The last time I fished with trot lines was 50 years ago and we used night crawlers , breem , crayfish , and creek chubs as bait. Don't remeber the exact size of the hooks but they were probably a 4/0 or 5/0 size.

Why was that fella denied? i find that hard to believe. they never asked me what was wrong with my rod. they just told me to ship it back when i get the new rod... Well believe it. He tried to use the warranty for a defective rod and they denied him and when he asked if he could then use the 50.00 expediter , they told him no since he has already filed a warranty claim.

X2 Add to that any kind of current and or obstructions in the water and there is all sorts of danger. If you are somehow injured it is much easier to find a boat and someone holding onto it (even if it is only a crawdad) than to find a person alone in a pfd. It is always better to be safe, and think carefully through any boat modifications. When I modded my Jon boat, I had to take some foam floatation out of the benches to mount the seat pedestals, I replaced that foam under the bow deck with added floatation for the weight I added with the wooden deck. It is easy to sit behind a computer and say "Go for it". But any and all modification of a boat from the manufacturers specs requires careful consideration. X3 , very bad advice.
