You're either a Tackle Junky...or Not.
I am not a junkie...I'm a collector of fine sporting goods. When I moved into my house, I had a room, no wait...a Man Cave devoted to my love of the outdoors, one wall devoted to fishing, another to archery, and one lined with gun cabinets. As time marched on, I acquired more "collectibles", and needed to expand. Three years ago, I finished my attic, and is now where I spend alot of nights refining my understanding of nature. My wife would frequently ask me to have a yard sale! Imagine that! My life's work being auctioned off to the lowest bidder. :'( "How many guns do you need" she would ask, "each has a purpose" I'd say, "How many fishing poles do you need?, how many arrows?" ect. ect. Now that my house looks like it was built by Cabela's, some of it has rubbed off on her, I guess I'll need to expand again for her "collectibles"...Life's looking good.

A new method
We have been overrun by feral hogs in my area, and I figured out a way to rid myself of them over the winter. I was ice fishing one day, and had to go to my truck, while I was gone, a hog ate all of my corn chum. An idea was born...I augered a new hole 10 feet from shore, placed a pile of corn in front of the hole, hid in the bushes and waited. A hog appeared, and as he was eating, I sprang from the bush, ran up behind him, and kicked him in the icehole.

Older Daiwa question.
I was doing a little dumpster diving at a yard sale today, and picked up 2 Daiwa ASA1055's for the grand total of $0.50, they ran pretty rough, I figured I could make 1 backup out of 2. I tore them down, cleaned them, and lubed them, they seem very smooth in comparision now. They are very heavy, almost no plastic, but were they a decent reel for their price range in their day?

look before you touch!
I learned a valuable lesson last night. I couldn't sleep, so I went to the lake to just do a little bank fishing, I was doing alright, nothing big, but the #'s were there. I walked out of the pole light range, and thought I hooked a nice one, got it to shore, reached down to grab him by the lip, and it felt like my knuckle was on fire. I "walked" the fish back to the lights, to find out I hooked a 13" musky! The first one I ever caught, and it was on a chatter bait. He tore my knuckle up a little bit, I guess I better watch out, he has a taste for humans now. ;D

Things that make you feel stupid
Fishing with my buddy one moonless night, we were tearin' em' up in 6' of water on plastics. My buddy leans hard to one side of the 12' boat to retrieve something, so I try to counter balance the boat by leaning the other way, when he returned to normal, we tipped that unit like a sleeping cow. When I resurface, and try to get my bearings, my buddy screams "It's got me, it's got me, oh dear god!, well, I think "I don't want it gettin' me!". We start swimming to shore, he is 30' ahead of me, pleading for his life, and I figured 2 of us vs. the swampthing is better than one. He makes it to shore, and all I hear is brush crashing, and blood curdling screams. Great, now bigfoot has entered the scene, so agaisnt my better judgement, I get out of the water, all the while he is screaming for help. I get out of the water, and the only thing I can think of is to help my friend, so I yell,"crap you're pants, it'll think you're dead!" Then all goes silent, and I think he's dead, and now the aliens are hunting me, then I hear a wimper in the brush, and I find my buddy all tangled up in crab apple trees. He says a snake got him, and it's still attached, but stopped moving, once again, against my better judgement, I feel for the snake, and I found it!, he was switching up to a husky jerk, and when the boat tipped, me managed to set the hook underneath his knee cap.

severe problem with older johnson
thanks, the first thing I changed was the plugs, I thought 1 went bad. I'll try the head gasket, if nothing else, I can get a good look to see how the internals are doing.

severe problem with older johnson
I have a 72' 6 hp johnson OB, never had an issue with it all of the years I've owned it. When it is engaged in forward or reverse, the lower cylinder fills with water, it will idle smooth all day in neutral, but I get 100 yards from the dock, and the lower cylinder dies. Could this be a simple head gasket? >

Born again?
Thanks for the replies, I'm a slow learner, but I've been tearin' em' up the last couple of days from the bank with mepps spinners, and kelly's worms. Old topo maps from before the lake was filled also helps. I sure can feel the difference though! those guys would pull you're arm off if you let them, when I think I have a small 6" smallie, it turns out to be an 18" walleye. ;D

Born again?
I grew up on LM bass, and work has forced me to move to a new area, and the lake I now work at has SM bass. I was out yesterday, and was using my LM tactics, and apparently I have become quite the walleye fisherman. :-[ Do I need to change my way of thinking to catch SM? Compared to the last lake I was at, this one is considerably deeper(157'), with very steep banks, and due to "issues", it will be 15' lower than normal for a few years, so there is very little bank cover. Can someone point me in the right direction to start? Thanks

noobie with a question

new from north central pa
Hello all, I just moved from sw pa to nc pa, and found out the main waters I'll be fishing, doesn't have LM bass, but has a healthy population of SM bass. I was searching for some new tactics, and stumbled onto this site.
