In a reservoir/impoundment the shore line will change with erosion; the river/creek channels will only change with water flow and most reservoir/impoundments don't have enough water flow to make that drastic of a change. The flats, humps, ridges, drop offs, points where creeks intersect ect will remain pretty much the same as before the reservoir/impoundments were flooded. Hydrographic charts are a topo of a natural lake where it is impossible for human surveys

bassindon69, I respectfully disagree every one of my DD bass came on small baits; this is not saying big bait don't catch big bass but so does small baits. Now let me clarify my bass were caught on 7 1/2 & 9 worms and a ½ oz Rat-L-Trap. If you throw a Huddleston Prototype 12 Shad in the wrong place it aint gonna catch a DD bass cause the DD bass aint there. I recall Fish Chris recently catching a DD on a Huddleston Bug and as Matt Fly can verify one of the biggest bass caught in Texas was on a crappie jig. Fish Chris said it in a round about way but I'll say it straight up If you do what you've always done, you'll get what you always got

Location is the key not the bait; you can throw all the big bass baits in the world but if you aint in the right location you aint gonna catch no big bass.

Hydrography, partly for reasons of safety, tends to be more traditional in outlook and has conventions that are not entirely "scientific" in some views. For example, hydrographic charts will usually tend to over represent least depths and ignore the actual submarine topography that will be portrayed on bathymetric charts. The former are the mariner's tools to avoid accident. The latter are best representations of the actual seabed, as in a topographic map, for scientific and other purposes.

#1: Spots where two creeks intersect or where a feeder creek intersects with the main river are areas experienced deep water anglers seeks. Inside the Y created by the intersection is where you want to target #2: Underwater islands, mounds, or humps are a deep water angler's delight; these spots are especially productive when power is being generated at the dam, causing a current in the reservoir. Bait fish will gather on the upper end of these mounds and the bass will bunch up to feed on them. When located near a creek or river these areas can be your big bass hole. #3: Outside bends of a river or creek are common hangouts for deep water bass. Because of the water flow in the river or creek a ridge has been formed on the outside of the bend; find the point of these ridges #4: Submerged roadbeds should never be overlooked, locate these on a topographic map, then pinpoint with your depth finder. These are common migration routes to and from spawning areas in the spring, they also hold feeding bass in the summer. Seek out 12 to 18' depths where a sharp drop off occurs on each side of the roadbed.

We understand what being a newbie is about, we were there once You said The reason I have not tried spoons yet is because it was about dark when I got to the spot & I didn't think they would see it or feel the vibration. I didn't know fish can still see so well in the dark (I know better now). I haven't tried some of the other baits yet because I don't have any of them. My buds report states Night time bite has been a little slow, some things to try are the classic jig and pig, jig and craw, Texas rig worm, salty crawl and a Yum Craw Papi 4in, I caught some real good fish on Tuesday night using this lure. Texas rigged and working deep water.

Bass can be hard to catch in clear water during daylight, not so much because they are shy and spooky, but rather because they are bold enough and curious enough to swim right up and see what you are. Darkness covers up an angler's presence and most of all his mistakes. Ring Rascal has a worm color called Starry Night; it is dark smoke on top, clear smoke on the bottom with lots of silver glitter in the clear. This goes color against every thing you hear about night fishing, when everyone says I should be using dark colors I slay them on this color.

I hook mine on the reel and the twist the line around the rod 4 or 5 times taking slack out of the line. Even with a Texas Rig nothing touches the rod and with round bend hooks the point never touches anything. The only time I do any thing different is with a Carolina Rig; I simply wrap a small piece of Velcro around the weight so it doesn't bounce against the rod.
