  1. welcome! I only use War Eagle and Terminator spinnerbaits. both companies make quality goods, and you can tell immediately after you take it out of the package because when you spin the blade with your finger, the bearings are so good that it spins forever
  2. I can tell between a fish thump and say a log or rock. im just asking is when the line quits thumping 2 or three times is the fish gone? Can i set the hook immediately after the "thump thump" from my experience, the 3 bumps you are referring to are usually due to the fish just inspecting the bait. there have been times where after the 3 bumps, the fish will come back and actually take the bait. I would not set the hook immediately after because then you will not be giving the fish a chance to strike again.
  3. I am convinced this argument is based on personal preference, and I think you get used to what you learn on. I learned how to use a baitcasting reel on an stx, and my father learned on a citica. nowadays, he cannot use anything but a citica or a curado, and I prefer the abu garcia reels over the shimano ones, even though I swear by shimano rods. go figure
  4. I had the same questions a few months ago. I've been fishing 3 different rods around the same price range extensively: the mojo, the compre, and the carbonlite. the compre is my favorite by far, and the mojo is my least favorite by far. the mojo is tip heavy and the sensitivity is not as good as the compre's. just my 2 cents.
  5. i'm in.
  6. haha get ready for 500 different answers. there is no "best" bait. it all depends on the conditions and personal preference. to be more useful, I am a huge fan of black jitterbugs at night or when it is overcast. floating rapalas are also pretty good. for poppers, I like the ones that rebel makes.
  7. my buddy was killing them on this lure in perch color. where can you buy these though? I can only find them online in some small stores that charge a fortune for shipping. I'm looking for the regular ones, not the deep divers.
  8. I was in the same boat as you several months ago, and since then I have been able to try out several rods around the price range you are looking in. For starters, I was really unimpressed by the st. croix rods around the $100 range. I greatly preferred the Shimano Compre. When you go to BPS, you should take a look at this rod. Also, I would recommend taking a look at BPS's Carbonlite rods. Haven't had an extensive amount of use with it, but I like it so far.
  9. I stumbled on this coupon code for Gander Mountain - GME0318 It gives you $15 off of every $50 spent, so: $15 off of $50 $30 off of $100 $45 off of $150 and so on.... They have free shipping, so this is a great deal to stock up on some fishing gear. http://www.gandermountain.com/
  10. I have nanowire 2.0's and I love them. They also work well when you aren't fishing, and are very stylish. Get ready to empty your wallet though, unless you know someone who works there (my buddy got me a pair for $80).
  11. I have an STX and it is my favorite bait casting reel.
  12. where can I find the $10 off $25 coupon?
  13. just going to throw this out there, but I was really disappointed by the Mojo, considering how much hype it got. felt really unbalanced with my revo stx, and also was not nearly as sensitive as I thought it would be. I'd go with a Compre over a Mojo any day.
  14. there will be 2 of us. we have tried, and it won't be an issue putting the jon on top of the car. the only issue is that I am afraid the boat will either crush the top of my car, or fly off when my car is driving. that's why I need a good rooftop rack.
  15. Hey, I am looking to purchase a rooftop rack for my minivan so that I can load a jon boat on it. I want to fish in a state park that does not allow trailers, so this is my only option. Does anyone know of a rack that could support the weight of a 120 pound or 80 pound jon boat?
  16. are lucky craft pointers really worth the price? I have never used one, mainly because I cannot justify paying $15 for a jerkbait. I usually use X-Raps, but am not opposed to switching to lucky craft if it is worth it.
  17. definitely the 1 piece. you should never buy a 2 piece unless you absolutely have to. you want to have the best sensitivity possible, and if you are spending the most you have ever spent on a rod, you should not waste the money on a 2 piece.
  18. That's not true, they do exist. On that note, if anyone has a left-handed premier they want to sell me, please let me know.
  19. I use the 7" in black and in motor oil. I work it along the weed edges by twitching it along the bottom.
  20. Just got this email from ***: FOUR DAYS OF GREAT DEALS! THURSDAY FEB. 18th - SUNDAY FEB. 21st SHOP ALL ITEMS MONDAY FEB 22nd Thursday through Sunday Tackle Warehouse will release one reel, one rod, one line, and one bait with rock bottom sale prices. Darn. I just bought a ton of stuff from TW a few days ago. Does anyone know if they will price match if the rods and reels I bought a few days ago go on sale?
  21. what kind/size of hook do you use?
  22. Maybe the $69.95 is a online deal only, and not a in store sale? actually, its the exact opposite. It is NOT on sale online, but it is in my local store. All you do is call them and say it is on sale in the store, and they will honor the price match. Also, this week is $1 shipping so its the best time to buy it. My local store is the one in Chicago, by the way.
  23. just a heads up-you can get the Spring Classic prices now if you just call in. I just ordered a whole bunch of stuff at the Classic sale prices. Also, the Carbonlite rods are on sale for $69.95. Also, my wallet is now $69.95 dollars lighter
  24. also, I called them and *** has a lifetime over the counter replacement for the shimano rods. all you have to pay for is shipping to them. just bought two
