  1. this is one of the better sites around for info. plus very nice folks here. you can try a google search for info also. best thing for you to do is get out there and fish. try different setups. diff. retrieve. diff. baits, bass usally feed in the morning early, then around lunch time and then right before dark. go then. also work on your knots at home. you'll never stop learning about it. kinda like golf, lol good luck and enjoy the ride
  2. I'm originally from central jersey, where I cut my bass fishing teeth, used to hit the golf course ponds at night and clean up back in the 60s lol now im in fishing paradise in Raleigh nc. ps sure do miss my trout honey hole up in jersey. and the delaware muskies.
  3. paully you have not seen the spro power swivels #8, their rated @ 50# test are less then 1/16 wide and 1/4 in long. tiny little suckers. lol real tiny almost weightless. http://www.***.com/descpage-SPS.html an albright knot will surly work too. good luck
  4. oh and if you really like the power pro. get some spro power swivels #8 and tie some 10/12 lb mono on as leader, put about 6' on there and you'll be set.
  5. hey adam, welcome, and welcome to nc. i live in raleigh nc. been here about 14 years. we got some awesome fishing here. do you live near weldon/roanoke river? thats around the NE part of our state. theres world class shad/striper runs there every spring. plus a 14lb large mouth was caught at the rappids dam 2 years ago there. pretty fishy river. have a great day steve
  6. It can drive you nuts, each lake has a different make up. once you find a few colors that work for that lake, don't change much. 2 colors maybe all you'll need for your lake but until you find the right color it could take 10 colors before you hit what they like that day. location location location is the key. next time you see folks with fish at your lake ask em what color they used. have a great day.
  7. craws and shiners are one of the best baits for giant bass. i hook shiners thru the top and bottom lips. free swimming without weight is good this time of year for suspended fish. c-riged is also very good. fished slower then slow, stitch it. lol craws can be hooked in the beak next to the eye. or tail. i fished live bait 20plus years ago. dont mess with it anymore for bass, plastics are killer once you learn how to fish em right. and what to use when. good luck
  8. things out of the norm attract fish, is my guess, happens all the time with most fish, especially stripers.
  9. find a buddy who fishes, nothing like hands on help. and practice your knots. read all you can, then go to work on em. enjoy
  10. no they dont have much of a memory, if you get the color, size, and speed right, they will nail it. have a great day
  11. my choice http://www.highland-ohio.com/ne8v/fishermans_dream_woman.jpg
  12. suspended fish are not in a feeding mode, you need to play on their instincts. a speedy retrieve will sometimes get them to instinctively chase your offering. good luck
  13. in my case, they do wear out on me, the salt water and sand, eats em up big time. frame screws rust, spots that dont come off the lens, scratches, fish slime. you name it, mine get a beating, i spend about 30.00 for them most of the time. not enough for me to worry about it. plus its nice to get new ones every year, I have about 20 pairs here laying around. you want em? lol
  14. I go thru em big time, I do alot of saltwater and stream fishing, every oct before my week of salmon fishing I get 2 new pairs, ( this year is my 25th year) nothing like a 35lb salmon on the end of your flyrod. I would buy cheep ones if you fish alot. then you dont have to worry about them to much. see ebay. For cloudy days I only use amber, BIG HELP http://amos.indiana.edu/library/scripts/sunglasses.html sunny days I go to my dark ones, have a great day
  15. should of also left a note FISH ON BOTTOM LOL
  16. very true, thats the best way to cover an area. change your retrive from slow to fast, like a cat chasing a mouse, they may not want to eat it, they just want to get it. instinct takes over. you can catch any fish out there once you know the right presentation. have a great day
  17. sneak up to em, try a weighless dark 10" worm. make sure your setup can cast it far. hardly move it at all, just alittle twitch once in awhile. remember once you can see them, game is over, if you know about where they are dont walk right up there, think like a deer hunter. lol bow hunters make the best fisherman. good luck, ps alot of folks here wish they had your problem
  18. look for some feeder creeks also, structure and steep bottom changs are key, bass have feeding areas, find them and you will find the bite, the big boys like deep water near by for an escape route. look for bait, dont always fish from deep to shallow, try bringing you boat in very close to shore and cast out. slow your retrive way down, change color often, and dont make alot of noise. lol WISPER good luck
  19. im a wedding photographer here in raleigh nc. weekends i work, weekdays i fish and play.
  20. im in nc, and its still hot as he** in the late afternoon. i would go in the morning, set up in a nice area with some deep water near by, and wait for the bite. dont make alot of noise, fishing during that time is awesome. good luck steve
  21. thanks for the info, I have seen those but never thought they would work to good, ever get any big boys over 5lbs with them? do you fish it deep or shallow. lots of that stuff is all a sales pitch, how does the hook go in the worm if that piece of pipe is sticking in there. its funny if you look at most of the colors of lures today, they are so beautiful with nice fish profiles on them, but the old ones with just 2 stripes or a solid section of color will out produce them everytime. find the color they like and get that presention down and big mama will come out of the deep. take care and thanks again. steve
  22. sell something, get a job, do chores, let mom/pop know you are really into it and care about it, if they see its something that keeps you out of trouble, and that its realy means alot to you, i bet they will help you out, let em see you reading about it and practicing alot. it'll only help in a long run, your still a dam puppy lol you got alot of years left to fish, take it slow and learn all you can first. take care and good luck. ps whens your birthday.
  23. mmmmmmmmmmm rattle, im getting them without a rattle, but was wondering what type of rattle you would recomend. anyone else having good action on rattles in worms at night? sounds like it might work. but i like the drop a weightless worm gives. they cant resist a dead dropped worm near em. so how fast do you fish the rigged rattle worm. and whats the setup? thanks and have a great day steve
  24. just got home, caught 6, all on gulp baits, on top with no weight, 3 in close, before light, 1 was caught out in the middle, we had some shad surface near us and first cast to the breaking fish i hooked up, the other 2 were caught @ around 6:30 in around 15 foot of water near some brush, got a big cat fish too on top, on a glup. all fish went back to fight another day, you gotta use big hooks for them gulps, or you'll never get a good hook set. have a great day steve
  25. they will come back in, thats where the food is. color doesnt matter to much, as long as they see it. if your fishing near the top i would go with the dark stuff, they can see it better from below looking up. things come alive at night, you can vary your retrive, from a dead drop to a fleeing minnow. thats what makes it so rewarding you never really know. change is good, the better fisherman you are the faster you can change up. i have a petzl minners light, and a thermacell mosquito repellent. they do work, i never have to use any bag spray on me, just dont have a ton of light out there. a lantern might be an over kill. i have a little 6v lamp that puts out plenty of light. your eyes will adjust. stay safe and good luck its awesome at night. ps im heading out again tonight to falls lake here in nc. we got into em last week with dark worms fished to the bank. no weight
