  1. From my experience, the high detail colors on the side and top are not a huge factor. I actually prefer that the fish CAN'T see my bait too well so that it is more likely to strike it. There have been times where fish have come up to my top water bait without striking it, then I switch to the exact same bait that is either clear or translucent and they strike it very aggressively.

Nice, I forgot that this brand existed. Thanks for the tip. What type of Chums do you use now? Also, by any chance, do you remember what types of croakies failed for you?

Hey guys, I just got a pair of oakley straight jackets and I want to get some croakies so that I don't lose them when I'm fishing. Which ones are best for fishing when it's hot and sunny out? I already have a pair of the flat neoprene ones, and I hate how it rubs against the back of my neck when I am fishing. Which ones do you use? Here is a website with all the options: http://croakies.com/sportretainers.aspx I am looking at the suiters, micro suiters, or the ARC system. Has anyone used any of these?
  4. I personally think that the cutting edge is not the reason. When you think about it, the cutting edge is designed to penetrate in one direction. Let's just say that you are setting the hook upwards into into the top of the fish's mouth. The cutting point cuts easily upwards, but is not designed to cut left or right after it has initially already punctured upwards. If you don't believe me, just touch the side of the tip and you will see that it is not sharp at all.
  5. I've decided that I want to try using duo-lock snaps on my cranks this season without split rings. For the guys who use duo-lock snaps directly to lure, what size do you use? Here are the ones I am looking at (Luhr Jensen): http://www.***.com/Luhr_Jensen_Duo-Lock_Snaps/descpage-LJDLS.html Should I get the smallest size possible? It is rated at 30lb test, and I will probably be throwing cranks on 30lb braid. I'm just afraid that if it is too small, the crank won't have enough room to wiggle and have the proper action. To put things into perspective, the 40lb test one is the exact size that Storm Wiggle Warts come with. Thanks in advance for the input.
  6. I'm looking to get some kut tail worms for both shakeyhead and drop shot. What sizes do you use for each? I'm thinking 4" for dropshot and 5" for shakeyhead? Also, what colors have worked for you guys? Thanks.
  7. I'm thinking of getting my first tube as well. When you apply it, do you need to rub it into the bait with your fingers, or do you just squeeze it on?
  8. you should also take a look at the pflueger patriarch!
  9. this is exactly what I ended up doing. They discontinued the shallow blue, so I would try to get one ASAP. also, just found out today that shallow blue is what KVD uses: http://www.oakley.com/sports/fishing/athletes/286 I wonder how many people bought them because he said that they are his favorite haha
  10. Ah, excellent. Thanks for all the input. Looks like I am going to pick up a pair of the shallow blue!
  11. Thanks for the link. I have seen this link, but the only thing it really shows is color change and glare reduction, which I would expect every lens to do already anyway. I was looking for insight from people with personal experience with these lenses. I like the shallow blue color, but I don't like how see-though they are since they have a weak mirror coating. I might have to get 2 lenses, good thing they are so easily interchangeable!
  12. I'm currently looking at the straight jackets. Why exactly is the shallow blue better than, let's say, bronze? Also, the shallow blue has been discontinued, do you have any idea why that is the case? Thanks for all the responses guys, this is really helpful.
  13. So my current situation makes it so that it would be most ideal for me to buy a pair of Oakleys. I know everyone has their favorite sunglasses brand, but my question is specific to Oakley. What is the best overall lens color if I can only get 1 pair of lenses? Other threads I have read said "copper" is a good color, but that color does not exist in Oakley. The frame I want to get only offers polarized lens in the following colors: Black Iridium, Shallow Blue, VR28 Black Iridium, and Bronze. Does anyone have any experience with any of these lenses? Which one is most similar to copper and gives the best overall look in medium to bright light? Thanks for your help.
  14. you posted the same link twice. did you mean this one? http://www.basspro.com/EZ-Lure-Retriever-Kit/product/52869/-1003647 also, how did you modify it? I just got one of these and I am thinking about doing some modifications as well.
  15. Haha I just placed and order at TW for their tax day sale and bought a few NorthStar swim jigs to try out. Got some in new gill and blue back herring, they look phenomenal. Can't wait to fish them!
  16. I was wondering what makes the flat bottom swim jig heads so good for swimming. Why shouldn't I use regular, weedless jig heads and swim those? I like to swim my jigs and let them drop, so would a weedless casting jig be better for my technique?

Damiki hydra. I like the fat ika more though...
  18. WOW. I have almost exactly the same answers. x2!
  19. So you guys definitely recommend heavier jigs? Would 1/2 oz not be heavy enough?
  20. Hey guys, I have always been afraid to pitch jigs into hydrilla, milfoil, or lily pads because the few times I tried, I would always get caught up in weeds. What's the best jig that I would be able to pitch into weeds, then hop it on the bottom with little to no problem? Also, I know that jig head weight and trailer affect rate of fall, but what jig weight do you guys use generally when pitching into weeds?
  21. right on the money. I found that PB+J is best in clear lakes, and black and blue is best in stained.
  22. I actually hate those gammy weedless hooks. The weed blocker is so flimsy, and it always gets caught in my soft plastics after I set the hook. I greatly prefer the wicked hooks, as well as the owner weedless wacky hooks.
  23. seconded. these hooks are expensive, but awesome.
  24. Toro is a lot heavier too. Almost 2 oz heavier.
