Smokin
Wednesday afternoon made a fast trip to the big pond and smoked them like a cheap cigar; first bass was 10. 66, second bass 10.89, third bass 8.99 for a 3 bass total of 30.54 & finished with a total of 8 more between 3 & 5 lbs. I had these beautiful pictures but we got caught in a thunderstorm never realizing my camera was in my attack bag in the back of the truck ruining the camera.

Downsize Or Upsize?
Same baits all year just slow down Slow metabolism doesn't mean bass eat less; it means it takes a bass longer to digest what it ate.

Cold Front Fishing
Yesterday I gave my plan for attacking this lake under these conditions; this morning I did a little more detailed research and this is what a local guide has to say about Shearon Harris during late fall and winter fishing. Check it out http://www.carolinaoutdoors.net/WinterHarrisstory.html

Not doing anymore business with BPS
To bad you don't know someone who worked at Academy; they could get your Pflueger reels at 25% off, the Purist is on sell for $49.99 minus 25% is $37.49.

Cold Front Fishing
I totally disagree with the small bait theory: Feed efficiently = Maximize food intake and minimize energy output I would throw a Texas Rigged Craw Worm in the 6 variety & a 3/8 oz Jig-N-Craw & I would throw these around any available wood near creek channels. I would also wait & go Saturday because if you click on Saturday it shows warmer temperatures during mid-day plus the cloud cover will hold the temperature in. the frontal conditions appear to be coming in Thursday night therefore Friday will be the first day of the front with Saturday being the second & Sunday starting a warming trend.

Texas Fishing reports
Lake Abilene Location: On Elm Creek 20 miles south of Abilene Surface area: 595 acres Maximum depth: 25 feet Impounded: 1921 After several years of low water levels, this lake nearly filled in fall 2004, coming within one foot of spillway level. The lake was stocked with channel catfish and blue catfish in 2004; largemouth bass and white crappie in 2005. Angling opportunities will improve over the next few years, especially if water levels stay reasonably high. Historically, flipping brushy cover for largemouth bass and crappie was a good technique, especially since the water is so muddy. Lake Fort Phantom Hill Location: On Elm Creek in Taylor County, 15 miles north of Abilene Surface area: 4,213 acres Maximum depth: 66 feet Impounded: 1938 A contour map for this reservoir is available from TPWD Inland Fisheries, 5325 N. 3rd, Abilene, Texas 79603, (325) 692-0921. Blue catfish, hybrid striped bass, and white crappie provide the most consistent fishing opportunities at Fort Phantom Hill. Largemouth bass can occasionally be good as well. Florida largemouth bass were introduced in 1976. Largemouth bass fishing can be good, especially in the summer and winter. Slow-rolling spinnerbaits along the steeper rocky areas of the east side during the winter is effective. As summer approaches, buzzbaits and spinnerbaits work very well, especially from sunrise till about noon. OH Ivie Reservoir Location: On the Colorado and Concho Rivers in Concho, Coleman, and Runnels counties, 55 miles east of San Angelo Surface area: 19,149 acres Maximum depth: 119 feet Impounded: 1990 Fishing Cover/Structure Cover in the reservoir is primarily standing timber. The trees and brush were not cleared from the reservoir basin before the lake was impounded, so there are thousands of acres of flooded mesquite, oak, and juniper trees in all parts of the reservoir. Flooded saltcedar also makes up a large proportion of the fish cover. Native vegetation and hydrilla occurs in the main part of the lake and is spreading up the Colorado River and Concho River arms. The structure in the main part of the reservoir is mostly rock. In the river arms it is mostly mud flats. Largemouth bass are caught using live bait and artificial baits around the aquatic vegetation and standing timber. Another effective bass technique is flipping jigs or soft plastics into the saltcedar. Trophy-sized fish are caught on Carolina-rigged plastic worms, minnows and water dogs fished off deep (20+ feet) humps and drop-offs.

No love for left-handed baitcasters?
Ok here is the 411; when the bait casting reel was invented the person who invented it was left handed, he would cast with his left hand and reel with his right hand therefore most reels are actually left handed reels. In later years manufactures continued to build reels in the same manner which force right handed anglers to either hold the reel upside down or switch hands after casting in order to feel comfortable. Palming became popular during the late 70s when companies started building smaller reels, ever try palming an Abu Garcia Ambassaduer 5000?

You might be a hardcore bass fisherman if.......
Showed up at work at 5:00 am with your boat in tow, hung 100 sheets of sheetrock by 5:00 pm, drove 2 ½ hours to the lake, fished all night, won the tournament, drove 2 ½ hours back to the job site and worked another 12 hour shift. Took a 72 hour acoustical ceiling contract at McDermott Shipbuilding Co., New Iberia LA; completed the job in 4 days by working 18 hours a day just so you could spend the next 3 days on the lake. Fished 18 to 20 hours straight many time just cause they are biting

A Tasty Treat
Grilled Venison Tenderloin Tenderloin: The part of the body of a quadruped on either side of the backbone and between the ribs and hips. Venison is a delicious meat, but it tends to be dry. To retain moisture, inject with an injectable marinade and slow roast. I prefer the original Cajun Injector by Bruce Foods in their Creole Butter receipt (http://www.brucefoods.com/) Prep Time: 1 ½ hours Yields: 8 servings Comments: For best results, build a coal bed on one side of the grill. Place tenderloin away from hot coals, so it will receive medium-high heat. Ingredients: 3 or 4 lb tenderloin 1 16 fl oz Creole Butter marinade Zatarain's Creole Seasoning Method: Inject tenderloin with a whole bottle of Cajun Injector Creole Butter and coat tenderloin with Zatarian's. Cook tenderloin, turning once halfway through cooking process. Remove when internal temperatures reach 130F for rare to 150F for well done.
