  1. I used the BR calculator on Father's Day. I did a google search for "bass weight calculator" and the first hit was right here on BR. I knew we had the formula here, but I was unaware there was the automated calculator. 23"x16"= 7.05 Lbs. and a Father's Day Smile
  2. Probably 90% of the waters I fish don't even allow gas engines. I'd love to have a nice bass boat, but it seems like such a waste seeing the guys/gals using trolling motors only in them. I use a lil Jon boat with transom mount trolling motor and my only complaint is the cramped quarters. I still do a lot of bank fishing in the local waters when I just want a quick trip without all the hassles. However, my son is in his last year of college and just last night I told him we should buy a nice bass rig after he gets his high paying job after school
  3. I was thinking of getting a set of them earphone things for cell phones. Not to talk or listen, but maybe people won't stare as much when I'm talking to myself.
  4. On trebles I've cut the hook with as much shank left as possible with wirecutters and pushed it the rest of the way through and out. This doesn't work all the time. I had one in my finger last year and couldn't push it through because of the bone. I had to cut along side it and pull it back out. Dang thing was sore all summer too. Right where you grip the rod handle.
  5. It seems like every 7-8 years that the advertising industry goes nuts. It isn't just fishing, that's for sure. It is usually the automobile ads that start some disturbing trend. I was complaining the other weekend that most ads now a days make me NOT want to associate with the product. I agree that some of the behaviour in the ads is Illegal, escpecially in car commercials. You can add small disclaimers and I guess it is ok to show drivers going 100+ MPH on a back road like the one I live on and small children are playing near.

Rule 4: Don't talk about Fight Club. Oopps, that is the other club I'm in.
  7. THANK YOU!! For a job well done. At least I hope it was a job well done. That "paroled" thing had me a little scared. 8-)
  8. I think that guy needs to change his shorts after he gets a band aid.
  9. Good thing he didn't get caught fishing w/o license in Philly. We would never have heard from the guy again ;D
  10. I always go weightless when possible in shallow vegetation. To me though the next best thing is Carolina Rig. You have weight to get down in the vegetation, but the bait is still pretty much free to move around.
  11. You know you bass fish when.... You complain that there aren't any clouds and it's too darn sunny.
  12. A reminder that in my state (PA) right now it is illegal to keep any bass. I would have to cut 'em loose even if I knew it was going to die or be a state record!
  13. Crankbait to find them, but I like to use a Carolina Rig on pressured lakes with vegatation once I know where they are. I rarely see anyone else using them and I always have one rigged up.
  14. No advice, but good luck with the new boat. Don't forget the oars
  15. I went with Vertical Structure, but only because of where I was fishing today. My son wanted to fish the timber and that is where he caught his only fish. I caught my 2 on vertical rock ledges out of the back of the boat in 62' surface water temp. Steep rock ledges in 20+' of water. They both hit at about 6' deep along the rocks within 10' from the shore. We just had a cold front come through (frost!) and I guess they dropped out of the shallows and clung to the drop offs.
  16. T_D, thanks. I was out today looking at boats at Green Lane to see if anybody had one for sale. My wife picked up the Sunday paper from where she works and was going to look through that later too. I never even tried craigslist. I thought that was an online dating thing. I have some money leftover from the new car I bought my wife and if I don't get on the ball I'll end up handing it all to the bait monkey!! I bid on a Hi Speed reel on ebay and then found a better deal. I was hoping I'd get outbid on the other, but it looks like I may end up with 2 of them.
  17. What part of PA are you in? I'm looking for a boat like that if you don't buy it. I have a small Jon boat that was under my brother in-laws garage for years. I took it and use without a trailer and just throw it on my roof racks. However, it was old and didn't have a hull number and I couldn't read the serial number. I don't think it cost extra, but I had to get a title for it and make a plate with the hull number that Pennsylvania supplied and rivet it to the boat. I did have to sign a bunch of papers saying that the boat wasn't stolen and that there was no chain of possesion with receipts available. So make sure you get the proper receipts and titles. Other than that Team_Dougherty supplied all the info you need.

  19. Shotguns, M-80's ? Spooked Fish? I think I know why they are spooked. ;D
  20. This sounds like good Talk Radio material. Might be a good idea to contact some of the more popular hosts. I've seen them really put the heat on officials. Most times they'll tell you that they have no choice because of lawsuits by the wacky anti-human crowd.
  21. I just got a '03 Blazer with V6 4.3L. I still didn't get a trailer and boat combo and when I do I'll likely use my Cherokee which already has all the wiring and hitch. However, I ran into some problems with the Cherokee and my wifes car totally went (head gasket). That is why I bought her the Blazer. The Jeep Cherokee seems to be OK for now, but the recent problems got me a bit spooked and one of the reason I wanted the Blazer is just in case I have to go without my vehicle for awhile. I know some of you guys have Blazers and I was wondering how they are for towing a smaller boat and trailer. I've been looking for a 14'-17' boat and trailer. Not a heavy one, just an aluminum V boat. The Blazer is just a standard 4x4 NOT a Z24. What kind of hitch works and do I have to do any wiring work? Thanks, Bill
  22. That is what I was thinking too. I started carrying my flyrod with me for times like this. You'd find out real quick what they are. If they are bream, I'd bet the bass would be hanging close by and eating them.
  23. In the late 80's I had a job offer in San Diego. I was even flown out there to check it out. I was always glad I didn't take it and stayed back East, but everytime I see these huge bass when the water is still in 40's here??? Well, it makes me wonder, what if. :'(
  24. Years ago when I first bought an aquarium I asked about what fish species eat other fish. The answer I got was that any fish will eat any fish it can get in its mouth.
  25. That is surprising, but I know that I like the smell of gas and oil, but I know it poisonous and fish don't. It might get their attention, but they'd probably spit it out quicker than if a lure didn't have it on. Evens things out.
