Question on very large fish
ive hooked them in the tail when ive had the most success, and the back sometimes has worked well if it doesnt kill the fish quickly. i usually just use a 4/0 wide gap worm hook. sometimes you have to be patient and wait a few seconds for them to start eating the bluegill, ive seen them pick it up and start to run as well as just hit it and start to swallow immediately. you dont have to cast out far at all, let it jerk a bit to draw the attention of bass and then let it have a bit of slack line, i like to leave my bail open after the fish jerks a bit on the line, youll know when a bass starts running with it, hold on and be ready to set the hook. sometimes you pull a skinned up descaled bluegill out of the basses mouth if youre not patient enough. but try not to let the bass swallow the hook either. the fact is its very hard for the bass to avoid trying to eat the injured bluegill so long as the bluegill isnt too big for them. the hard part is catching a small enough bluegill to use, for that i use a small abeerdeen hook and a nightcrawler. its only something i do if the bass arent hitting anything else and im just determined to catch atleast one. lots of times i can catch the bass on the abeerdeen hook and nightcrawler. the bass see the bluegill hording around the nightcrawler a gill picks it up and runs with it a bass swoops in, gill drops the crawler and the bass grabs it on the fall. i see all of this fishing clear shallow ponds...

Is the topwater bite worth chasing in a tournament?
i dont fish tournaments, but heres what i would do. it may be worth a shot but if youre not getting what youre looking for then dont spend too much time throwing topwater and do what you normally would do. or you could just leave something topwater tied on one of your setups and try it if you think conditions arise that you can throw it successfully...

First Hits on topwater frog!

First Hits on topwater frog!
no you dont Then what do you suggest? while braid might be preferred by many for frogs, you dont 'have to' or 'gotta' use it to have success with frogs is all im saying. to clarify, my comment is based on how iceintheveins worded his sentence. if he had said "when froggin braid is probably the best line to use" i probably would have not even replied. but to blatantly say or even imply you cant catch fish on a frog without braid like he did, i felt it was a fallacy or inaccuracy. plus for me if its top water frogs, i feel like hooking the fish is more about timing and focus than the line youre using. then again, maybe im more ignorant towards the subject than i think, ive had just as many good days as bad days with frogs...

Slow, but Interesting Morning
i caught a frog on a nightcrawler once playing around on the bank bored, the frog was sitting there and i just put the hook right over it and it jumped up and bit it and got hooked. at the time though all i knew was fishing with nightcrawlers pretty much. had i known then what i know now i wouldve just chucked the live frog in the pond on my hook and waited for a bass to take it...

Question on very large fish
whats the primary bait fish in that pond for the bass? is it bluegill? they may have been looking for smaller fish to round up and feed on, its much easier if they work together. if its bluegill they primarily feed on i would catch some small ones and throw them out on a big hook, the bass wont be able to ignore that bluegill once he starts jerking around on your line, you may even see bigger bass you dont know are there come out and crush that bluegill...just make sure that its legal in your state

Tx Bass Fisherman Outruns Pirates-Watch Video
even if you do have a gun with you, what good is it if they have theirs drawn on you first? you go to pull it out and end up looking like swiss cheese before you can even do anything.

Save
if youre using microsoft word it should also have an autorecover if the program should happen to crash. and you could turn on autosave as well and set it to save your work every 5 minutes or whatever

Which Frog?
I tried a Trigger X frog yesterday for the first time. two fish about 10 minutes apart and i think the second fish may have actually ate the bait. I also used a snag proof frog before, had good hits but bad hook up ratio which most likely was my fault

spawning bass
white spinner bait with a red head on it worked well for me here, even better than a senko has on bedding bass this year. but this was in ponds. a pond i fish a lot i believe the bass are coming off the beds now as i saw bunch of what i assume were baby bass swimming yesterday, mustve been 50 or more of them. as there are only bluegill and bass in the pond. dang near everyone i caught had the bloody red tails and fins. a couple weeks prior none of the ones i caught had that, and the bigger ones were biting yesterday and the day before. this is in northern virginia though, dont know about other places. but i was killing them the last two days on spinnerbaits mostly. t-rigged a trigger x frog which were on sale at walmart for $2 a pack and are not top water frogs, quickly caught two bass. the first one knocked the frog up the line, the second one, on the same frog, i saw the bass grab it when i paused and let the frog flutter to the bottom and i think he actually ate the thing because i never saw the bait come off when i set the hook or in the water right along the bank afterwards. but those are two options that could work for you

What To Throw Whewn.....
dude, why do you keep saying the open in 2 weeks when May 29 is only 5 days away? its less than a week. i would say throw any lure that doesnt involve math

Spooling new line - Saving the old
you could go all braid and tie on a leader of flouro when needed. or you could just leave some setups braid and the others with flouro. i wouldnt be going through the hassle of completely changing line every week though...

The POP-R, a classic go-to topwater. How do you retrieve it?

how to get worms for livebait
when i was a kid we would go out at night in the rain with flashlights and coffee cans, you had to be quick to grab them before they shot back in their holes. also you can try pouring bleach water on the ground to bring them up. i had an uncle who put two metal posts in the ground and hooked a car battery to them to bring worms up. theres a bunch of ways to do it. its just easier to buy them though.

Hunting
i hunt from my kitchen window most times, just wait for the deer to step into the backyard or the field beside the house, sneak out the front door with my rifle and get in position where i can see them and wait till one gives me a good shot. shot one right off the back porch a couple years ago within 3 minutes of crawling out of bed. of course i will go up in the fields and position myself along the edge of the woods and wait for them to come out as well, and occasionally ill get in a tree stand which im not fond of. there are so many deer in western Loudoun County, VA that i dont need to use feeders or throw out apples or corn or anything

hooked em, cant catch em
nose firmly in the air over here. haha, i dont mean it in a bad way either just to clarify, just didnt have a better word to use. some people like what they view as the best when it comes to things they love, such as fishing, and theres nothing wrong with that(also some people just have deeper pockets). but i dont particularly like it when people imply or act like you cant catch nice fish on anything less than [exaggeration]a $400 baitcaster on a $260 rod and a $47 lure on braid with a flourocarbon leader in a $85,000 dollar boat that you tow with a $65,000 truck with tires that cost $410 a piece that must be parked in the garage of a $850,000 house[/exaggeration]

Guess it's better than more payments...
my 91 chevy 1500w/t needs some work too, but i got tired of putting money into it. recently did the coil, back brakes and wheel cylinders, water pump, fuel pump, and fuel filter in march. then had to replace a tire, riding through a field to a pond and ran over a deer antler that popped a tire. went to get an inspection and the guy failed me for idler arm and some other front end stuff. the brake light occasionally comes on the dash and he failed that, cracked side mirrors failed which he passed the past 3 years. plus its getting tough to shift and i know the slave cylinder for the clutch is going bad AGAIN. oh and it failed an emissions test, i got busted on the road driving by a van that checks emissions on an exit ramp and takes your picture back in like january. at the time i had thrown my back out and could barely walk plus got snowed in for a week or so, missed the 30 day deadline for an emissions test and had to pay an almost $400 fine and still had to get the test. i finally bit the bullet and bought me a brand new car. gonna miss that truck though for practical purposes, not for my everyday driving though
