  5. I agree with cart7's assessment and will add to be a successful angler you must be all four; as cart7 stated A pattern fishermen first has to find the "spots" that are holding fish and this is true but so does a lake fisherman or bass fishermen. While I fish Toledo Bend more than any other lake I still look at seasonal patterns, weather patterns (patterns that work better during certain weather conditions), and then I look for specific patterns such as bait types, cover types, water depths ect. When I fish lakes I have never been on or haven't fished in years I approach them same way.

  18. Move up to 12 wheels, you will still have bounce but not a drastic; your problem is your rig doesn't weight enough for the suspension to work properly. Mount the motor permanently by bolting it through the transom and then adding a motor lock. Fill the gas tank to the max, drop it in behind the rear seat, and place your ice chest with ice/drinks in front of the rear seat. This additional weight well help smooth out the ride
  19. I've been around boats my entire life (56 yrs) and I've never seen strakes riveted or welded on; they are press formed into the bottom of the boat. In 15 yrs as a manufacturing engineer I've don't remember rivets breaking but rather the rivet hole becomes elongated and then the rivet rips through the sheet aluminum.
  20. Oldham's Lures Trailer Hitch Jig, 3/8 oz Black/Blue
  21. Russ buy your aluminum extrusions from Lowe's or Home Depot, they don't cost that much and Matt 5.0 can handle the welding easily. Forget the rivets they will not hold, after dragging the boat a few times they will work loose and then you have to drill holes in the hull to install them. Weld it and be done with it! FYI: TIG welding (heliarc) for thin metals; is slower than MIG welding, but it allows for more welder manipulation. MIG welding used for welding plate (over 1/4-inch thick), where deeper penetration of the weld is required.

Now y'all starting to think; my secret big bass baits is a Texas Rigged Jig, I've thrown it for years. Back in the early 70's we would force a bullet weight into a skirt which aint easy, in the early 80's Big Red's Enterprises of Bossier City, LA invented the Big Red's Flying Jigs. This is simply a spinner bait head with out the wire or hook; you slide your line through it like a bullet weight, tied your hook on, your favorite plastic and fished it like a Texas rig. The idea behind it was the skirt added bulk which slowed the fall rate and gave your plastic an overall larger profile; as stated above it's a different action than a jig. I still throw this rig today with a craw worm during late fall and winter with outstanding result on quality bass.
  23. FYI: The Low Profile Reel The legendary Lew Childre, inventor of Lew's Speed Spool and Lew's Speed Stick. The Lew's Speed Spool was noted for its small size and narrow reel, designed to make longer casts. The Lew's Speed Spool and Speed Stick, revolutionized bass fishing and became one of the first pieces of mass-marketed competition equipment for bass fishing tournaments. Lew Childre also assisted in the development of the Fuji guide, which reduced line friction and resulted in longer cast and less line wear. Lew Childre's company was eventually bought out by Shimano after his death in an airplane crash.
