  1. Thanks for the input. I am glad it is not just me. I am fairly new again to fluorocarbon; I tried it years (vanish) ago when it first came out and gave it up as not worth the aggravation and expense. This year tried it again as part of my effort to learn the drop shot. So far I have tried Vicious and Seagar Invizx and have pretty much stuck to 6lb. For the last 7 years or so I have been using yozuri hybrid. I like the Seagar but can not afford it for every day use and the vicious has been good if I am careful to watch for loops and manually flick the bail........ except when I fish a tube that doesn't seem to matter. I usually fish an 1/8 or1/4 oz insider head (Hookerz) not dragging like on Erie but lift and fall on slack mostly. I have gone back to the yozuri on my tube rod but a question below about floro line size and tubes peaked my curiosity.
  2. Every time that I have matched spinning, floro and tubes I have ended up with a cluster. What am I doing wrong?
  3. won't be long before it is silver buddy time
  4. I have 5 okuma stratus reels from Dicks. I think I paid 30 bucks a piece for them and like them as well or more than some high dollar reels that I have used. They are paired with St. Croix legend and Kistler rods so it is not only because I am a cheap SOB. : There is no discernable difference in function between my older reels (5 years) with newer ones (last season) and I have never had any of them serviced. I would say that I use spinning rods 30% of the time over the course of the season. (40 tournament days) I hooked and landed a 14lb pike in August on 6lb florocarbon that really tested the drag making several long runs after seeing the boat. Performance over and above what you'd expect from a bottom dollar product. I have been slowly replacing all my baitcasters with curado's but with my spinning I'll stick with the stratus.
  5. I have a two day this weekend. It is supposed to be in the mid 30's Sunday morning Talk about winter fishing is depressing as I have a firm and fast rule. When the water is too hard to launch I am done until spring.......unless you southern boys want some company
  6. Do the 2009 licenses expire in October or the end of the year?
  7. close to smelt 20-35 zoom watermellon lizard, sammy, chug bug, smoke w/ silver black and gold flake tube
  8. A zoom "swimsenko" would be cool. Swimsenkos are a great trailer for spinner and chatter baits but don't need the salt nor the price tag.
  9. No, lead is only dangerous to birds with crops that use sand grit and pebbles to aid in digestion. Sometimes lead is inadvertently picked up and rattles around in their crop and ends up killing the bird.
  10. Fishing alone I became one with a 2 1/2 lb smallie via a silver buddy. One treble in the fish the other in my right forefinger. I did manage to get separated from the fish and the hook separated from the buddy but could not manage the logistics of hook removal solo...... Lidocaine and a scalpel did the trick. I nurse friend of mine now keeps both on hand for just such an emergency. The previous time it was with an excalibur treble (rattletrap) and a smallie also not conducive to the string method. I was 2 hours from home at the time and by the time I got back my finger was twice normal......not good to wait. Lidocane is a great friend!

  12. That's a good area for your rig. Greens basin is as far as you can go to your right. It is all good between your ramp and there. Look for rocks and cabbage. Sammy (perch) Bomber long A gold foil, spinnerbait golden shiner, jig black blue, senko green pumpkin, tube greens and browns. You'll have opportunities for both Largemouth and smallies in that arm. Perch and crayfish are the primary forage. Have fun
  13. In a smaller boat the Lees mill area would be the way to go. Greens basin to Moultonboro Bay. Where are you staying / launching?
  14. It is a small lake, drop the TM and fish. Throw your stuff at stuff, docks rocks weeds and wood. Perch and crayfish are food for bass in Maine and where that lake is on the coast maybe alewives. If you throw spinnerbait and a jig or senko at stuff I am pretty sure you'll catch something. I have never heard of the lake so I am sure it doesn't get a lot of pressure. Might be a place to get a real trophy. Its probably glacial so look for rocks and ledge
  15. only half dumb the other half is geen
  16. 6" or 8" zoom lizard usually watermelon
  17. Assuming that you are staying at Point Sebago and regardless in a couple of weeks the wind will probably be out of the NW This would be a good area I would fish smallies early (daybreak) around the Dingly Islands and save the largemouth for when the wind comes up. Except in the spring smally fishing is tough for most on Sebago. There is a lot of wood and flotsam on the bends on the Songo and several little backwaters. In the muddy and kettle the largies will be on docks and rocks Northern Bass Supply would carry a good map
  18. Treat the area as if it were a bed and throw something once and leave it there. If that area is home to the fish it will know every square inch and eventually it will investigate. The more wary the fish the longer it will take. If you happen to catch one of the smaller fish release it far enough away so it doesn't return for a while
  19. Throw out a jig let it fall to the bottom let it sit for 10-15 seconds snap it hard and reel it in and repeat. A fish that is nearby will see it fall and swim to the bottom and may hit it on the fall or go to it to investigate and pick it up off the bottom or be triggered as it bursts from the scum or grass. In loose grass or scum you cannot really fish it back to the boat or shore but sometimes less is more . It is frustrating cleaning the jig off on nearly every cast but that will go away when you start catching a few pigs.
  20. Rig your brush hogs and worms on a carolina rig. All you'll need is a barrel swivel
  21. california swimbabe, especially in the spring
  22. I am not ashamed to say that I have had a boat payment since 1987. Just as one gets close to being paid off I get the itch...... current payment $570.
  23. To get a DD14 to run 4 ft you must be using a 7:1 reel with 30#mono reeling above your head lightning fast. ;D no, 5-1 Curado e5 10lb on 7 1/2 medium quantum tour tip at 11 o clock
  24. check out hookerz.com They make a great hook
