I received my Golden Buckeye card in the mail this week and today I turn sixty . So I am now officially an old man.

The larger the reel the farther it should cast , if you go smaller , it will not cast as far. With the set-up you have , you should have no problems with distance. The problem shouldn't be with your rod. How heavy are the baits that you are using ? You could try to go to a smaller dia. line but I really don't think that's your problem either.

Be more specific. There is no such thing as "best" , every one has their favorite line to use in differant situations.

Do you have a reason you would even consider a two piece rod ? I would build a one piece first , it's more senistive. JMHO

What line of st. croix rods were they ?

What do you mean "troublesome to work with"? It's not expensive. I usually get two or three years out of the braid I put on my reels.

If you have got to ask , you probably really shouldn't pay that much money for a reel . I use reels from 60.00 to 230.00 and enjoy using them all. Does the 230.00 reel function better ? It sure does but I still use those 60.00 reels a lot and they preform great for their price range.
