  1. Thats just part of fishing. I try hard to not beat up my gear, but it is going to happen eventually no matter what you do.
  2. That stinks. I've used Charlie's Worms for a long time. I think I still a single package of their paddletail shads here. Great baits.
  3. I've caught a couple of big rays before, that is one awesome fight. I've never hooked up with a large AJ before, the smaller ones that I've caught though have been fantastic fights. I think my favorite fighting fish is probably a large tuna, wahoo, or kingfish though. Just the sheer power and long runs they make is awesome. Make sure you've got some decent gear though or you may be buying a new reel after hauling in a decent fish. Big Dolphin can be fun too, but the fights don't last all that long unless you're using light tackle.
  4. Love my 6'9" MH x/fast Carbonlite. Ultra lightweight, very sensitive. Makes a fantastic worm and jig rod.
  5. Zoom swamp crawler in Green Weenie. Nose hooked with a drop shot hook. Without the drop shot weight. It barely sinks, work it in and around sparse surface vegetation. Doesn't target the big fish, but it can put a limit in the boat fairly quickly in the right areas. The only drawback is that you can't cast it super far because it's just ridiculously light. I've got fly's that weight more. Man I wish I could find those locally more often. Love that worm.
  6. It's real hard for me to go out now without some kind of wacky worm tied on if the bite gets really tough. In the summer when the fish are holding a little deeper (at least down here) on some of the ledges and drop offs in deeper water, I love to have a flick shake tied on. Allows you to get a wacky worm down quicker into the deeper water. For me at least, it can turn a bad day into a productive day fairly quickly. Theres just something about that worm wiggling like that in deeper water that fish can't resist. Going with your strengths is definitely some sound advice. If you're good with deep cranks and t-rigs, I would start with that for certain. When you find fish, saturate the area until you find what pattern the fish are really hitting on. Thankfully it doesn't take that long to change out lures and or rigs if you need to.
  7. I absolutely love night fishing. Like Shane said, the sound of a strike on a topwater at night is just unbelievable. Night fishing also forces you to develop you sense of feel with your rod. You can really learn how to use a worm or a jig if you fish them enough at night.
  8. Do a search here on BR on the 570. Myself and a few other people have had serious issues with that unit. I'd stay away from it.
  9. Tee hee. Man that looks nice. Riley's already working more magic. Bosh and LeBron come on sign and trades instead of outright contracts. Looks like Mike Miller is close to signing as well.
  10. I understand that they can be very good to eat. I've had it before in some of the small villages in the Bahamas. It's more of a pain in the butt in the fact that when I'm targeting other species, you either get broken off or your quarry gets chewed in half. Trust me, I don't mind the fight at all. But if I'm fishing for grouper, snapper, dolphin, etc et I'd rather catch them then deal with a big ole toothy critter that I don't intend on eating. Gotta love the cuda tubes though. I've still got a few sitting in my box for those days when you just want something to tug on the other end of the line. Great lure.
  11. Oooh, me three. Thanks, Sam.
  12. Great fish, Shane. Heck of a Cuda. For such a pain in the butt fish, they sure put up an awesome fight.
  13. I've got braid on all of my setup except my cranking rod. Fluoro leader on all of them. I'll go straight braid if I'm fishing at night for an extended period of time, in dirty water, or very heavy cover. Sure, the wind can make it a little aggravating at times, but it's nothing that I can't deal with.
  14. I've used and abused my PQ's. They get fished every single day. Rain or shine. I've never had a problem with one of them. General maintenance throughout the year and call it a day. Once a year I do a good solid cleaning and re-lubing to clean out all the accumulated gunk buildup. If I were to do anything to them, it may be to just swap out the knobs to eva foam ones if I can get some that fit on the cheap. They are by far the best reel you can buy for the money. On sale, it's a ridiculously good buy.
  15. Actually, he's making less than he would in New York. There, he would have had a max contract. In Miami, he won't. He's taking probably two million less than he would in New York, Chicago, etc etc. Yes, in Cleveland with the current CBA he would have banked quite a bit more.
