, you would think that someone figured out a fix or tweak to get them to operate correctly. They probably work in a test aquarium, but are no good under real conditions. I'd like to find one cheap and crack it open, see what the problem is. I'm no electronics expert, but I know some that might like the challenge.
  7. I just purchased a Fenwick for crankin and I was using it in about 2' of fast moving river water. Bouncing the lure off the bottom on the retrive I was amazed at how much better I could feel the ticks and wobbles, I lost contact with the lure, but it wasn't till a split second later I saw the line move sideways that I set the hook. Next time I won't wait for the movement. I landed that smallmouth, but maybe I missed some before that.
  8. I've had this happen and there always seems to be turtles around.
  9. Let us know how you do. The same front is passing through Pennsylvania today (thurs AM). My son is coming home for the weekend and we plan on getting the boat out. It is supposed to warm up a bit for the weekend so I'm still planning on hitting the smaller 70 acre lake first.
  10. Bill Dance or Roland Martin was talking about this on one of their shows this summer. Of course not only do I forget which one, I also forget what they said. It did have to do with the depth and the light that gets through.
  11. If they are out there fishing regularly and enjoy fishing someday in the future they will run into somebody worse than them. They'll think what a jerk the guy is and in the back of their mind will see themselves and maybe change their ways.
  12. I've had to do a lot of bank fishin since my son is back in college and the fishing pressure has been tremendous at the easy to reach spots on the lakes. I'm hiking out to some spots on the Schuykill river for some Smallies next week and taking my 12 year old daughter out this weekend at the local ponds and lakes. I'll get her up to speed and next year hope to get her out on the boat.
  13. Since I got this little jon boat I'm terrified of this happening. I told my son as long as the water is above 60 and the depth is less than 20 feet be ready to go in after any stuff overboard. I don't dress with anything that I can't swim in on a minutes notice.
  14. There must be a lot of new members from my area. They join here and learn good tips and then clean out all the local spots. Now I know why the fish have been scarce the last two weeks. The good thing about that is that now I have to dig deeper into the tackle box and try new stuff.
  15. That's a two Fer Prezs 41 and 43. As they said in nam, "Clinton don't fish"
  16. Didn't want to start a new thread, but I've seen here and elsewhere that the Palomar should be tightened down after wetting by pulling the TAG end only and others say pull both ends. I just watched myself tie it and I pull the tag till it' closes up a bit and then both ends tight. I haven't used it all that much, but I don't want to find out at the wrong time I'm doing it wrong. Anybody have problems with either of these ways?
  17. On ESPN2 Friday (9/16) morning they had the 85 and 86 Classics highlights. Jimmy Houston was in the running and they highlighted the Roll Cast a bit. I've used it without thinking when my wrist gets a little sore to mix it up a bit.
  18. The Bait Monkey that lives in my closet: " I need BAIT"
  19. OK, I know what a DINK is, but is that short for anything? Like "DI?" Not Keeper, I know they used to call yuppies with No Kids DINKS, Dual Income No Kids.
  20. The "Classic Patterns" series mentioned above is being shown on Comcast Sportsnet, at least on the Philly outlet. I caught an episode last Wed. afternoon on cold weather patterns by accident. I checked and another episode is on this Wed @ 12:30 PM. I already have the VCR ready.
  21. I've been on permanent disability for 10 yrs now. I work part time as computer tech. Doing housecalls long before the GeekSquad came around. I use some of the road jobs to scope out new lakes. The hours are fantastic for fishing (I have the alarm set for 5am already), but the all the back surgeries are not. I can't stay in the jon boat for more than an hour and once this year my back went out on me fishing from the bank on level ground and I was by myself. Took me 10 minutes to shuffle 50' to the truck. Oh, you can use a heavy Rhino rod as a cane in emergencies.
  22. If it is electric motors only, I would say the guy was way out of line.
  23. I should've pointed out that they must've been dragging or driving them things along the banks. Where I'm standing and to the monsters was almost all weeds and vegetation on the surface.
  24. I almost have you beat. I went out this morning before sunup to one of my local spots to bank fish. I'm wondering where all of the weeds and vegatation that the bass have been hanging under has gone to. As It gets a little lighter I look down to my right and see this: They are having a Scot-Irish Festival on the park near by and bought along the flippin Loch Ness monster and its twin.
  25. The one problem with mounting some pedastals is I have 4" clearance to put the boat on the roof racks. I found ones that would work, but if the seats don't fold down low enough I would have to remove them by hand each trip. Quick release seats are out of the budget Direct mounting would be cheaper and even if the seats go a little over 4" I would just have to put the boat on from the side rather than sliding it on from the back. Thanks for the replies, as you can see I'm already rethinking as a type. Bill