  16. Is 3/8" the inside diameter? If so, that sounds kind of fat. And do you run the hook thru the heat shrink or under the heat shrink? Thanks. Through the heat shrink. I don't remember if it was ID or not though. Was from Home Depot. It's garbage heat shrink, but for worms it works just fin. Clear package with a red paper label stapled to the top of the bag.
  17. Wow, great fish right there. Bet that was a ridiculously fun strike to see happen on top.
  18. Don't kid yourself. Miami will have a good team, a very good team. Mike Miller may be signing today. This is nothing that hasn't been done before, just not on this scale. They got rid of Beasley, which opened up some more cap room. Riley is probably going to work some more magic before the start of the year. The biggest fear that Wade, James, and Bosh are going to have is living up to the expectations immediately set on them now. It won't matter who makes up the rest of the roster, they need to win, quickly. Miami fans can be very fickle. With the level of talent, the average joe is expecting a title instantly. While thats a good possibility, you never know what can happen during a season. Historically, players on the Heat have been injury prone when they're needed most. If they can keep a healthy starting five, and have a mediocre bench, the sky's the limit.
  19. I've got a big fat ugly stick fly rod that I use offshore for Pelagics like dolphin, sailfish, and tuna. Good fun rod to use. Goofy amounts of backbone on it. I'm not really worried about it ever breaking. I used to use some of the larger ugly stick rods for deep dropping for large grouper and snapper. For the price and power of the rod you couldn't beat them. I personally wouldn't use one for something that required a lot of feel though. They aren't the most sensitive rods in the world. Shakespear makes a decent antenna though
  20. I absolutely love throwing them. It's a very versatile lure, which I love. Throws off lots of flash from the blade, makes lots of noise, etc etc. Works great for me in and around some of the weedbeds on my lake.
  21. That was arguably the best internet stfu moment I've seen in a while. I just went back and looked at those pics again. Those are some seriously healthy looking fish. That place looks very well managed. Hope you get to enjoy that for a long time, 32251.
  22. Oh, you can't blame them one second for being upset. That wasn't the point of my post. Everybody is clamoring for him to set an example for the children. What the hell are they doing then. Call me crazy, but it seems to me that they're kind of setting a poor example themselves. The guy went against every evil thing that pros are accused of, and chose the opportunity to win. Didn't want the huge check, didn't pick the biggest market to increase his brand, the man just wants to win. All I hear is how hard life is going to be for some of the places outside of the Quicken Arena in Cleveland. Was it that good before LeBron showed up? Thank the guy for the seven years of record earnings you had. The whole city looks like the poor kid that broke up with his dream girl in seventh grade right now. That being said, he may well have had a better chance in Chicago, but that remains to be seen.
  23. Agreed. Nothing is ever written in stone, especially in sports. Fortunately, the times that the three of them have played together, they've looked amazing. Isaiah Thomas was amazing when he was wearing that Pistons shirt. I'll never forget the special Amad Rashad did on just his injuries that he suffered. Sadly for Thomas, his career took a major dump while he was in New York. I'm sure the Heat will end up with a pretty good bench. There will probably be a bunch of players willing to make minimal cash to play for them just to have a shot at a ring. Pat Riley is simply the best person you can ask for to fill out a roster. He's done it before. I'd be willing to bet he can do it again. He's got the ultimate bargaining power now. If you come to Miami, you probably will win it all within the next year or two. Who knows whats going to happen. I do know this though; it's going to be fun as hell to watch. I'm glad I got my season tickets early this year. Thank God for the renewal package.
  24. Really, it seems like the entire city of Cleveland and every Cavaliers fan (to include the ownership group), all have no class. It's simply disgusting how quickly everybody is tossing him into the dirt. Less than 12 hours ago, everybody associated with Cleveland was swinging from his wobbly bits, now they all want to kick him there. Be happy for what the guy did for you for the time he was there. He gave a town nobody gives a crap about some hope for a little while. I'd leave Cleveland too, especially after the showing you all just gave to whatever free agents "might" have come to play there. In the words of Ron Burgundy, "You stay classy, Cleveland."
  25. Good god, thats one serious stringer. What I wouldn't give to have a crack at that lake.
